Bad Movies

September 16, 2010 2:31pm CST
When you're a little ways into a movie and you think you may get an explosive migraine from just how stupid it is, do you keep watching anyway? I can't help myself! I think I'm a glutton for punishment. I'll be sat, watching the dullest and/or silliest of films, but I figure that since I've started I might as well finish it, when any sane person would have switched it off. Like it's suddenly going to stop being rubbish! It hasn't happened yet, but I still do it. I'm the same with books. I've started so I have to finish! I think it must be O.C.D.

Yeah I do. I have to finish what I start even if it is just totally aweful. My husband is the opposit though if he starts watching a movie and it is bad he will turn it off right away. They I will be like, "Hey I was watching that." Then he tells me I can watch it later if I really want to, and sometimes I actually do even if I thought it was stupid so far.

Ha! I'm so glad I'm not the only one. I don't know why. I'll sit saying out loud, "This film is ridiculous" and yet keep watching.

There have been times that I have watched a bad movie start to finish, but most of the time I turn it off, and try to find something better to watch.

That's what I should be doing! I'm daft.

I don't have time for bad movies. If the movie isn't enjoyable for me, I don't bother watching the rest of it.

That's the attitude I should have! It's like I feel that if I've started, I have to finish. I think the only book I ever stopped reading because it was so dull, was War and Peace. I've finished books before thinking, "That was a waste of several hours!"

I can go one step further as not only do I get to the end of a bad movie but at a later point I will watch it again to see if I was just having an off day the first time around. Surprisingly half the movies which I thought were cr@p the first time around actually improve the second time, although there are some which are just plainly cr@p and pointless.

Oh I can't watch a film again if it was truly terrible the first time! That's too much for my sanity!

I am an avid movie watcher. i love to watch all types of movies. sometimes i find myself enjoying movies that others often don't. A movie has to be utterly horrible for me to begin watching and stop.

Me too. I love my movies. We have rather a lot of DVDs. I question my partner's taste though. We differ on Adam Sandler!

I can't stand bad movies, I can barely stand mediocre movies. For me to finish a movie it has to be pretty darn good.

My Dad is like that. It's rare that he will watch anything to the end!

No! I think you are kind hearted and you are hoping against hope that the cr@p you are watching will turn good at the end! Sorry, usually it is cr@p all the way through! Next time you want to try a film , have another you can see instead! Same with a book. I know it will be hard but it Is ok to stop watching one to see the other.

Life is too short to suffer through a bad movie!

Yes, I have done this many times myself! I tend to think that the movie may get better in a minute. It has to be very bad for me to just stop watcing altogether, but I have done that once or twice! _Derek

I once sat through three hours of "The New World", which is quite possibly the most boring film ever made! I felt like kicking the TV!

I am pretty much the same, if I have started it I have to finish watching Luckily I have not watched a film in quite a while that was bad to the point of being unwatchable.

I think the last one we saw like that was "The Taking of Pelham 123". What were Denzel Washington and John Travolta thinking?! Still watched the whole film though!

I saw in one of the responses here that the movie you watched was 'The New World'. Must have been somekind of world! If it were on a cinema, I'd sit through it just because I already paid for it. I might doze off and catch some z's though. If it were a dvd I rented, I'll just make my time productive and grab the laptop and do somesurfing while watching.

It was a three hour film! Colin Farrell. Absolutely terrible. I'm fidgety so I'm usually doing something on the computer while watching films anyway. Luckily for me sometimes!

There are certain actors that might put me off watching a film if I've seen them before and not liked them or if they have a publicly rude and arrogant attitude like Russell Crowe.

Hi there Phaedra! Well this topic made me remember a film I've watched when I was young.. It was Salem's lot. Since I thought it was a scary movie, I watched it. I was so pissed off everytime I thought that was it but then, all I see is Salem's hand with long nails.. And then another scene takes place. I really should have turned it off.. but like you, I was still hoping it would somehow make sense.. but I failed!! The movie was a rubbish! and I wasted my time for it.. That movie was really a waste of time and effort.. I just laugh and shake my head everytime I remember that..

Thanks for the warning! I probably would have watched that too because I like horror and Stephen King!

I am on a quest to watch Jim Carrey movies so I watched one of his older movies the other night Peggy Sue Got Married. I was very disappointed in this movie. Had some great stars like Carrey and Nick Cage and was directed by Francis Ford Coppola but it was really a dud. There are some many movies that are either great or total duds.

I'd never even heard of that one. I think I'll avoid it now though!
