Atheist Request Today

An atheist lady (health club and lunch buddy) talked to me today. She is an elderly woman with a 43 year-old daughter. The daughter is the youngest of her 4 children. The daughter was just diagnosed with rectal cancer. Needless to say, the mother is simply devastated. She talked at length about how this child never ever gave her one minute's worth of problems. The daughter never smoked, ate a really healthy diet and is just an all around good wife and mother. The mother just kept saying, this should not happen to such a good person. Bottom line, she said although she is an atheist she would like me to add her daughter's name to our prayer group. Of course I said yes and will definitely pray for her daughter. Luckily my mother and 2 other people have recovered so much from their illnesses, our prayers for healing are no longer needed. If anyone wants to join us in praying for this very unfortunate woman, her name is Traci, please add her to your devotions. For the rest of you atheists here, if ever there are times of great strife, its okay seek a higher power. Even when prayers are not answered the way you want, they will give you solace.

I will add my prayers for her daughter and I will pray also that this woman recognizes the power behind the prayers. Who knows? Maybe the daughter will be miraculously healed and the mother will come to know Christ herself. Stranger things have happened. Pray for a miracle!

Thank you. God does work in mysterious ways. I believe this healing will bring the mother to Christ. I feel strength already with so many people praying.

Very well said, teamrose! I am thinking she is not a true atheist. If she was really a die hard atheist she would never ask for prayer because it would be senseless to her. So I guess I'm saying, there's hope...just keep being her friend!

I believe in God, but I also believe in the Big Bang theory! I believe God spoke, and BANG... there it was!

Someone has a song out that has this line that just won't leave my head: "I just prayed to a God I don't believe in" ETA: http://lyrics.filestube.com/song/2852a14aed6cd7b903e9,Breakeven.html I really do think everyone believes in God, some just don't know it yet. I try not to think this way because I certainly don't want anyone every saying to me, "you'll really do believe in the Big Bang Theory, you just don't know it yet" ~ but, that thought just won't leave my mind.

I will pray for Traci and her daughter. These things happen, not as acts of God but as acts of the evil that pervades this world. Life just isn't fair. I hope Traci's daughter recovers--the prognosis for that type of cancer is getting better and I pray she'll be one of those with a good outcome.

I thank you so much. These are two really good people and just knowing they have so many people caring about them will give them both strength for whatever happens.

How nice of you to be sensitive to this woman's hurts and needs and to care about her daughter. I hope both these women will feel the prayers of the believers and will receive a blessing from those prayers.

thanks for your comments. I have shared all the comments with the mother. She is overwhelmed.

This is so nice of you to pray for her daughter and it is equally nice of her to ask someone to pray for her. I hope she gets well soon.

That's nice. Let's pray for the mother, too. If not for enlightenment, at least for some comfort.

Oh yes. What a great idea. I think our prayer circle is the most important job I do in the church. I believe prayer helps heal body, mind and spirit. Faith may not move mountains, but it certainly helps endure the effort.

I agree with macdingolinger. This lady does not sound like an atheist. She may be leaning toward atheism, but she hasn't made her mind up yet. I try not to say I'll pray for people, because usually I don't do it. Instead I ask if I can pray for them RIGHT NOW. I just said a prayer for you, her, and the daughter.
