Bought some Books

Books will be coming in the mail, I've already got two, but I suspect the next two mail days we'll yield some great packages. I've bought some Louis L'Amour, amongst other authors. I already started reading some of Louis L'Amour and I have to say so far I am impressed. I should be mylotting, after all I am nowhere near ten dollars yet and I want to make cash out for this month, but I am drawn to read as well. So I believe somebody recommended to me Louis L'Amour, whoever did I greatly appreciate it. I know it's taken me quite a few months to start ordering some of his books, but I hadn't forgotten. Someone also suggested the "Who stole My cheese?" book and I read about it... it sounds very interesting, I may pick that up at some point as well. So are you reading more now that the economy is in shambles, or are you still spending your money on movies, and games? We still buy games, but I am trying to get more into reading again as well.

I have read all of my life and I feel lost if I do nt have a book to read. Out local Cancer society sells used books one amonth so I buy at least 6 and then give them the back the ones that I had bought the previous month so that they can be sold again. Reading is a stress buster and when you are engrossed in a good book you can shut out the world for a while. Keep reading and find ut where you can buy used books. Blessings

I buy used books from GoHastings now, it's a website that has good deals, and they ship very fast. I didn't know that The Cancer Society sold books, if I could find out where they do in my community that would be nice, though maybe I'll stop by the Salvation Army again one day, they had books and I can from them to help for a good cause. Don't think I'll return the books, lol just buy more because I love to reread some of my favorite books.

We have a lot of books here too, and I'm building up my own collection, not sure where to put them. Hard covers are great as they don't wear and tear as easily as the soft covers do.

I should have said that if I get something really good then I do not return that book either. Some that I get are hard copies and they are treasures to me. My home is small though and I have several hundred books so I do have to give awaybut it is for a good cause

I am not really reading more. But a few weeks ago I decided to myself that I should learn a little more about the job that I am in. I feel as if I am just coasting, and if I wanted to improve I should learn more about the things that I do so I could be more of an expert. Well today, after a meeting with a suppler, I've been handed a free book about the very topic I wanted to learn. This would be an interesting read for the times that I am just waiting for my kids at their afteschool activities. It will force me to read, economy-in-shambles or not.

Hopefully the book won't be too boring, I'd be turned off of anything educational that I didn't want to read, or if it was something to do with my job, regardless of whether I wanted to learn more or not. I guess I'd rather listen to the book then read it if it had to do with work. Hope it helps you to learn more and rise up in your field, hopefully getting away from what you do now... I know you have said in the past you don't enjoy it.

I know! It would be boring to most, even me. But, you're right, I don't enjoy my job right now. But if by learning more I could move on to bigger and better things, I might as swell do it now.

Oh wow, he has? That is so interesting, I hadn't known that. Right now I am reading "The Tall Stranger" and the way he describes this place is amazing. I got the books as I like to read Western Novels, and hope my husband will enjoy his books as well. He doesn't like to read books with too long of chapters, but Louis L'Amour enraptures you.

My mother read alot of Louis' stuff. I would rather read than play most games. Or go to a good movie. The economy is bad but we can still enjoy life and be a part of it. Just have to adjust and refrain from some things which we really didn't need to begin with. Ya know what I mean?

I'd been recommended his stuff, and am glad I finally picked up a few of his books. He's a great storyteller in my opinion. Yeah sometimes just sitting back and reading a good book can be more enjoyable then games or movies. Hmm adjust and refrain, monetarily, or well anything really. Monetarily I get what you mean, though I wonder if you don't mean adjust and refrain from bad things, bad habits we have, not necessarily to do with money.

Hi Cowgirl! I have also started reading alot more too! I really started going "reading crazy" last Summer. I had been in one of the dollar stores near where I live and they had some hard cover books there and I actually found 4 that sounded interesting so I bought them and read them all! They were all great so I have been picking up books here and there and buying some online too! I just finished a great book called "Hold Tight", by Harlan Coban. He is an incredible writer. I love mysteries and he has so many books out and I am thinking about buying a few more after I finish some of the others that I have left to read!

What a great find! I have looked at Dollar Tree books before but not too extensively, I am glad you found some good ones. It does seem like Dollar Tree is starting to get more, better quality things... I guess better quality isn't the right word, but maybe strange and different? They have a website you can order off of now, so maybe they're getting bigger business now.

