This cake's gone to the dogs!

16th birthday cake - A nice cake for a dog lover!

This is the latest cake from the kitchen of my talented daughter. It is for a 16 year old dog lover. I love the way that the dog themed cake with 4 handmade dogs and paw prints, has 'dog collars' around each cake with tags on for personalising! If someone were making you a special birthday cake, would you like a hobby themed cake or a more traditional birthday cake?

that cake is very cute, when I was a kid, a horse cake would've been adored, now I'd prefer a castle - but I'm not sure I could EAT a cake that was a castle!

They surely will be worth waiting for. They are so very unique and she has so much talent. Keep them coming. You did not say what kind of surgery. Hope all goes well and recovery is quick.

I love to read all your cake discussions oldchem! Maybe one reason is my having a sweet-tooth? Yes, I would very much love a themed cake. I'm a nurse and that seems like one good theme for a cake. I wonder what concept or idea your talented daughter could come up with next. She is a gem.

I have to admit I look forward to her sending me the pictures of her latest creations!! I can just imagine a nurse themed cake - she'd love that task!!

How cute!!! I would love a cake like that. I really don't care for a traditional cake, but then again, I am far from a traditional gal...LOL I love hobby themed cakes because it is a more personalized cake...just for the birthday person. Well I have said it before, but your daughter does beautiful work. I wish I had her talent.

I agree the themed cakes are certainly a lot more personal.

Wow your daughter made that. She has talent. I love to find pictures of my childrens interests when it comes to making their birthday cakes. I think I like themed cakes more than a traditional.

She actually made my husband a Betty Boop cake for my husband's 60th birthday. It was a three tier one with 'Betty' sat on the top holding a bottle of champagne!

What a great cake! I like the idea of themed cakes - it certainly makes them more special. I'm a tree lover, so think it would be good to have one in a chocolate tree shape with lots of edible leaves!

Now I would be standing there ready to taste that one, and just think leaves are 'greens' so the chocolate leaves must be good for you!

I wouldn't really care as much as it tasted good :-) But I know that a lot of the children/teen-agers I know would have loved cakes like that. What does she make the dogs and the other stuff off? I've tried with marzipan, I made pigs etc for some Christmas cakes.

Close up of dog - One of the doggies and his bone!!
All her models are edible and made out of sugar paste. I have put a close up of one of the dogs on here.

kg v - King George V
I'm not a cae consumer, but if I were, I guess I would probably chose something traditional: or perhaps something along a steam rail theme. Great Western King George V, King class locomotive....

Helen would love to get her teeth into that! She gets quite excited when she gets unusual cakes to make.
