Do you like to re-read books?

Today there was a book sale at one of the libraries in my area and we were able to fill a bag for a few dollars. It was very cheap and there were several interesting books. I also found many books that I had already read, and I found it hard to decide if I wanted to put them in the bag and read them again or just leave them. I sometimes read my favourite books more than once, but most of the time I prefer to read new books instead of books that I have already read. Do you like to re-read books or do you prefer to read new books? Why? If you are at a book sale and find books that you have already read, do you buy them and read them again or do you leave them because you already know the story?

No, i hate it ! I have a very good memory and I feel like just read the book. When read I don't like to know what happens in the book. The thrill is not the same when i know the end

When you already know what happens the story sometimes becomes less interesting, I have experienced that as well. Sometimes I can't stop reading because the story is so interesting and I just have to find out what happens next, but the second time when I already know the details of the story, the thrill is not the same. Sometimes I get disappointed when I read a book for the second time, and I think that happens because I already know the story and I know how it is going to end.

I do re-read some books but I prefer to read ones that I haven't read. It all depends if the book is a good one. Also, when you re-read a book, yu already know what is going to happen which makes it somewhat boring, but there are some books that blow me every time I read it. I usually read unfinished series to brush my mind and to remember hints and clues that I could use for the books later in the series.

Yes, when you re-read books you already know what is going to happen and sometimes that makes the story less interesting. When I read a book that I really like I sometimes decide to read it again later. There are books are still great the second time you read them or the third time, but pretty often I get a little disappointed when I read a book again, because the first experience was better than the second one.

I like re-reading books. Sometimes a book is so good that even when I am not finished, I know I would re-read it again. Books is one of those things that I like buying used. Second-hand clothes could be dirty, second-hand electronics could malfunction but no matter how beaten up a book is, the words are still the same.

I also like to buy used books, because new books are pretty expensive. In the second hand shop in my country we can find books that cost 50 cents or one dollar. Most of the books that I have bought in second hand shops have been fine, but every once in a while some pages are misssing and that is very annoying. Sometimes I am able to find some books in second hand shops that you can't buy in the bookshops anymore, and that is nice, especially if it is a book that I have been looking for.

I have re-read a few books, but normally I don't. I do keep a lot of "classic" books. I figure my children will read them and they actually have read quite a few already. Most of the books that I do re-read are classic books. I don't think I have ever re-read a mystery book, as I already know the ending, so there is no surprise element anymore for me.

About reading, I choose many types, some I just read for funny, some just becasue it is a good book for life or it is a famous book that is well known throught out the world. And also different period of life we may choose different books, and also one book, we may have many different feels for each time we read. So, about the book, for the good book I have read, I would like to buy them and after many years like two or three years, I will re-read it.But for the book I read just for funny, I will not buy them.

Yes, in different periods of our lives we choose different books, that is also my experience. When I re-read books that I read several years ago I sometimes get pretty disappointed, because the book isn't as good as I thought when I read it the first time. I think it that happens because before I was younger when I read it the first time and because I was in a different period of my life at that time.

I absolutely love re-reading books... well, at least my favourite ones! For example, I'm a huge fan of Dragonlance (for those who aren't familiar with it, it's a great fantasy series), and I've probably read those books more than 5-6 times already, but I never get tired of them. Of course, I also love reading new books as well :) If I found books at a sale that I've already read... buying them would depend on how much I liked them, I guess.

I have heard about Dragonlance, but I haven't read any of them yet. When I find books at a sale that I have already read I buy them if I really like them. Yesterday at the book sale there were a coople of books that I had already read several times, and I found it hard to make up my mind. I liked the story, but I wasn't sure if I really wanted to read it one more time. I ended up buying some of them, but I might donate them to charity when I have read them.

