My other favorite place to walk at lunch

This is the American river. It eventually flows into the Sacramento river. The Sacramento river eventually empties into Suisun bay, the northern part of San Francisco bay. This water I was looking at yesterday will eventually end up in the Pacific ocean. Maybe it's already there, I don't know. I am lucky that I have a lake and a river that I can walk to on my work lunches. It almost makes being up here worth it. I say almost because all my work buddies are in the Los Angeles area and I am pretty isolated here. Isolation does have its advantages though. I can concentrate on my work and not have to deal with as much of the petty office political stuff that goes on. But I miss a lot of the fun too. But how many of my office mates can actually say that they've seen a loon on their lunch hour? Other than each other, of course.

Thank goodness i have never been described as a freaking loon at work. Or wait, damn, now i can give them a lot of grief, they actually did call me that. Nice to know you have a river, that flows to where you have just told us, i think. Okay, need to sort this out. Bye.

We have two rivers and a waterfall on the farm. The water is icy. when I was stressed I would walk there alone and just sit there looking at the water. Water does something to soothe me. We are having torrential rain at the present and I love the way it sounds on the roof of my office. I work alone and this is fine by me. I faced too much pressure in the classroom where I taught for 10 years before resigning. I'm okay with being alone but there is interaction wth security and ground staff etc. I've never seen a loon

We have a limited State of Emergency that has been extended in our Capitol city for another month and it now includes another area. The rules are more than draconian as we could be arrested and held for 60 days without even seeing a lawyer. Yes it is calmer but we are hoping that 'Dudus' will sing like a canary and name all the corrupt politicians that he has been dealing with. The loss of life we have suffered - over a 100 persons were killed all because our government would not give up an alleged criminal. We gave 16 others to the USA this year but not this. one. A tourist economy wrecked over one man that the government would not hand over to the USA to face trial. Totally sickening. I am praying, along with so many others, that he will sing and sing it loud!

I will email you some cartoons of what is happening. A certain Pastor who worked in the Office of the Prime Minister was driving him to the US Embassy when the Police intercepted the car. They let the first car go and he is in the second car - dressed in a women's dress and a wig. The jokes are quite hilarious and there is one that I will email you now. The Pastor should have driven him to a police station so he has been charged with harbouring a fugitive. Funnily enough at 4 pm the US Embassy is closed so where was he driving him too? Our PM is in Canada talking about International Crime at the G8 Summit. It is all beyond a joke. I will send them now.

*LOL* @ seeing so many loons! I could go to the river if I wanted to at any time with the kids. Infact I'll probably go to one tomorrow near a park and farmers market in our downtown. I don't think I've seen a loon though I don't go too often there. But I know if I recall the right time I can see a ski show on the river on certain evenings.

Sounds like a plan. Maybe even some fishing if it's allowed?

That would require buying licenses and equipment and the kids are far more interested in swimming anyway.

There are many things to choose when using your lunch break and a lot of them would be much wowrse than taking a walk along a river in California

That is very cool. I remember when we were in Sacramento around 10 years ago . . . a friend of ours was an art/set director for a theater in the round group out there at the time. We ventured into Old Sacramento - and I remember we took the time to watch the Sacramento river that goes through it. It's very neat you can go to a lake and river on your lunch break . . . nothing like that around my old work place - at least not walking distance.

Did you go to the railroad museum? I haven't been yet... But we go to Old Sacramento every so often, hit the shops, eat, watch the river, etc.

I don't think we made it on that trip - I think we wanted to hit the road at a certain time. But we do love railroad museums - especially my hubby!! It was fun to go to Old Sacto . . . very historic looking. I seem to recall we ate at the Subway there - hee hee. I have a friend up in Davis too - one day we'd like to go visit him. I know he goes to Old Sacto every now and then too.

It was 97 in Round Rock today, 95 downtown, too hot to want to walk. I did walk over and get the mail for Maggiepie, but if it goes to triple digits again, I'll probably take the car again! Last year this time we already had 6 triple digit days! So far 95 has been the highest in town, but with the heat index... more like 105 to 109! I haven't see a loon in a while, most of the waders I see are egrets. Did once see a blue heron - boy was THAT one big bird! I wish it were cooler, I'm already tired of summer!

We usually have had a few triple digit days by now, not one so far. But July is our hottest month, so it will no doubt we way too hot to walk regularly at lunch again until at least late September. This is when I start walking in the evening more near home down by the beaver pond.

Hi, dawnald. It is nice to know that there is always a place that you can go to that is very pleasant and calm. I wished that there was a place that was like this where I live at. I would enjoy walking and relaxing on an area that is like this. I hope that you enjoy your walk during lunch time.

Hey dawn! I think I would definitely pick your situation over the others. Walking along a river at lunch time, sounds like a great way to spend an lunch break to me! I always hated office politics more than anything! If I had my choice I would definitely go for the "river view" and of course the loon too!

As a matter of fact, there are a couple of loons here where I work. And one is even on my department. Anyway, great that you have a great area to take walks on your lunch hour. The company-building where I work is in an industrial area. So, pretty much it's the same boxed-buiding everywhere. And on breaks, it is the same people trying to run to the gasoline stations to get coffee.

We have two rivers and waterfalls. Water is icy. When I was stressed, I'd rather walk there sat alone at the surface. Water will do something to comfort me. We are currently in the pouring rain and I love the way it sounds on the roof of my office. I work alone, this is me very well. I faced too much pressure on the classroom where I have taught in 10 years, resign. I have good and loneliness, but interactions with security, ground personnel, etc. I have never seen such a beautiful dragon

It's hot in California, but we don't do muggy... But in Florida you supposedly take a shower in May and you don't dry off until November!

Walking around - Walking is not good when it is hot and raining.
Personally i don walk around during lunch time, because i just 1 hour and the traffic and hot weather discourage walking and also the headache with work related issues. However, sometime i have a nap, and dream about flying around shooting gozillaes and such, sometime dream of dropping into a bottomless pit.If i walk usually will visit the nearest dvd shop to browse titles and also enjoy the air con.
