Reading as a regular habit is an effective tonic for human mind. Child or young or old, every person must cultivate this habit for healthy mind as well as understanding! As a habit, one to two hours daily reading as per convenience of time is well and good with books of one's area of interest! Please add your views!!

Hi Mitraa, You are right and I also want to add that the effect on mood remains in place as long as the workout continues in your park or green space of choice, but is most pronounced immediately, and bolsters well-being and self-esteem significantly after just five minutes of activity. Furthermore, the mental health boost provided by combining exercise with nature is even more dramatic if the setting includes a water feature such as a pond or stream. Only five minutes of exercise in a green setting is enough to bring about a significantly improved mood. Thanks.

I agree that the mind has a need to keep active and that is one of the reasons I do MyLot every day! I love to read, I don’t get as much time to do so as I would like but I try. My daughter is encouraged to read by her teacher who gives her new books all the time. I push her to stop what she is doing and read for a while whenever she is home because I find reading a good book the most pleasurable escape. Reading is learning and of course it exercises the mind which is as important as exercising the body

In my college days, my classmates used to tease the more reading ones... "Jeevan Padhne Kaa Naam, Padhte Raho Subah Saam!" Means "Life is the name of reading, Keep on reading morning and evening!" But now after about thirty years of those college days, I feel that in our lives, we not only read the pages of books, we read many things beyond the printed pages of books everyday, everynght, everymorning and everyevening!! Thanks Zandi for your active response and have always nice and active reading!!

Hi Mitraa, I just back after attending the parent’s orientation program in my son’s school (my son is IV standard) and the teacher lectured more than half an hour on how to nurture the reading habits in kids. As a parent, how can we develop a good reading habit in children? She spoke much about the benefits of reading if it starts in an early age and by helping the kids for reading, parents can also get benefits. Reading is playing an important role and without reading we can’t reach anywhere or we can’t achieve any goal in our life. We will get the knowledge from reading only so nurture it and share the knowledge to others.

Besides increasing ones knowledge through reading, it's also a form of entertainment. As children, my siblings and I were read to by our mother. She gave us an interest in reading that has lasted through the years.

Reading is very good for the mind. It's pretty common knowledge that kids who are avid readers make better grades in school, but I think the habit of reading should carry well into adulthood. Preferably until you go blind. Then you should listen to audiobooks. Reading is a fantastic storehouse of knowledge and I think it's a shame that so many people abandon the habit or just don't don't get into it to begin with.

I love to read. I keep a book in my car and take it to breakfast at a local coffee shop almost daily, I read with a cup of coffee, eat breakfast and read another cups worth. Then I read the news online and other interesting things for an hour or so. I keep magazines in the bathroom and will pause long enough to read an article at least 2 times a day.(gives me a few moments of peace)..lol And then there is mylot reading..jeez I guess I read alot...lol