Donating them to charity seems like a really nice idea. Also, I've heard of some sites in which users can exchange books and such things, maybe you could check that out too :)

I re-read many of the classic novels. When I had plenty of time during my university years, I read a number of classic novels, and I made a collection of them. Today, when I get the time, I would often re-read my favorite classics, and enjoy them very much too. Yes, when I find some favorite books at the sale centers, I often buy them too if I already don't have them.

My parents have a collection of the classics from my country. I have read some of them, and I plan on reading to some the classic novels that I haven't read yet. I read some of them in high school, but I think it could be nice to read them again, because I think that I might enjoy them more today. Right now I have a huge pile of books in my living room, I haven't read all of them. I am going on a trip soon and I plan on bringing lots of books so that I have something to read on the train.

I usually prefer to move on to new books, but there are a handful that I have read twice. It will usually be years later, when I will remember something about the book but not all of it and it may trigger me to want to read it again. I read the Catcher in the Rye in highschool and to Kill a Mockingbird and I want to read each of those again. I don't remember a lot about them as that was like 25 years ago but I do remember I liked them.

Sometimes I like also reread books that I have read many years ago. I remember that I liked the book, but I don't remember all of it. I often wish that I had written down the authors and the titles of the books that I like, because I remember part of the story, but I don't remember the author and title, so sometimes it is hard to find the book again...

I do re-read books... but rarely. I'm an avid reader and I can't go anywhere without a book or spend a day without reading a few chapters of something. I typically finish 2-3 books a week (a bit less now that college has gotten crazy, but I'm still reading lots). I've read 7 books twice, and ONE book three times. I usually don't re-read unless a long time has passed and I LOVED the book the first time I read it. I like going back and reminding myself of all the details and discovering things I hadn't seen before. I usually like to own copies of books that I loved. If I got the book from the library, then I'll get myself a copy. I like feeding authors that I love. Even if I don't read it again immediately... I probably will someday.

You sound a lot like me. I also read every day and I always bring some books when I am going somewhere. I don't know how many books I read per week, it depends on school, work and my other activities, but I read a couple of books every week. I visit the library a lot and I can spend a lot of time there picking out the books that I want to read. My friends usually get impatient if we visit the library together

I see nothing wrong in reading a book more than once. if there is a book that i really enjoyed reading, i would never turn down an opportunity to read it again. Sometimes i can get more out of a book with a second reading than the first. Sometimes there are things that we wish that reading a book again will find for us.

Sometimes when I read a book for the second time I also feel that I get more out of it than I did the first time, and I discover details etc that I missed the first time. In some cases the book is less interesting the second time, because I already know the story, and sometimes I get the opposite feeling and actually enjoy the story more the second time, because I have a knowledge that I didn't have when I read the book for the first time.

That depends on what type of book it is. There are a few books I keep re-reading because I do not get the meaning or moral right away, or that it is a good reference, or there are many ways to study it piece by piece. For example one book I keep re-reading is the bible no matter how many times you have read it, there is always something new about it. Next are devotionals, motivational books- I find that it is a goldmine of advices and since there are times I am bound to forget this and that I'd like to go back to it. Novels,,,well not much I prefer to borrow them than buy them.

I agree with you about the motivational books. I also read them many times, because I forget some of the things and I learn something new each time I read my motivational books. There are several authors that I like, but my favourite author is Wayne Dyer and some of his books I have read so many times, but I still learn something new. When I change, the way that I understand the books also change.

I love library sales! Most of the time I prefer reading new books.. there are so many out there I want to read, but I also read my very favorites over and over again. Why? I think it's a comfort/feel good thing. Like going home again.... If I see my favorite book at a sale and I don't already have it on my shelf, I will probably buy it, depending on how many books I already have in my bag! What are those favorite books that you had such a hard time deciding on?

The books that I were looking at were collections of horror stories. I already know the stories, but I think that some of them are very wellwritten, and I think that I will be able to use them as inspiration when I write my own horror stories, so I decided to buy them. I don't get the same thrill when I already know the stories, but I still remember the feeling I got when I read them for the first time and I would like to creative stories that make the reader feel the same way.

