And people wonder why ALOT of the US does not like the UN

The UN is having an open season on the US. The UN human rights council is having a meeting to discuss "issues" of human rights violations in the US. Here are somethings some of things some of the people involved in this coucil meeting as asking for: --The U.S. needs to sign, ratify and implement a wide number of United Nations-sponsored human rights conventions, whatever reservations various U.S. governments or courts have had to them; -- All these treaties and conventions should be “self-executing,” meaning that no subsequent U.S. government action should be required for them to go into effect—regardless of the U.S. constitutional separation of powers, and the separation of powers between federal and state governments; So basically these individuals want us to IGNORE our laws and constitution and just do what the UN wants. They want us to violate our own laws to enforce theirs and hand part of our sovernignty over to them. Some of the other things they are talking about is not all horrible or lies. But alot just goes against our rights as a free country. If you want to read the report here you go: http://www.foxnews.com/world/2010/11/04/united-nations-human-rights-council/?test=latestnews I know..I know..it is fox news...but most news organizations are not reporting on it. So feel free to do your own research. I find it laughable that countries like China, Cuba, Libya and Saudi Arabia want to preach to US about our human rights violations. What do you think? Should we even bother to go to this meeting? Tell again why we are part of the UN?

The UN can suck it. Aren't they too busy giving Ahmanutjob more faux power positions and trying to squash Israel like a bug to try and override America's Constitution? I would think so. But I'm wrong often enough. UN, you can suck it.

This is the same UN that elected Iran to its council on Women's Rights. They can't expect to be taken seriously after that.

The UN does not have creditibility. So why waste our time and money on them.

What needs to be pointed out is that the US withdrew from even an "observer" involvement with the scandalous membership of the UN Human Rights Council. The Bush administration pushed for reform of the way it was administrated and they way members were scrutinized for membership approval. As you rightly note, many members of the UN Human Rights Council are huge human rights violators. It was Obama that got the US involved in this Council once again and then did what Bush steadfastly refused to do - he submitted a report on the human rights violations in the US, specifically citing Arizona and stating that the US DOJ was taking one of its own states to court over the law. The UN is not a useful body when dictatorships and repressive governments can pass judgments on a democratic country like the US. I see no particular benefit to the US in even belonging to the UN. When Ahmadinejad is allowed to stand at a podium and deny the holocaust while raining down epithets on democratic countries, they cannot possibly consider themselves to be any force for good in the world. We need to get the UN out of the US and the US out of the UN. Throw the bums out!

I agree. We need to pull out of the UN (and our money) and then tell them to find a home office in another country. They have to know that by telling us we need to violate our constitution that they were going to tick off a lot of Americans. They do not have any respect for us. They just want our money AND the right to tell us what to do. Do we have human rights issues in this country? Yeah there are some. But we are working on them as a country. The rest of the world needs to butt out.

I think most of us agree, actually I can not think of a single American that thinks the UN has done us ANY good. If there are, I hope they speak up. I would love to see bipartisan support to completely withdraw from the UN and charge exorbitant rent for them to meet here. The fact that the human rights report was even made let alone released to them, in my opinion, is reprehensible.

I agree with that too, but it would be nice if we could recoup a little.

I say we make them leave...why charge them rent when we can withdrawal and tell them to find another country to free load off of.

I wonder why US has reasons to disagree or be unhappy about this. After all when human rights are being violated by any government isn't it the right of every citizen of the world to tell government that they cannot violate human right. Human rights are not given by government, but by virtue belonging to human species human right is given. So government has no right to take it away, whatever it is. If human right watchdog is strong it's the citizens who get protected from government. And since government agency can violate human right,as we have seen it happen again and again, it's important that human right watchdog be given more power. After all no sovereign power of any government should be sovereign enough to violate human right of the citizens. And that applies to China, US, Cuba etc.

It's an irony indeed. However, if US government is doing fairly well those criticisms need not be given serious thoughts. But if UN is undermined by any member then we may have some serious consequences later. If UN is not there China or Iran cannot be criticised either because there won't be any platform then. But absence of such platform will be sad for humanity at large.

I think it may be better to ask back questions on women's right to Iran than withdrawing from the UN. US hosts certain offices of UN,but other countries also host other offices of UN. UN interfering in US affairs is different from US interfering in others' internal affairs. This does not mean I am justifying every action of UN. However, I think whether it's US or any country one should be very careful in interfering in the internal affairs of any country. If at all one needs to interfere it's better to go through UN. The problem, however, is that each country can say that even if it violates human right it can say it's their own internal affair. China has refused to allow UN agency to intervene even on human right saying it's their internal affair. If US pulls out of UN then it would have no right to intervene in the affairs of any other nation. As of now it can do so via UN. But observing non interference policy would greatly undermine US foreign policy. It cannot remain silent on Taiwan, Pakistan, Georgia etc. US global interest would be greatly at stake if it has to remain silent on all these issues.

We started the UN. We did that to try to get people talking after fighting two world wars in thirty years. In 2002 we and Isreal were the only two country's to walk out of the Durbin human rights conference. We have a long history of telling other country's how to behave, yet, we don't show up when the issue is on the table. I hope this is tipically wrong since it is from Fox.

I thought Obama and his administrators were fricking idiots for sending a human rights report to the UN and then I was even more upset when I found out what was in that report. The UN and its councils can take a flying leap in a pile of.... This Administration needs a swift kick...oh, I think they just got one. Now, let's hope they felt it.

I know...I was shocked too when Obama sent that report and what was in it. Especially all the stuff about AZ. That is an American issue and we will deal with it on our own without any foreign interferance. Personally I think the rest of the world should just leave us alone and mind their own business.

I was absolutely stunned over some of the things coming out of this little get together. China, criticizing us on internet censorship. Iran criticizing us on lack of resources dealing with violence against women. Mexico criticizing us over immigration policy. North Korea criticizing us for torture. WTF?! Really???? It's straight our of Alice in wonderland. Pfft. Let em run their mouths. I'd LOVE to see the U.N try to enforce anything here. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let them try. The only problem is they are running their mouths on MY soil and using MY money to do it.
