Do you guys have any activities related to the current season planned? I don't just want to say Halloween, because the plans could be soley fall related. For instance, I am trying to get my dad to go to a local pumpkin patch. I thought it would be something good to take my mom to, as well as some other people we occasionally do things with. I've never been in a corn maze, and it has been forever since I've carved a pumpkin. They are simple things, but I would love to do them. I don't think he's going to do it, but perhaps I can get another friend to go with me. What about you guys? Most people do fun things for Christmas, but what about now?

hi Ambie Pam Here at Gold Crest we will have a costume party for Halloween and I still have not figured out if I could get a costume ready before next Friday as I am really short of money. And living in a place like this its not like when I was in my own apartment with some thing I might be able to use for a home made costume.Last year it wasch a lot of fun as they gave prizes for the best three fifty , twenty five, and fifteen dollars. We had all sorts of good things to eat too and I really did have fun.I still do not w ant to be here but here I am and it sure as heck is a lot better than floating around on the street. I have never been in a corn maze but was in an English maze once and got completely lost. I used to love to go to pumpkin patch and we always had a pumpkin for the kids to carve at Halloween. Its been so boring here since the school system cut the funds for all the senipr programs we liked so much.

It does not really occur to people that when they cut funds for schools it is often things like community outreach that get eliminated. When I worked in a Nursing Home one particular school was close enough that they would walk over once a month to present a program during the lunch time. When the weather was bad they took the bus. I am pretty certain they do not get the funding for that anymore.

Hi ambiepam, I cant say I plan my seasons well. The most reason is I probably always work on these seasons holidays. I am free from ofline work on halloween but I know for sure I work the hole christmas weekend. So there is no point of planning for those times since all I need to do when I am free is sleep and try to relax as much as I can. This year we cant use our saved free time that we can use other wise our boss has said that we are not allowed to take days of during this christmas. For me, I do not care but for others with small children tha can be unfair. The winter season as a hole I stay indoors and try relaxing with sleep, online activities and house hold work.

Haunted houses start at $3-$7 depending on which you decide to go for..and how scary..Possibly you were allergic to what was in the Hay..

Oh, I SO want to go to a Haunted House! I think I'll skip the hay ride if I go to the pumpkin patch. The last hay ride I went on, despite being fully covered, I itched all night.

George the giraffe - He was very good with the kids, took carrots right out of their hands!
I went to the most amazing pumpkin farm in So. Barrington, IL last weekend! There were lots of interesting animals there. I got some awesome pictures. There was a giraffe named George. There were 4 camels. my nieces got to ride on them. There were pig races. There were tons of other animals too. There was a haunted house and a jumping pillow for the younger kids. They also had tons of pumpkins and other plants. There was a shop with fall decorations, pumpkin pie, and apple cider too. It was seriously cool!

Hubby and I used to decorate for every holiday but we don't anymore because we don't have any kids, not by choice but because we just couldn't have any so it just became too much work just for the two of us and we hardly ever have any visitors so the whole decorating idea became a big chore that we decided that we could do without one less thing to do on our 'to do' list. So we gave away a lot of the stuff to people who wanted them. Now we do go to Christmas shows or displays and still put up a Christmas tree but that's pretty much about it.

I'll tell you a secret, and hopefully not many people will read my response. I guess I'm counting on the fact that not many people read all the responses of other people. My secret is that I decorate for holidays a lot simply because it makes me feel less lonely.

Sorry, Pam, I've been reading all the responses. I can understand and appreciate the reason why you decorate. That's what I was doing, too, until this year when I decided to forget the entire season. I'm wondering how my family is going to take it when I tell them I won't be cooking Christmas dinner or putting up any decorations. I decided to stop this year because of my youngest son moving too far away to help me and my having fibromyalgia which makes everything I do hurt and, since no one here cares if I hurt or not, I'm simply not going to do it anymore, although I won't be announcing it. Let my family go through the holidays without me doing one single thing for them. They MAY wake up and see what their attitude has been doing to me. They may not but there's still a chance that they'll realize how much they've hurt me by not caring. You and I really should get together, Pam. We could have a blast!