I have yet to read L'Amour; he is one of the many authors I intend to read soon :) I am *still* buying books. The second hand book store I frequent is practically giving a lot of their books away, since they have new stock coming in. I was able to get titles at 5 Php to 20 Php (Philippine Peso), which amounts to almost 5 cents in the US. You can imagine my spree at that store. One of my goals this year is to read more than a dozen books, or a book and a half a month. Seeing as my book shopping habits are not helped by fortunate finds in the second hand book store, I have an e p i c backlog. I hardly ever buy new titles. Maybe two or three times a year? Once on my birthday maybe then in Christmas. I have yet to get to those too. I know I have to save up my money, since times are hard and might get even harder (we'll never know), but at least I have a huge library of my own to pick and choose from to keep me reading! :)

I do not think you will be disappointed by L'Amour when you get around to reading him. five cents a book sounds like a find and I'd surely be leaving with a bunch of good finds if books were that cheap around here. Sounds like if the economy ever gets too bad you'll be entertained for years with just reading! We don't get books all that often, we either get them because we've read a book and want to get the whole series, or yeah that's usually it.

I love the economy bit in your comment, SomeCowgirl! I'll have to agree. I have years worth of entertainment and knowledge stockpiled right next to me as I type this! :)

Reading in real sense is certainly a good habit and books are always our good and noble friends! Swami Vivekananda has interpreated 'Books' as the entangled form of God! Books are the carriers of the expressions of everything humans have achieved so far, in alpha-numerical as well as pictorial form for study as well as reference! It is the books those are our old friends from childhood to ripe old age! Take some new books every year from book exhibition like me! Thanks and have the company of good books always!!

Hi, I believe I have heard that being said, that books are an entangled form of good. Books definitely bring you closer to things that a television wouldn't. I guess it's hard to explain, books are just wonderful things, a look into the soul sometimes, a journey to a new world... T.V. doesn't let you imagine what a character looks like, or what a place looks like, a book describes it for you, and yet you see it in your Mind's Eye, and you feel it, feel like your there. T.V. Tries to do that, but fails in my opinion.

I've never been too into western books, horse books that are set in the west, but not westerns... I did read his Haunted Mesa, and it was annoying to have him apologize every other other page about writing a science fiction story... ANNOYING!!!

@Rosekitty - I read it BECAUSE it was, kind'a... sort'a science fiction - an alternate world story. The theory of the "multi-verse" has always been of considerable interest to me, like psi talents and time travel. I don't normally read westerns either, unless they are horse stories... Thomas C Hinkle wrote a lot of those.

I know you like to read, and I think reading is a good thing, and I think it is a good thing to not buy only video games, and I am glad you like the Louis L'Amour books, and I think that Who Stole My Cheese book seems like a book I might even read even though I have a short attention span, and I know I wanna get the rest of the Emigrant series books so you can read them to me,and I might even try to find more books that I would wanna read,I love with all of my heart and soul.

To be quite honest I think that you should read the book I just finished from him. It's short, and is almost a fast read. Not as fast as Willy's book, but I think you will like it nonetheless. Hopefully more of the books I ordered you will like. You could always start with the one I have in here, it has short stories in it and it might grab your attention and keep it, so then you'll know whether you'll like any of his other books.

I like books that are short, and I am sure not many books will be as fast reads and Willy's book, and I might read the one you finished, and a book with short stories is probably a better place to start since I might be able to keep my attention on it, and I need to get back in the habit of reading before I try to tackle to many books, since it has been probably a year since the last time I read and it would be nice to read more, and spend a little less time playing video games.

I've been reading since before the economy went bad, and I really haven't quit. I think reading a good book is better than watching tv, surfing the internet, playing games, and watching movies! I hardly ever buy movies, and I never play video games. Sometimes I'll use my money on a CD or a DVD, but most of the time my money goes to books. If I have loads of money, I say, "BOOKSTORE TRIP!" and I happily skip off to buy books.

Borrowing from the library I always either didn't find books I liked, or didn't find time or didn't want to read all I had. I usually returned or renewed most of them, never to read the book. Being able to pick up the book at any time is a plus for me, just in case I get out of a binge of reading and put the book down for awhile.

I read no matter what the economy is like. I wish @cynthiann and @SomeCowgirl and anyone else who loves to read lived in my neighborhood. Then I would be able to give you the books I'm currently leaving at the free section in the library and loan you my favorites I don't want to part with. I have some L'Amour books I haven't read yet because I'm not wild about westerns, either, but the books have been highly recommended by someone I respect. Someday.
