Internship: Complete

United States
August 7, 2010 10:23pm CST
So, I am done with my internship at the Wildlife World Zoo! I started it on June 1st and my last day was August 5th. I saved a total of 7 of the feeder mice from the zoo, kept 3 of them for myself; Patch, Ava and Maid Marian. I am really happy that I got that experience, but I am also really happy that it is done because now I get to start my second semester of school on August 23rd! I hope I enjoy it as much as the first! I have a lot of stuff going on before school starts: I am getting my hair styled and I am going shopping with my mom this week to get lots of new clothes! (hopefully I find stuff!) I already have plans for next summer: Volunteering at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary for a week or two and to take their 'How To Start an Animal Sanctuary' workshop! I hope it all works out!!!!

It was fun and I'm glad I did it! Now I am excited to visit Best Friends next summer! The animals there are MORE like what I plan on rescuing in my sanctuary (of course I would like to rescue exotic animals too, so the zoo was very good experience!)

Sounds like you have a great future planned. Good luck in school too. Everything will work out fine. Is your goal to be a vet?
• United States

Oh no, I could never be a vet...couldn't do the surgeries and stuff. My sister is the one going for vet! hehe But I do want to start an animal sanctuary. I'll save animals in another way! Thank you carolbee

Congratulations! It must feel good to get that experience under your belt. Now that you have more of an idea of what goes on are you just as excited about working with animals? It sounds like you are and that you are on the right path in life for yourself. Well done.

Thank you! I did a lot of the food prep and clean up for animals, so I definitely learned some important stuff! Now when I volunteer with Best Friends I'll get more hands on experience with the animals I most want to save (domestic/farm). I definitely think it is the right path for me!

Well I wasted 2 1/2 years too, so we have a little in common that way lol. But I am happy now and can not wait for...well, life! lol What path did you find?

It is great to have something that you are passionate about and be able to follow that path early in life. I wasted many years doing work that I did not really enjoy or find rewarding. Now I am on a better path!

Iggy Again - I love my Iggy-Wiggy
Oh no! I love reptiles, always have. I was probably just worried about having to feed the snakes, but thankfully they didn't make me do that!

(Of course) but I think the one I will miss the most is my dear dear Iggy!!! She's a Rhinoceros Iguana (I've added a picture to my response). I'm gonna miss her!!!! She is so sweet!!!

Congrats lily, you have done well and have great goals..I do want to tell you something even though you didn't ask. If something goes wrong, don't stop, just keep moving forward with your dreams..Sometimes our dreams are put on hold for one reason or another, but it doesn't mean you should give up..I am rooting for you and when you do get that animal sanctuary up and moving and if I make lots from my writing, and if I can, I would like to be a financial part of what you are doing, I think it's wonderful..:)

Thank you very much carmel, you are very sweet! I will keep going, because it's not just me that needs me to succeed...if I don't a lot of animal lives (and possibly people lives) won't be helped!!! So I have to give 110% and not let myself give up! Great advice! Thank you!

hi lilyofthe thorns wondered where you were. Congratulations, sounds like you love animals so much and did enjoy your internship so now off to college and hope you get to volunteer at Best FriendsAnimal Sanctuary workshop. it will work out and what ever your major is you should ace it for sure. good luck and God Bless Hope you find the pretty clothes you will need.
• United States
8 Aug 10
Lol thank you very much Hatley! I hope I find some cute clothes too! And the more I do get, the more older ones I can donate! Yay! I do love animals, more than most people I think! :) That's why I have so many plans for my own animal sanctuary. Just have to hope that works out too. My mom says in this economy something like that probably wouldn't happen...but if I save up, and get donations/grant money it could work out! There is another workshop at Best Friends I'd like to take that teaches you how to get money, "even in this tough economy."

Is it that time already. The summer seamed to fly by. I'm glad you had the opportunity to do the internship. Next summers internship will be great too. Maybe you can even do more than 2 weeks.
• United States
8 Aug 10
Yeah maybe I could do more than two weeks. I'm waiting to get the workshop schedules emailed to me, so I can do workshops and volunteer...make a schedule around them. I think it's very possible I'd do more than two weeks! I think it would be great! And I'm sure I'll fall in with the animals, so I'd probably want to stay with them longer!

I remember my own internship when I was still studying. I was really nervous at first, but when I got used to it I enjoyed it. It was such a great feeling when I finished my internship and got a good grade, so I know how glad you must feel right now. I hope you enjoy everything that you do before school starts. Good luck!

I actually didn't get graded on my internship. I was unable to get college credits for kind of stupid reasons. But I am still happy for the experience and it's good for a resume!

lol Thank you usc! I'm working with the mice I'm keeping so that they are more used to people-they don't really get human interaction at the zoo because they are feeder mice--but I'm lucky enough to have gotten 3 very sweet mice. And none of the mice I saved bite, so they are good pets!
