You are moving in the hot weather, you feel thirsty, well if you are here in my city, you can go to the nearest stall, buy a cold drink, a bottle of chilled beer or just plain chilled mineral water. You can also buy a glass of sugarcane juice, extracted from sugar cane right before your eyes; you can also go for a glass of ‘lassi’ made from thick curd and lot of sugar, topped with a thick layer of cream and grated coconut. But there is another option, where you get cold water free from earthen pitches, as much as you can drink and take some if you have bottles. . These are managed by Municipality and some by local persons. We believe distributing water in hot weathers is good, you get blessing of persons and God. So friends, where you will prefer to go, to quench your thirst? Do you have such places, where you get cool water for free? We call them, ‘JALCHHATRA’; Jal means water Please share. Professor

hi professor that's just wonderful and so needed in a tropical area like the Philippines or India. Here in the U S we do not have any place where you can get cool water for free, maybe because only states that have warmer climates would need extra cool water. these days we seldom see anything here free any more. the economy is so bad there are many people still out of work.

You can get free water if you knock someone's door here in the Philippines. Anything has a price and you can't get free water in public places like Malls, restaurants or any establishments.

Sweetie, we don't buy water here. We use it at home and everywhere we are. It is always very cold and sweet to drink. But, i won't freaking pay for it. TATA.

Hi saphrina: In my country, we can use water at home to drink but in my case we have to warm the water before using it to drink because it's not totally clean . I only drink water from my house if I don't have another better option. Thanks for your answer. Have a nice day. ALVARO

Yes, giving free water is such a holy thing to do. Not only religiously and spiritually but also humanely. Our area Jain Samaj ensures that no one goes thirsty by providing plenty of Free Water by keeping water jugs outside temples and also in crowded areas like the Railway Stations, Bus stands, etc.

We don't have a need for water around here where you find places that will give you free water like that. It seems to be the trend that you are forced to buy bottled water when you are thirsty. I'm not exactly a huge fan of this trend, so when I am going out I will typically take a bottle of water with me from my home. This is the best option for me, I will drink something else when I am eating a meal I will purchase a soft drink, but between I prefer to drink water.

There's always free water in the food court inside the mall but that's in the city. In rural areas, you can drink water by asking people for a drink and that's okay. In general, here in my country, people will accommodate you for free water. But of course, if you're asking for free, then you shouldn't be choosy.

Hmmm.. In our area, you could easily buy mineral water anywhere because you could see a lot of small stores around. In the office or at work, there are cold drinking water fountains around as well. I think it's good that people or authorities have done such things to help its citizens quench thirst and avoid dehydration. Further, I know that there are places in other countries which also give free heating in times of winter.

hello prof, I lived in a city, where everything is for sale. Yah,if i am walking in the middle of scorching sun,and i am so thirsty..the only option i can to quench my thirst is,buy bottled or soda drink. Maybe,i can free water if i will drop at a friends house. Or,go inside a food chain, where free water is given to costumers, and even with passerby. I like the lassi, i had tasted it here from an Indian restaurant.

Hi Professor: In my town people usually says that you won't deny a glass of water to a person that feels thirsty. This is part of the Bible actually. Unfortunetly that was only an habitude and there's no specific place to get free water. When I'm working I usually buy a bottle of ice tea, specially lemon ice tea. It's fantastic and that's the best way for me to pass my day when the weather is warm- and that's the usual weather in giron. Thanks for starting this discussion. Have a nice day. ALVARO

This is a very good practice in our country during summer. Great human service to the thirsty peoples. I have seen free water stations in the railway station and other places in the city where everyone can get cold water for free. This is really a holy and noble work.

Free water is available in different parts of India. Government have taken measures to keep water cans in all public places. Thats a great thing to be admired. Iam living in UAE. Here I dont find a system like that even though its a very hot country.

If you're in school or at work, you probably have freewater, but if you're out in the streets, you have to buy your own bottled water. It's good that you have JALCHHATRA there. Hope we have one of those too. What we have in a few establishments ATMs w/c stand for Automatic Tubig Machine. Tubig means water in our language. What you do is you put a cup or bottle in the niche and align it with the spout. You can then put in coins and the machine will dispense water. :) It's a very cheap alternative for commercial bottled water

I am aware of this machine friend, here water costs less than in a bottle. Why not try to set a Jalchhatra next year with help of friends? It will be so nice,,, Thanks Welcome always. Cheers. Professor

The water on the earth became less and less, I think, the water on the earth will disappear sooner or later, we should cherish water resources on the earth, and now we can tap water from the home in, also can buy water from the store.

Hi Professor! We can get water for free only from the tap in our home sinks. Most people when they are out and want cold water have to buy it. And any other type of drink that you want like soda or juices are also things that are sold. When I am out and thirsty I either buy diet soda or fruit punch. We don't get too many things free here!

where I live, its not that hot so we dont have as desperate a need for 'free water' when we are out and about. Having said that, there are often drinking water fonts around in the major shopping areas, and because most people have enough money, if you are thirsty when out and about you'd just to to a shop and buy a bottle of water anyway.

dear professor, ours is a very hot weather now. especially during midday. the sun rays usually are like pricking the skin when it touches you. we prefer to be indoors and with a bottle of water ready to quench the thirst. some like to take a bath several times in the day just to feel a little fresher. but there are many establishments all over who will give you free water. i have seen in your tag to this discussion the word tubig. does it mean water? because it is how we call water in our dialect. have a nice day. ann
