scared the crap out of me...

king snake - king snake at Lake Natomas

I was walking on the other side of the lake for the first time and suddenly I looked down at the bike trail and there was a snake. I jumped about 10 feet. But then I realized it was just a king snake, took a deep breath and took a picture. He seemed in a big, fat hurry to get away from me. At least it wasn't a rattler, not that I would have gotten close enough for it to be dangerous. Anyway, that's Dawn's nature surprise for the day. Did anything surprising happen to you today?

Only surprising thing that happened today is I was so busy building a video, I forgot to take my afternoon nap. So, I'll do it now. Sounds better than walking around the loop I live on. And I would run in to a rattler...

I should have done that before going to check my garden. The ground squirrels already ate all my cabbage, green tomatoes and now they got the four strawberries I was going to get before the ground squirrels got to them. Apparently, they had the same idea. Now I'll take a nap...

I went to dump some recycling in the dumper and a big old gecko came running out. Now, our geckos are kind of pinkie-gray, so it really stood out on the blue plastic.

Ah, well I don't dislike them particularly, but I'm pretty sure most people would choose geckos.

hi dawnald I had a lovely morning shopping at WalMart and talking with myfellow residents but when I got back and just carrying these two sacks, one a bit heavy, I was huffing and puffing like a little toy train. The walk down the second floor hall seemed miles and my heart was pounding and i did not think i was ever going to get to my room. Then this began to panic me so i started breathing too hard, and suddenly I felt like I could not catch my breath. but by the time I had sat down for a short time and rested I was breathing normally. but it actually scared me. Yet each time I see my doctor he checks my heart and says you are fine. So if its not my heart , its my overweight pulling down on me and making it hard to just walk a ways. I was really scared for awhile I was going to have a heart attack. I have never had one and hopefully will not have one.so it was really just a case of not breathing deeply enough.

Hm, do we have to assign you some breathing exercises? Well anyway, I'm glad it's not your heart. You take care.

How old did you say you were? A friend just had a heart attack a month ago and he is rather young(55). He was constantly on the go and hyper all the time. The point is find time to just relax! Take care.

I am glad that you are okay. I know when I saw a snake at the park last year, I was very scared. It might could have been a garden snake. I don't like snakes. I hope that it was harmless and not poisonous. I am glad that you are okay though.

The same thing happened to my oldest son yesterday.. though it wasn't a king snake or anything.. just a tiny garden snake.. looked more like a long worm.. but it slithered right under his feet and he totally freaked out! So funny.

a nature surprise? hmm..not really unless you count the ant. i had to shift some garden rock because the raspberry patch has grown in size..anyway,there appearently was an ant colony hiding under one,and this lil tiny ant bit me.left a raised lump,i was surprised (and pissed). wasn't even a fire ant.i wasn't expecting the lump.

At my old house, we put stepping stones out, and one day I moved one. Turns out that ant colonies love living under stepping stones.

Hi Dawn, That is really surprisingly scary. Good that it's not the killer snake or else i can't imagine how you will get all the powers to run away. As for me, it's a surprise email that i received for a long waited development about my employment abroad. a great one to keep me inspired today.

I wasn't close enough for a rattler to be dangerous. And we don't have any really fast, aggressive poisonous snakes here either. So are you going somewhere?

Oh my, well it was nice of him to let you take his picture - hee hee! The other day I was talking to a mom from Taiwan who says eating snake clears a lot of skin ailments, but you can't go hunting for snakes in the US to eat - so she and her sister were bummed. I don't know if I'd wanna eat snake . . . But as far as today's surprise . . . I got a statement from a health insurance company I've never heard of . . . we got billed for some equipment we've never gotten or used on my son - where'd that come from? Now I gotta make some calls . . .

I hear it tastes like chicken. But then everything supposedly tastes like chicken... Huh, it's tough enough straightening out bills that are legitimate sometimes. I hope you get them to fix it easily.

That's what she said - tastes like chicken (but more tender??)! I got the run around for a half hour on the phone yesterday - I was getting really angry. In the end, apparently the equipment department at the hospital didn't have an order in their system for what we were billed for - so something is weird. They're going to investigate it and get back to me. THEY better get this fixed because I'm not paying that bill!!!!!

I have to say a BIG no to that question. By way of background, I have always worked in my life time and I watched my father retire from two careers, military and then admin. mgr. for a civilian firm for another 15 or 20 years. Well I had made up my mind that when I reached retirement age I will retire! I am in the age group that will still get social security. It is questionable about future generations, but that's another story. Anyway I promised myself if possible I would do just that,"RETIRE" and I was lucky enough to be in that situation and living in Thailand. OOps, I strayed from the subject a bit. SORRY. The point I make is I really don't want anything coming my way unless it's more $$$$$'s. What about the rest of you Myloters? Anything exciting?

Realised the other day that I don't see my camera anywhere. It's always close by and I'm dammed if I know what has happened to it. I'm thinking it may have inadvertently fallen into my rubbish bin which is handy and been thrown out...and of course, I have missed dozens of photo opportunities in the last few days since I noticed it missing.

Holy canolies! Are you sure that thing isn't poisonous LOL! All we have around here are some little black and white gardener snakes and they don't get very big at all. Though I've heard int he past year or so that some rattlers have made there way into western WA. They've been spotted in some unlikely places. I'm not afraid of the little gardener snakes, my brother and I used to catch bucket loads of them as kids and we'd take them out into the field and let them go just for something to do LOL. Anything else though I get a bit nervous. My hubby on the other hand ROFL oh he's a site. He spots a snake even the tiniest one and jumps about 10 feet backward and gets this look on his face LMBO!!! Oh lord too funny. Nothing to exciting happened for me lately but I'll be sure and let you know if something does.

King snakes are not poisonous, but they do kill rattlesnakes, so I really wouldn't want to mess with it. Anyway, if it bit me, I could probably get a nasty infection!
