I myself is a avid reader of various kinds of books, but when it comes to the Bible, there are times that i get lazy in reading it. Yet every time someone tells me a portion of the Bible, i just want to continue reading it. The bible is a book of God, written by man who God revealed Himself to them. I think to know more about God we should read the Bible and really understand it, not a simply way but with understanding.

my first attempt at reading the bible was back when i was in 4th grade. i don't know when or why but i stopped. i don't remember trying to pick up reading the book after that. i don't even remember where i left of. there have been times when i thought of buying a copy so i could get back on my reading but i haven't bought one yet. i also get confused about issues on 'good' and 'bad' bible translations. i don't know which one's i should buy.

well there are really various kinds of versions available. I suggest you read NIV(new international version) or if available try also recovery version (my friend has this one and there's a lot of footnotes for clearer understanding)

it is very difficult to read as a whole and i guess i read just the important excerpts. i have a 'school manual' that helps outline the gist or the significant, and inspirational parts of the Bible so it's much easier to learn the bible this way. I also think that the New Testament is the easiest for modern people to read.

the old testament is harder to read because it shows symbols and figures of what the new testament is. But i still think both should be read. Im reading Isaiah now, and I am actually impress about God's plan and way. I suggest you also read not just the excerpts since sometimes the excerpts can also miss out some important v3erses with the Bible. And yes it is hard to read, but it is really amazing when everytime i read especially with the footnotes one, i learn something new.

I've not read it in years, and never cover to cover. but I can see that it's a good idea. it's always good to learn about other religions than your own, because the more you understand each other, the better society can work. and I always used to quite enjoy the stories.

I am Catholic but not as wide reader of bible. Back then I was younger, I am called to be "a legion" of Mary so we read bible together. I was a member of a church choir, and entered a Catholic School in high school. I was a reader during the ceremony. These activities offer me a lot of expeditions for the word of God. Bible is a collective words from the people of God categorize in different books eg. Book of John, Mark, Peter, Revealations, Psalm, Paul and etc. I only read few but I guarantee it's in my heart. I think that is most important, isn't it? Reading is comprehending then comprehending is living. SO read and live it.

I do think people should read portions of the Bible but not for the same reasons you do. I am not a Christian so how the Bible relates to religion holds no interest for me. However, I am an avid reader of all types of novels and works. I think people should be familiar with the Bible because it is one of the three great literary references. Writers today and in classic texts reference one of three things: The Bible, Greek/Roman Mythology, and Shakespeare. I believe everyone should be familiar with all three texts from a literary reference point of view. I dare say people are more familiar these days with the Bible then they are with the other two texts which is a shame because they encompass a foundation in humanity's history. So I say to you people should read more Mythology (and not depend on Disney for their Greek Mythology--their Hercules makes me shudder--none of it is correct to the Mythos), and more Shakespeare.

I've been reading a chapter of the bible every night for a few years. I've only read all the way through the Bible once, but I'm very glad I did and I'll continue to try reading it every night. As a Christian, I think it's important to look at the Bible as a whole because you see the whole thing as one big story and you realize that all these different people who came together to write this big book, really did have one vision. There's symbols and foreshadowing in the Bible, and it's pretty awesome when you read it all the way through and discover them.

There are many books written in this time. Famous books came from famous authors are high paying books. The Bible is one of the most controversial books of all time. It was written thousands of years ago and still we are reading it. We should always read Bible to be a part of that history, knowing what happened during the time of Jesus and his Saints is one of the most important.
