I feel so sad with people who do not consider Sleep Apnea syndrome as life threatening... They don't take it seriously and never give proper attention to the patient... Will they just wait for the worst to happen before they take their moves? My apologies, but this is what I am feeling now.

Hi Neil. Does Zayzay have the apnea symptoms only when he's sleeping on his back? I mean, does he have it when he's on his side, too? If it's only when he's sleeping on his back, you might try what someone I knew awhile ago used to do. She had sleep apnea, too. She sewed a little "pocket" onto the back of her pajamas and sewed a golfball inside the pocket. That made her roll over onto her side if she rolled onto her back in her sleep. It prevented the worst of the sleep apnea. She still snored but there was no apnea. If Zayzay only has the apnea while sleeping on his back, try sewing something like a golfball to the back of his pajamas, t-shirt or whatever he sleeps in. See if that at least helps him to stay on his side and sleep better through the night. It did help my friend. Sorry about just mentioning this but I just now remembered it. It may just help poor little Zayzay (and you and Bebie) sleep much better until you can get enough for the operation.

hi marti. zayzay has the symptoms mostly when he sleeps on his back. on his side, he usually sleep better but we still could not take the confidence. there were times apnea attacked even on his side. i think i get what you mean about the golfball pocket. i have talked about this with my wife. zayzay always sleep with two pillows so it keeps him elevated. we usually put him between us, so either me or bebie can monitor him when the apnea attacks.

Sleep Apnea! I heard the name but, I don't know much about it. If this is life threatening, everybody should know the symptoms and consequences. Would you please share?

the threats of this condition varies with the types of the apnea. but both or all types of the syndrome should not be ignored. you can check my blog to see what or how sleep apnea affects a patient. http://neildc-magiting.blogspot.com

am so sorry that this is happening. I have a freind that took these sleep tests and al and she has lost her focus and concentration since then. Like we use to talk on the puter but now she can do her mails and talk at the same time so I just have to make do of when she comes to visit.

Gosh, sleep apnea is serious, and should be taken seriously. No doctor should ignore it, and everyone that has it needs to get treatment for it . The CPAP machine is aggravating at times , but it does work. There are so many things that can go wrong with us if we ignore sleep apnea.Even the mildest symptons like not waking up resting and waking up with a head ache, can affect our lives, the more serious ones heart attack stroke are kind of scary.

hello neil, I understand what you feel as i am feeling the same way too. I feel a bit dismay with friends whom i am sending those link and yet didn't brother to respond. Ok,i am not forcing them or they don't have any obligation to give help. But why? i mean,i don't understand why they doesn't seem to care. Are they not the same friends i used to know? Have they ever changed with the years/time? Does success changed them or their money? I wish i could open their hearts but how? Don't you ever felt like that my dear brother. If you will ever lost a little hope then what could ever happen to zayzay? D D

it's not all everything about the people we are asking for help, sis. but also with those we called professionals, the doctors. they don't seem to ignore the sufferings of the patient. i really feel so disappointed about those previous doctors.

I think it is sad but at the same time I guess it's not urgent kind of help that is given by doctors. I know sleep apnea can lead to high blood pressure, strokes, heart attacks. My neighbour has it and so does my brother. They both use an oxygen mask at nights to help them breathe. My neighbour used to complain about feeling so tired all day long because she didn't realize that she stopped breathing at night. It took her a long time to get any help, and that is as an adult. She uses the machine to help her but it costs her money each month to have. My brother is covered by his insurance.

I think you have good idea about sleep apnea. Is it infectious? You said your brother has got it from your neighbor.

Yes it seems to be inherited because my husband has it but not as severe as before. He used to be overweight and losing the weight helped but sometimes at night I catch him choking.

Hi Neil...how worrisome this all is for you. I know it's tough on your little Zayzay too. I know you are doing everything you can and those rotten so called specialist doctors doing nothing but you must also keep a positive attitude. You are the head of your family and everyone is looking to you for comfort so you must set a good example. Be as positive as you can, be happy and smiley by finding the best of this bad situation. Hang onto what is positive and pass it on to your family and things will be better. OK?

sleep apnea is a condition where patient stop breathing while asleep. obstructive and central sleep apnea are just two of the types of this condition. central is more severe as it involves the brain or is affected with this condition.

I think my husband may have it. He's woken up a few times unable to breath. But he refuses to take it seriously and have it checked out.

It is sad that people, physicians and professionals alike, don't take this syndrome seriously. Lack of sleep can cause alot of health issues with heart attak being among them. It is sad that people don't take it more seriously but it is at their detriment. I hope such discussions help in some way.

You are right! Common people are however less aware of the consequences of such type of syndrome but, when a doctor doesn't take it seriously, how professional he proves himself!

This is a serious condition my friend and a friend of mine has it. He has to wear a special mask each night to help keep his airways open and he has had to register with the driving licence authorities that he has the disease. It can not only cause heart attacks or strokes but can cause the person to fall asleep when carrying out certain tasks unless the sufferer receives the proper treatment. If a person is waking feeling exhausted after sleeping during the night, or has been told by a partner or family member that they snore loudly and stop breathing during sleep, then they should seek medical help. _Derek

A lot of people are uneducated about the condition so it's up to you to explain it to them and how it's dire that your child gets the help he needs. Most people don't realize that the person with this illness can die from it. My husband has sleep apnea and has to sleep with a machine so I know how important it is to you and I hope and pray that you get the help you need for your son.

Sleep apnoea is a very serious concern which should not be dismissed as trivial. My husband suffers from it and I worry about him constantly; he’s had sleep tests and needs to lose some weight because the extra pounds have aggravated the problem. I know your son suffers from this and that you’re working very hard to have him treated. Have you had doctors not give the condition the attention it needs? You are still in my thoughts and prayers and I hope everything will work out and your little boy will be fine.
