Haunted by a speeding ticket - Caught speeding twice!

Personally, I’ve never been caught speeding (knock on wood), but we were just discussing this at work today because a colleague of mine was just haunted by a three year old ticket! It seems he got caught a few years ago at a different state, that he never paid. He said he tried to pay it with his credit card calling from home, but it got all confusing calling out of state. So he put it off, and put it off, and three years later he forgot about it. So, this weekend when he drove again to that state and was again caught for speeding, he got his car impounded and got himself a court date. So, have you ever been haunted by an old ticket? Have you ever been caught speeding? Do you pay it right away? Or do you always drive within the speed limit?

I've had two tickets for speeding in my past, but they haven't haunted me. Both times that I got tickets for speeding, I went to traffic school so that I wouldn't get points on my license. I've never been busted for speeding out of state. That said, most out of state speeding tickets are usually payable by mail and I would definitely take that route if I was caught speeding out of state because of the fact that at least that way I would have proof that the ticket had been paid. And, you should also keep proof of paying your tickets for the rest of your life.

Great advice! I think if I ever got a ticket, the receipt I get for paying it would also go to my folder where I keep all my important documents. It will go with my birth certificate, diploma, insurance policy, etc. Thanks.

Here is the BEST advice I can give you. My future brother-in-law was my lawyer and he assisted me in court. I got pulled over for going 10 miles over the speed limit (45 in a 35). ALWAYS GO TO COURT! Do not just pay the ticket. I was given a $90 dollar ticket and went to court, since it was my first ticket, I was given PBJ (Probation before justice) and my court fees were waved and I only ended up paying $50. Now... I cannot get another ticket for 2 years or else I will get points on my license. So I HIGHLY advise anyone who gets a ticket DO NOT AY IT RIGHT AWAY. Go to court. It is a greater chance you'll get a great judge than an ahole judge. Also.. if your officer does not show up, YOU GET OFF FOR FREE!!!!!!!!!!

That is great advice! I did hear about some cops not showing up on the court date, I just didn't know that you get off for free if they did(or didn't show up). I guess even the prospect of getting a discount is motivation enough to go to court. Thanks.

I have been caught in speed traps so many times over the years but have never received a ticket for speeding. Why? Because I cry. Actually I cry at the sight of any policeman but if caught for speeding I sob and sob and sob and they let me go

I'll make a mental note on that cynthiann. Maybe I'll have some eye drops in the car that would make me look like I'm sobbing if ever I get caught speeding. But I doubt it would work for guys. I wonder if it does if the cop was a woman.

I got a speeding ticket once a long time ago. I took the one day class and paid the ticket so they took it off my record. That's a one time deal though I think. It's been several years ago when that happened.

Well, I guess it worked in your case Jen! If your experience was several years ago, and you haven't gotten any speeding ticket ever since, then it must have done it's job. Hopefully it doesn't happen again, right? Knock on wood.

I have been haunted by this ticket since 2004. The funny thing is that I don't even have a driving license.

Someone in my same road has the same name as I do.

Hello ravend. How could that be? Or did you get your license suspended between 2004 and now? Is that the reason why you don't have a driver's license anymore? Anyway, thanks for dropping by.

Fortunately, i have not had the misfortune of a speeding ticket. i hope that I never do. I try to always obey the speed limits. this really does help to avoid these situations.

I also try to drive within the limit, specially when I am in the highways. And if I haven't seen a cop yet. But if I see somebody's been caught already, that's when my evil twin 'leadfoot' takes over my driving. Sometimes, there is just no way to get around these situations. Thankfully, I've been lucky still.

I have been driving in the city, and along the highways too. I have not got any speeding tickets so far. I certainly drive carefully staying within the speed limits. There are many play ground zones and school zones where there are speed limits. Besides worrying about speeding tickets, I do not want to cause harm to pedastrians.

Well, you have good intentions greenline. If all drivers were just like you, then we wouldn't have to worry about people getting run over on the streets. Specially children near schoolyards and playgrounds. Thanks for the response.

I have never had a speeding ticket luckily. Until very recently I never even went fast enough to get a ticket lol. If I got a ticket I would be mad because its a waste of money but I wouldnt be mad at the cop I would be mad at myself for being stupid enough to speed and get a ticket. I would pay the ticket. I do have a tendency to put things off and forget about them but something like this I would make sure to pay soon.

I'm also fond of putting things off, but you're right! For things like a speeding ticket I would rather pay right away. I wouldn't like to have something like that hanging over my head. Thanks!

I've only ever had one ticket, coming off a bad night's sleep, not that the officer had any sympathy for that. Yep, I paid it right away.
