Holy smokes. Oh gawd, I love the sunshine and rain and warm temperatures when it comes to my gardening. This is a photo of the start of my strawberry picking in my backyard this afternoon. I got almost 2 bowls filled today. I'll be trying my jam cooking tonight or tomorrow morning for sure. Thease things are growing so greatly this year.I got a huge plastic grape container fukll today. I think the container held 5 pounds of grapes. I'll post of photo of them storted in that container in a comment later. For now, do you love the rain and sunshine and heat at all? Do you love strawberries fresh from the vines? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

As a kid I used to go strawberry picking with the family. The taste can't be compared to those one purchase sin a store. How large is your area dedicated to strawberry growing? The sun will for sure be out and about, lets hope some rain comes your way o as its a blessing. Happy MyLotting

freshly picked - Todays pickings so far. June, 9th, 2010.
I have roughly 100 plants total in the area. It is roughly about 50 feet by 10 feet I'd guess. Not sure but theres a lot of plants etc. So many that I rarely weed the area as they kill off the weeds for the most part. Here's a shot of them in the container after washing them. Still have to destem them though.. [b]HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~[/b

They look really good! I guess if you ever wanted some extra money you could open your own strawberry farm haha. Good luck with it! Do you grow anything else?

oh yes indeed those weresomeof the happiest days of my life on the farm with warm sun and fresh berries to pick. my mom made the best strawberry shortcakes with baking powder biscuits that were slightly sweetened and real whipped cream ontop the berries. lol I tried to make some baking powder biscuits before we were evicted and they were awful.I still do not know what I did wrong;I used to make delicious ones all flaky and so good now bah humbug.now I can do no cooking that really bothers me so much.strawberries fresh from the vine still warm from the sun are the best for sure. we do get some humongous ones here In Ca from Irvine farms that are fresh picked but are not as sweet as the smaller ones. they are good but not excellent.I miss not having a garden, I really do. maybe one of these days.

My dads sister had a large plot of land near his farm when I was a kid. We used to go into the woods picking wild blueberries. One of my favorite childhood memories were of that. Until my younger brother and I ran into a mother black bear and her cub one day. We ran like heck too. HAHAHA! HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Forget the store...I am going strawberry picking in Minnesota! I love strawberries, but I couldn't tell you when I last had them straight off the vine. Not such a fan of the rain and the heat.

I have septic so no I don't like all the rain. If it was just one day every couple days of sunshine then sure. Congrats on such a good yeild! What variety do you use? I tried some from the kids school fund raiser and I didn't have any luck with them. But they are the mail order variety in appearance so I wasn't hoping for too much. Like I said my kids will be happy to take those strawberries off your hands!

Absolutely love fresh strawberries picked from the vine. I remember when I was much younger. I was staying with some friends at Tamborine Mountain. Her grandmother was away for holidays and our job was to pick strawberries from her garden everyday. While picking strawberries we could not stop eating it from time to time. We could have easily filled a basketful of strawberries that day if we did not ate half of it.

I love strawberries fresh from the vine. But the weather's been unsettled, nice one day, yucky the next. Today it's cool and rainy.

Yummy. When we were down in LA we would go berry picking (in Oxnard) and to the strawberry festival and so on. Up here, the berries aren't quite the same...

Hey Grandpa Bob! Those are so beautiful strawberries! And of course they are one of my favorite fruits! They are so expensive here and they come into the grocery store looking wilted and smashed up! They don't look anything likes yours do straight off the vine! Makes my mouth water just looking at them! I want to reach right into the picture and take me a nice big handful!

I know it's been a great year! We where able to start picking early and I have already made jam, jelly and balsamic strawberry jelly. As well as having canned up and frozen about 20 lbs.! We went to a local farm and have already picked about 40 lb.s of berries. Love this time of year when it comes to fruit.