I like to read books with illustrations over and over again, like arts, home designing, science, even biographies. But I do not re-read stories or novels. I do buy secondhand books, as long as there are no scribbles in the pages; just a few may be fine.

I have re-read some novels, but most of the time I read new stories instead. I also buy second hand books, it is much cheaper than buying new books and most of the books that I have bought at second hand shops have been okay. I always check the books before I buy them, because some of them are full of scribbles and sometimes a few of the pages are missing...

I love re-reading books. Not all books obviously but I have some books that I've read 4 or 5 times. The chances are that if I re-read a book I already own it so wouldn't necessarily buy it at a book sale. Having said that I've borrowed tonnes of books from friends over the years and have bought a copy of the book myself after reading my friend's. Also, unless it's a thriller or detective novel which by their very nature are difficult to re-read, there's no reason not to read a favourite book again and again. It's a bit like watching a favourite film and seeing new things in it every time you see it. I have to have a book on the go so if I look at my bookshelf and can't think of what to read or don't fancy some of my newer books I reach for some old favourites. Particular favourites are anything by Jane Austen, Wuthering Heights and Crazy Horse and Custer by Stephen Ambrose all of which I've read multiple times. Also if you read your books more than once you get more for your money.

Sometimes I also buy my own copy of the books that I have borrowed from friends or the books that I have borrowed at the library. If I really like the book I want to have my own copy so that I can read it again when I want to. Yes, re-reading books is a bit like watching the same film again, and sometimes you discover details that you missed the first time.

i do like to re read books after a very long while as there are some books that are worth reading. and it's not just the non fiction books, but fiction novels as well. of course, as the earlier post said, the second time might less thrilling as when reading it for the first time but i feel, if it's after a long time with a long gap, even a fiction books is worth reading again. there are some books that are really good and of course, it also depends on your preferences. non fiction books, i'll definitely re read as i might tend to forget and might want to jog my memory a little. good day

I do same thing. I keep the books that I really like and the ones I didn't like I donate to a second hand shop. I have a collection of books in my home, but I only want to keep the ones that I really like and the ones that I know that I want to read again one day. If I don't like the books there is no reason to keep them I think, it is better to donate them to a second hand shop so that other people will get the chance to read them. Maybe they will appreciate them or enjoy them more than I did

Yes I like to reread books. If I find one I remember reading but don't have a copy of I will pick it up, ofcourse I consider the price of the book as well. If I feel like a story has ended to abruptly I like to imagine it continued on, or of course I'll search for a sequel if there's no indication that there will be one in the first book itself.

I love to re-read the books I have on my shelves. I buy them for a reason and I have gone back to a bunch of the books that I have read. Sometimes when I dont have the time or money to go looking for a new book to buy I will grab one of my favorites and sit down to begin reading. I have a ton of books around my room. But if I have a book i don't think I would re-read I either donate it to the library or I sell it to half priced books.

I always re-read my favorites! Janet Evanovich especially! I LOVE her books! I've read that series 3 times already! Actually, my mission is to read all the books I own (FINALLY) and so, I decided the best way to do that was to start on book number 1 on 1 bookshelf and go in order so I will be rereading plenty more books!

I definitely have my favourite books and I tend to read them over and over! I think that when you have found a really exciting book to read then you never really become bored with it. At present I'm going through the Harry Potter books again and it's kind of a nice feeling to be back at Hogwarts once again! I'm not sure how many times I've read these books but I know that it's been more than three times now. I also like purchasing new books although I don't buy my books from shops or stores on the high street now, I prefer to buy my books online and I'm a member of a home book club. I don't usually purchase books that I have read already and I only ever re read the books that I have in my home. In any case reading is the best hobby in the world, in my view! A cup of tea and a good book, this kind of does it for me! Andrew