We normally go to a pumpkin patch every year that has a cornmaze and hayride. We won't get our pumpkins there though as they're expensive. There's a farm around the corner which sells pumpkins for $2 each regardless of size, so that's where we get them and we'll carve them too. This year we did not go to the pumkin patch unfortunately. We've been so busy with working on FIL's place we've not had the time or the money. We did get our pumpkins today though and will carve them tomorrow. On Monday my 7 yr old son's class is all carving pumpkins and bringing them to a local nature center where they're doing a big hoop la next weekend where they'll line their trails with the carved, lit pumpkins and people can go and walk through at night.. which normally the place closes at dusk. Unfortunately there is a larger charge for going at night, so we may not afford it.. but we're going to try like heck since one of our children's pumpkins will be on display there!

I hope you get to go see them. That's exciting for the kids certainly. At the pumpkin patch I want to go to, the pumpkins come with the price of admission.

Pumpkin patch I go to, there is no admission, and the corn maze is free. The hayride costs like $1 per rider, and they sell donuts, cider, and other stuff. They make most of their money on the sales of the pumpkins and other fall decor I'm sure. I couldn't afford it if they charged admission.. not for my whole family.

I usually got up to Wisconsin to leaf peek.....but this year I am running behind and the leaves are all spent....I will be going up next weekend. Usually we go for a ride and see the leaves...and stop at an apple orchard.....hopefully next year I'll be on schedule.

We don't celebrate Halloween, but yesterday we did something we do every October and that is to visit this fruit farm and when my older son sends me the pictures he took, (my camera is now toast..) I will share any that turned out. It is not much, mostly for little kids, but the real fun thing for me is to either walk or take the hayride to the pumpkin patch to pick our own pumpkins for my pies. Unfortunately this season was very dry, so there wasn't much to pick from, so instead we picked from the pile by the little store they have. They also have a bakery with very delicious pastries and of course we bought too much yesterday. This farm also has a not too small, but not huge corn maze and a couple fun things for my son, one is a monster slide and another is the bee line which like i said, once I get the pictures.... They also have goats and cows to pet and lots of apple tree where we can pick apples. Some people pick the apples and eat them, I won't, I take them to the store to have them weighed and buy them. Then we get to play in the hay, (terrible thing for those sensitive to hay, but I am not and my son and I love to play in it..lol) Of course after we left my husband made a comment on how our son is getting too old for the activities, and that maybe this will be our last year..:( But my son and I disagree and want to continue to go. So hopefully yesterday wasn't the last time..:(

Hi AmbiePam, I will probably help to carve a pumpkin with my son but other than that have nothing planned for Hallow'een but I love Christmastime and always go to the Christingle service at my local church and enjoy pitting decorations up in the house that I have collected over the years and most of all having all three of my children home with me on Christmas Day. Huggles. Ellie :D

that sounds like so much fun. its nice sometimes for people to just get out to do things with others. i keep telling my son that just to go to a book store and browse, maybe have a coffee in there, etc. anything to get him out to meet someone and get out of this rut of just working and hanging around home rest of the time waiting to talk to that dingbat in NY thats supposed to be his gf. i dont do much any more because of my disability but i would go hang in a book store. maybe not go walking around in a maze but if i wasnt disabled id surely love doing it.

My husband and I don’t have anything planned for ourselves as usual but our daughter and her cousin who are the same age are having a horse riding lesson in a couple of weeks as a birthday treat as they birthdays are twelve days apart. They are going to an enclosed arena and the instructor will teach them how to mount and dismount the horse and trot gallop etc.; it should be fun and part of me wishes I could do it too but alas it would be way too expensive to include the adults! My lucky daughter is going to a Halloween disco on Friday night as well; she’s only eight but gets out and about more than I do!

