Why Is The Senior Prom So Important?

Did you go to your Senior prom? Did you enjoy it? Did you have a date? Where was it held? What was the theme and was it important that you went? I'm not sure if schools outside the US put such an emphasis on that Senior year, but this is getting a little ridiculous. We just shelled out two hundred and five US dollars for two tickets to the senior prom--no tuxedos yet, new shoes, shirt, and limo. Shine the limo! And graduation is coming, oh no! How much were your prom tickets and was the prom important to you?

I did not go to my Senior Prom, but I did go to Post Prom with a guy friend of mine. I have never been a girly girl and I did not want to waste all that money on a dress and everything else. I don't think I really missed anything.

gtargirl, From where I come from, we do not call them proms but graduation party with various themes which usually will be formal dressing. To me, these parties are really necessary and I have never failed to attend one. It is really enjoyable and it is like a time to move together onto another phase of our lives. As for the expense, I've never had to pay an arm or a leg for it and I have to say that yours' is quite exorbitant. Whoever is the organizer really deserves to be shot for this rather expensive prom and I am concern what the future of your country will be like when these "promising" generation take over the reigns. I just cannot imagine.

I enjoyed senior prom its because its our last days in the school. Aside from celebrating it. We're giving the juniors our role as seniors in school. Having a date is usual for a prom. Its where you are proud of your partner. Introducing them to your friends as well.

Promenades here in the Philippines are held for the Juniors and Seniors. I can't really remember how much are the prom tickets but I think it ranges from 35 - 40 converted US dollars. It was kind of important for us because we treat it as a social event that will be kept forever. And besides, we want to see how everyone is going too look:)

I did not go to my high school prom, but I did go to my boy friend's prom. It was Junior/Senior prom. Around here, the Junior class raises the funds and hosts the prom for the Senior class. I do not remember how much the tickets were. if I had not been going with Larry I would not have gone to prom. It was a nice dinner, held at a nearby college. Not overboard on stuff, though. No limo. My son did not go to prom at all. My daughter went one time, with girlfriends and was fine with that. It is only about $10 for tickets, I think. She was outraged at the amount of time and money spent on decorations, etc. and felt that money could have been spent on a charity for much better purpose.

I don't remember how much my prom tickets were, but we did have fundraisers all though High School to keep the costs down. We didn't do a limo and I bought a new dress - but not a GOWN. My "date" was a good friend who also didn't have a date. The only reason we went was curiosity about what the big deal was. We had a good time and all though. I think it's really gotten out of hand, I've even seen red carpets at some schools!

I quit school in my junior year so I didn't go to my prom. I think it is a culmonation of all the excitement and a social get together and reason to dress up and get together. And a way to celebrate their graduation too. People are social animals and so this is a great get together for them.

Well my senior prom was 36 years ago and no I did not attend. I never thought it was that important. I guess some girls think its important if their mom's make it a big deal. Many of my close friends decided not to go because we didn't have dates. I graduated with a class that many of my classmates were snobby and I didn't associate with them very well. I never liked kids who thought they were better then everyone else. They just rubbed me the wrong way. This is another reason I have never went to a class reunion either. All I remember doing in my senior year was going on the senior trip to a pondarosa ranch which was alot of fun. Also we had a senior lunch and a few of the male classmates streaked across the room. That was when streaking was popular.

It is really hard for me to admit this buy my senior prom was 12 years ago (it seems like so much longer because of all the changes that I've gone through in my life since then). I did go with a group of friends, but I didn't have a date. The prom was held in the gymnasium of my school and the tickets were 20 dollars for individuals and 35 dollars for a couple. The theme of my senior prom was Masquerade Ball and yes, I did have a pretty good time. I think that the reason that senior prom is so very important to high school students is because it is really the last school hosted party that they will have the opportunity to attend during their years of school.

It's not that important to me. I was planning not to attend it. I only attended it cuz my crush did. She was the most gorgeous girl in there. She blew me away. I had a dance with her. Even if It's only for a few minutes, it was the best night in senior year for me.

It was not really a big deal for me. I just had fun with my friends. I had no date. I wore the simplest dress with very light make up. Everyone was so dressed up. It was not that fun because it was held in the school grounds and the nuns were all over the place ( I went to a Catholic school) so we were too conscious with out actions.

In the Philippines, the famous thing is the JS Prom (Junior-Senior Prom). It's not that a big deal like in your place. We really don't have dates or any theme. We just go there and enjoy that night. There would also be the prom queen and king. Usually we do it in a resort. We just get a bit excited about this because usually, it is the only time where people really look their best. The prom was not that important for me. I liked it. It was memorable. But it was just like those late night-outs that I had with my friends. The only difference is that we looked better in the prom. (And oh! In my prom, there was this guy who just wore blue jeans, shirt and an open polo. HAHA. I know that guy and he was funny!) --Particularly in that night. gstargirl... No offense but here in our country, due to the movies that we have seen, there is this impression that in other countries especially in the US, when you say PROM NIGHT, it's like "getting laid"... Is that true? Here? It's not. The prom would come and you'll find that most people are not even involved in a relationship.=)
