Despite that the conservative party seems to have the majority of voters, they are 16,000 short of governing by themselves. Talks with the Lib Dem party are being held. What will happen now? Do you think that the conservative party will be able to make a coalition with this party? Which party do you think has the best policies to govern United Kingdom? Do you think that the ex Prime Minister Gordon Brown was treated fairly by the media?

Hi Ronald, I hate answering discussions like this, but one thing is for certain people want Gordon Brown out..personally I think there could be a coalition government or def the Conservatives will take over but with a lot of deals from the Liberal Democrats. Also whomever takes over I cannot see there bieng much of a change really as we all have to carry on with our own lives whatever the outcome..LoLo

HI Little owl? Why do you hate responding to discussions like this? I was surpsied by the poor turnout for this discussion. It seems that the Brits don't like to discuss politics :) Something which is contrary to my island where politics is the bread and butter of daily activity of the islanders :)

I put up this discussion because I was interested to learn what is going on in UK right now. What are the policies of the parties involved... etc... I do agree with your final statement. Thanks for participating in this discussion.

Hi Ronald, The past few days have been nothing but about politics and discussions on what is happening. Today (11th May) Gordon Brown has resigned as Prime Minister, the government is now going to be a coalition government between the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats. It looks like now we will have David Cameron as our Prime Minister but at the moment the policies of our coalition government are not exactly know by anyone, it has been a lot of hassle for everyone here but we will now have to wait and see what the new goverment have instore for the country. The whole thing is very complicated and no-one really knows anything for certain what is going to happen. Am sorry for not answering you sooner....LoLo

Hi ronald, Personally I feel that the party with the most elected members, in this case the Conservative party, should be given the first opportunity to form the government. If they fail to put together some kind of compromise with the third party, than Gordon Brown's Labour party should be asked to try to govern with the help of the Liberal Democrats. I'm afraid I didn't follow the campaign well enough to comment on the media's treatment of Prime Minister Brown. Blessings.

Neither did I. I heard a comment on a local radio that Brown was not treated fairly and his gaffe's were exposed by all media. Hopefully your country has a good government whether its the conservative or labour party who are in power.

Morning, ronaldinu...Political discussions are not my "forte", and especially when I have so little knowledge of the economics of the participating country! Even tho' I live in Canada, and we are still a part of the Commonwealth, little what happens in GB affects us here! I do know that in our last election here, our slightly leading party perogued, a coalition was threatened, and the 4 parties were so far afield of each other, and cohesive coalition was NOT an option...as there would not have been a single bill, referendum with concurrence! I think the politics of GB have a greater effect on the UN, than North America...so I guess you could paint me with "a head in the sand" interest in the outcome! Take care and Cheers!

Hi pergammano, I have posted this discussion to learn from other UK mylotters how the political situation is affecting them. I would have liked to read their personal opinions and not what is already written on the newspapers. But it seems that most of us here avoid religious and political discussions as if they were scabies. I don't blame users who have this opinion since it is not the first time that someone jumps on you when you have a different opinion from his. Thanks for sharing about the political situation in Canada.

HI pergammano. I do treasure your feedback. LOL What are you sorry for? I am really preocupied with what is going on in Greece. The financial situation in Spain Italy and Portugal does not look bright either. Malta has to fork out a 27 million if I am not wrong in figures here to help Greece. The minister said it would not be a burden on the Maltese people but I dont believe it at all. Malta government lending to Greece as part of eurozone assistance to that beleaguered country will not mean new financial burdens on the country and will not affect the government's financial markets, Finance Minister Tonio Fenech has said. Mr Fenech said that while the financial aid package to Greece was still being negotiated, should Greece call up all €30 billion offered to it by the eurozone countries, Malta's contribution would be of some €27 million. http://www.timesofmalta.com/articles/view/20100429/local/fond-ta-self-ghall-grecja

Sorry, I treaded in waters where I wasn't wanted! Possibly this discussion has been overshadowed by what's happening with the EU and Greece! A situation that is serious enough to have a severe "trickle down" effect, globally....even more so, than the status of the politics in Great Britain! Even tho' a "bailout" of sorts has been presented...I heard this morning that there is a lot of glitches to be hammered out! So, globally, I think this situation is taking precedence! Take care and Cheers!

Hi ronaldinu, I think it will be a coalition goverment between Conservative and Lib-Dem, but the voting system was a shamble, you would think this was athird world country or something the way was dealt with, long ques and hundreds not able to vote so this is not a true results of the out come, I think the three parties should get together and sort the mess out of the way this country is at the moment instead of argueing between them like spoilt boys, we shall see. Hi tamarafireheart. It was a surprise that there were long queues and a percentage of voters had to be turned down. I read somewhere that a fourteen year old student even boasted that he voted in these elections. I do agree with you that hopefully all the parties involved reach to a conclusion which is beneficial for your country.

I agree with you that they should just all work together to sort it out Tamara. The electoral system itself is not true democracy IMHO and the fiasco of this last election....pffffft......I think there will be a second General Election within the next 12 months.

Hi ronaldinu, at the moment they are in talks about meetings about meetings and God knows when it will end, as for the fourteen year old boasting about him voting is impossible, he is too young to vote and can't vote without a voting card and he won't have been able to vote. Tamara
