Washington Post By Carrie Johnson Tuesday, March 30, 2010 Authorities unsealed charges Monday against nine members of an armed militia group, accusing them of seditious conspiracy and attempting to deploy weapons of mass destruction, in a case that highlights a strain of extremism focused against the federal government. The Michigan-based group, known as the Hutaree, allegedly had plotted to attack a law enforcement officer and then detonate improvised explosive devices to kill more officials gathered for the first officer's funeral procession. Members of the homegrown Christian militia accumulated weapons and explosives to target employees of the federal government, the law enforcement "brotherhood" and other participants in what they called the "New World Order," the indictment says. Call them by their proper name. This isn't a milita, the milita is a lawful part of the national defense. Nine members of a terrorist group were charged in a plot against the U.S. Nine alleged traitors were charged in a plot against the U.S.

I agree. The last thing we want is for disgusting people like this to mar the reputation of the many good and law abiding militia in this country.

Metallion, you and I susaly dont agree on much, but it looks like we do agree here. Thank you for pointing out that this is NOT a legitimate militia. The Southeast michigin and michigin state volunteer militias have both loudly condemned this group and refused a call for assistence from them. A legitimate milita would not advocate a rebellion against a legitimate government and is strictly a defense force, as you stated, a lawful part of state and anationaldefense.

The more I learn about this story the more pissed off I get. I have to wonder, how bad would these guys have been had it not been for the undercover FBI agent placed in there by the feds? For christ sakes, the agent was showing them how to make pipe bombsamong other things. He was training these people. Why is this man not also now sitting in a cell himself? This wasn't an undercover agent...he was a provacateur.

I haven't read about all that, but if true, they could have a solid defense of entrapment. Remember, prosecutorial misconduct is why Bill Ayers is a professor now and not rotting in a cell like he deserves.

I doubt anything will come of it. they will be prosecuted and convicted and the provacateur will go under cover elsewhere again somewhere and keep his jobas usual. Granted, these guys were still nuts.

I hope nobody thinks this is conducive with Christian beliefs or militias. This is a small group that are clearly nuts. They will have to face their consequences.

I remember reading an earlier thread by X on here about them and their attempt to enroll the Muslim guy. At the time I thought they were nothing if not dumb. When I saw their mug shots on MSN, I thought they looked nothing if not dumb. I know mug shots don't flatter anybody but these guys really did look mentally impaired.

Well, I've always heard that you should never judge a book by its cover... ...but after seeing these schmucks, I believe they're the exception to the rule! Around here, we call that low breeding.

I was on this story long before the main stream media was actually. I was online the other day and found a post in another forum as the raids were taking place. The group is a not, repeat, not a legitimate militia. In fact, they were shunned stiffly by both the Michigan and southeast Michigan volunteer militias. Both these groups also refrused a request for assistence when the raids began. I was lucky enough to catch a specialized radio show after all this came about. they had a few members of the SE michigan milita on. It seems one of the hutaree group had also called on the legitimate Michigan militia some time before the raid to discuss plans they had to carry out attacks on Muslum Americans. Unfortunatly for the Hutaree group, the milita leader they called to discuss this plan with...was a practicing muslum himself.....oops. A legitimate militia would never advocate an over throw of a legitimate government, racial violence or violence against civilians or law enforcement. People and the media toss the term militia around very casualy and rarely distingush between a legitimate constitutional militia and domestic terrorist. The two are mutualy exclusive and diametricly oposed.

"What, Sir, is the use of a militia? It is to prevent the establishment of a standing army, the bane of liberty. ...Whenever Governments mean to invade the rights and liberties of the people, they always attempt to destroy the militia, in order to raise an army upon their ruins." ~Elbridge Gerry "The purpose of the 2nd Amendment is to guarantee the existence of state military forces that can serve as a counterweight to a standing federal army. Thus, it seems fair to say, the scope of any rights enjoyed by the states under the 2nd Amendment would be determined by the goal of preserving an independent military force not under direct federal control." ~Dennis Hennigan "By calling attention to a well-regulated militia for the security of the Nation, and the right of each citizen to keep and bear arms, our founding fathers recognized the essentially civilian nature of our economy. Although it is extremely unlikely that the fear of governmental tyranny, which gave rise to the 2nd amendment, will ever be a major danger to our Nation, the amendment still remains an important declaration of our basic military-civilian relationship, in which every citizen must be ready to participate in the defense of his country. For that reason I believe the 2nd Amendment will always be important." ~John F. Kennedy

I agree with The Metallion...these were American terrorists and traitors, regardless of what they choose to call themselves. When I learned the details of their plot I was shocked and disgusted. This particular strain of extremism was not focused only on the federal government but on members of their own community and I'm glad they're behind bars where they belong.