Halloween is now celebrated in this country but when my kids were young it was not done so. We don't really have seasons - just a littler cooler at night in the so called winter. I do hope that your Dad will do something fun with you. If her doesn't go then I hope that a friend will go with you. Blessings

It's funny that you should start this discussion because I went to a fun thing tonight, lol! Our church had the pre bible bowl study for the kids at one of the church members' house tonight at 5:00. Then, we had a fall festival for the adults and kids both at 6:00. That's what I mainly went for. We had things like chilli (not sure if that word has one or two Ls), hotdogs, soup, nachos and cheese, cookies, cakes, soft drinks, tea, etc. These people live in a log house and I love log houses! They also have a big farm with horses, which you know is right up my alley! They also had pumpkin carving for the children but I didn't stay for that. They also had a bungee (not sure if that's spelled right, either) for the children and the children also played games. The children all dressed up in their Halloween costumes and they looked so cute! We also had a hay ride through their farm and I enjoyed that! It wasn't all that scary, though! We just had one spook and that was it. It was still enjoyable, though, such a nice night for a hay ride. I went through a corn maze one time years ago at another church member's house. That was my first time to go through one and it was a lot of fun! We're going to have Trick Or Trunk for the kids after church on Halloween Night, which is where the adults dress up and decorate their car for Halloween, and pass out treats to the children. After that, we're going to have a cookout for the the whole congregation.

Your day sounds like a heck of a lot of fun! Our church has a Trunk or Treat for the kids. It's a good alternative for parents who don't feel comfortable letting their kids go trick or treating anymore. Plus, for people who feel that Halloween is "wrong", then they don't feel guity for attending this. I think Halloween is what you make of it. And I don't see a lot of people worshipping Satan. : )

I left out a word in one of the sentences up there. That was a bungee jump they had for the kids.

I agree with you 100%! I think Halloween is what you make of it, also. I even wore my Halloween shirt that I painted years ago. There is a pumpkin patch not far from where I live but they charge $10.00 per person to go through it. The money goes to a good cause but I just don't have the $10.00 to spare. I really would like to go through it sometime, though.

I was just out with my son yesterday and we were talking about the holidays and how I miss decorating for Halloween since no trick or treater's come by our house. I've decided to cancel all "festivities" this year. I'm the ONLY one in my family who cares at all about decorating, gift buying/making, cooking, etc. Over the last few years, I've been getting so depressed by trying to do it all myself. I used to have my youngest son around to at least help me with what I wanted to do but now he has moved too far away to help me and, since no one else wants to do it, I've simply given up. I would really rather not see the holidays come around now. I'm sure my family, small as it is, will be surprised when I don't begin decorating, cooking or baking cookies or anything else because they've never had a problem ENJOYING anything I've done, they just have an issue with helping me or even caring at all if I'm depressed about doing it all myself. That's tough shiit. I've asked and asked for help but get none so forget it. I may end up going to a friend's house for the holidays and leaving my family here to fend for themselves. As for now, all I know is that the leaves are falling and I'm the one who gets to clean them up. My husband hates yard work and refuses to do any, even when I remind him that I cannot do it all myself. He just tells me to hire someone. He's proven to me just how much (little) he cares about me or anything I care about. I used to love this time of year because we'd go out driving and looking at all the decorations, from Halloween through Christmas. I loved decorating, baking, cooking, the works. But, since no one else cares anymore (or I just realized that they never did care, it was only me), it's really not a nice time around here from October through New Year's.

I'm single, retired and live out in the country. I don't decorate for Halloween, fall, Easter, etc. any more. I still decorate (indoors only) for Christmas, although every year I say I'm not going to. There is a corn maze, pumpkin patches, etc. for the kids in the valley. I've seen several school buses parked there, so the kids are getting out to see them. I was at a party at my neighbors last night...now they decorated!! We had a great time.
