lots of companies these days have a policy, if you dont work, you dont get paid so many people i know drag their sick and exhausted body to work just so they can get paid but at what cost to the other employees? will a boss use that against you if you are sick and unable to come in? for me, i go to work if i am sick (unless i am throwing up or sneezing all over the place) because i work in a very small company and if i dont go, the work doesnt get down (plus i only work for 4 hours at a stretch, so i can go home after those 4 hours and rest). what do you think?

I don't get paid if I don't go to work and I have to pay the bills so I have to go to work. I worked Monday and Tuesday this week with pnemonia Luckily I had yesterday off but back to work today. Feeling much better but not 100% yet

I've never known anyone who was able to work when they had pneumonia, usually they're in the hospital as it's a serious illness.

It depends on the type of job and also on the severity of the sickness 1. if a person has a mild cold and is still able to work then yes maybe they should go to work. 2. Though sometimes there is other factor's to consider depending on what type of job is it, for example if the job is centered around food preparation if so I think that person should consider staying home because I would not want to eat at a restaurant where the servers or cooks look sick and have been sneezing coughing or blowing snot rockets on in the food. 3. Some jobs offer sick pay for certain illnesses. now some may say or think why should a person get sick pay. lets say the person worked five years and not just medium work but really good loyal work for those five years, and then one day they get really sick, I think five years of loyal good services deserves a helpful reward I mean people who do good work deserve a chance to still support there familys while they recover. in fact I think that a lot more jobs should have sick pay for there workers I know that things are not always as they should be and life is not fair. But employer's should not only be looking at there bottom line, but they should also show thanks to there hard working employees who dedicate themselves to doing a good job, and not take them for granted. after all good workers are hard to find and its the employee's that help keep business running.

I believe that if if you are not feeling well, you should not be going to work. You are not doing the job or yourself any favors by going to work wheb you are under the weather. you may be risking the health of your co-workers by exposing them to what you may have. It is best to stay home and get yourself better before returning to work. It will benefit everyone you work with that way.

Hello! I do not go to work whenever im sick or my daughter is sick. Health is wealth, i must take good care of my well being because its the same body that i need when working. Furthermore, its one way our body tells us that she can't go on working anymore for that day or couple of days because she's not feeling well. Money is important but health is far important than money, i must say. Good night!

Sick people who handle documents are spreading their disease.

That happens far too often but hopefully because of the pandemic people will think twice before attempting to work when they have flu symptoms

I think every place should have a few days for sick days. Otherwise, people have to go in when they're sick or go broke if they stay home. Not very good choices. People's temperatures can spike, they can seizure or a person can unknowningly give people brochitis, pneumonia, etc. H1N1 spread like wildfire in our area schools because people were afraid to take time off until they were too sick to stand (and little kids sneezing all over).

Yep, all employers should have rules that no one whose ill should come to work, that way they might prevent an epidemic.

I think that if you are sick, you shouldn't go to work. But that depends a lot on the type of work you are involved in too. If your work is one that deals a lot with face-to-face interactions with people/customers, then showing up at work sick is not very desirable. But if you just work in an office with minimal or no people interaction, then it is still possible to show up at work as long as you can pull through it. For me, when I am sick I will still try and show up at work if I don't feel too bad. I guess the key is just to know your limits. I remember there was once I had a bad diarrhoea and I showed up at work. I had to go to the toilet every 15 minutes or so and that greatly disrupted my work performance. After that incident, my supervisor told me straight that I should take my sick leave if I am not feeling well at all.

You should NOT go to work if you are sick. Do your co-workers a favor and keep your germs at home. Your co-workers, and your employer (if your employer has half a brain) would much rather you stay at home than to show up sick and infect everyone with whatever you have.

When I still worked I noticed that many employers barely had 1/3 of a brain and expected people to recover in 2 days

I don't like people to go to work when they are sick. I understand why you go to work when you're not feeling well since you feel that the work must get done, but I myself do not want to get sick because someone else was thoughtless and not worried about spreading germs to others who then may get sick as well. I hope that you think twice the next time you decide to go to work when you are sick. Take care!

for me, i really do work even though i am sick, because i really don't get paid if i didnt go to work....but if your sickness is unbearable already, it is not advisable for you to work...our body is our prime capital, we should not abuse it...

You could be contagious which means your co workers could get sick too and contaminate their families

A doctor once told me that when you start to become physically sick that is your body talking to you and asking you to take a rest :)

The only thing is,YOU may be up to going in to work, needing the money, but there's the chance you're going to infect everybody else ,and then whatever bug you may have goes around the building...

It can be a tricky questions to answer at times. However, I think that it really does depend on the situation. I do think that there are some circumstances when you should just stay home. However, there are times, when we should make an effort. It just depends on each situation.

I think it's about someone spreading a virus. If you're sick you really should stay home.

How do you determine if you are contagious?

Being a doctor it is my suggestion to all that try to avoid going to your place of work if you are sick. The cause behind such a suggestion is very simple. If it is a contagious disease, you need isolation at your house, otherwise you will spread the infection to your fellow colleagues if you go to your place of work. If it is not contagious yet it may be so that bed rest is essential for a speedy recovery from the disease you are suffering, so if you go out for work, you will not get the required rest and have to suffer more. Moreover every disease requires some rest for a speedy recovery & there are some where bed rest is a must for the management of the disaese. So for every disease I would suggest bed rest at home.

Each work place has its rules and unfortunately we're at the mercy of those rules and those that make the rules. When I used to work as a salesman, I always had to go to work, because customers were depending on me. But I usually did only what was absolutely necessary and then got home to recuperate. Boy am I glad I don't work anymore!

Please don't go to work if you are sick. (Unless you are not contagious) If you are feeling bad, stay home and rest. I understand that some people really need the money, but if you are not getting the work done well, it is almost a waste of the company's money and time as well as a waste of your own time. You are sick for a reason, your body is trying to tell you to slow down and rest until it gets better. For me, I would just stay home and get better so my preformance could be better when I do get back to work, rather than just dragging through the day. (I am also paid by the hour, so it does effect me.) (Sometimes bosses are on salary pay, so they mind taking the time off if they are sick.)

I remember getting sick because some bozo believed it was just allergies when in fact they had a contagious flu.
