Out in the Snow

Kathryn had a snow day from school today and that means that she and Paul have been outside playing in the snow all day. They went out at about noon and it is now three in the afternoon and they are still out there. This got me to thinking, I know that I am a bit older now and I don't deal with the snow the way that I used to when I was younger, but I would love to know how long other mylotters are able to stay in the snow before they have to come inside to get warm. For me, I would say that it is about 45 minutes these days. I can go out and build a snowman with the kids or sled for a little while but after that I am done because my joints start to get sore. When you are out in the snow, what do you like to do?

My kids had a snow day today as well. Over 190 schools closed here in Michigan...Anyways, the temp is only 10, and we had wanted to build a snowman, and make some snow angels, but it is much to cold. I think the longest I can stay out in the cold is about an hour...maybe more if I had snow pants and boots :)

I suppose as a kid I must have loved it. As an adult, two seconds is all I can stand. I hate the snow, slush and mush that it brings especially when it is so cold. So I rather still in anytime then go out and play with snow. I loath even going out on errands when it is so cold and wet outside. LOL.. I certainly will feel it more this year then ever, as I am doing independent contracting and have to be outdoors a great deal.

when i was younger and the kids were little, we'd go make snowmen, but before that if there wasnt enough snow yet we'd make snow angels laying down in the snow. i loved the snow when the kids were little. we would stay out as long as we could. it does sound like yours is out a little to long hope they dont catch cold.

I honestly don't remember as I have lived the last 40 years out here in the tropics. No snow our here as yet, thank God. I do remember that I hated being cold but we did not have the right clothes for snow to be enjoyable. We only went out when we had to - like going to the shops for my mother or neighbours and of course school. I don't remember if we made snowmen either although 'she-who must-be-obeyed' is arriving tomorrow so I will ask her. My eldest sister knows everything

Once in a while, when my kids were younger, we wold all go sliding at my mother's house. A few trips up the big hill and I would be ready to come inside....and it wasn't because of the cold, but how big the hill was. LOL We used to snowmobile a lot....and no matter that I wore layers and a good suit, i would always get cold...and swear I would never go again....until next weekend came around. Outside playing with the kids, I never got cold...because I wore my snowmobile suit. good for you to have an afternoon to yourself while there was a snow day and good for the kids to get all the exercise. Merry Christmas.

We don't get snow here - in fact, it's supposed to get in the 80's out here today - can you believe it? But when we do go to the snow, no matter how much or how little there is where we go, it is flippin' freezing to me!!! Last time we went was a couple winters ago - and we found a big patch of snow where people were sledding (otherwise, the rest of the area had melting snow). We have one of those coasters - so we loved using it! We were all layered, but didn't have the right shoes - so our feet were getting numb after less than an hour (as well as the rest of our body!!). I've never been in snow where I could actually build a snowman - I hope we get to do that while the kids are young (maybe later this year??). I will say I love getting hot chocolate AFTER we're done with snow time - hee hee.

About a minute and a half? Naw, I can stay out quite a while if I'm properly bundled up. We usually go up into the mountains to see snow, and the kids like to sled, build snowmen, throw snowballs, etc.

I last about one hour while I am busy with the animals, then I come in with frozen hands and feet. What I want is a nice warm fire and hot drink until I thaw out.

Here we live in the hottest place. Here we cannot see snow, but only thing is that we can see the mist and fog. We have a walk during that time feeling the mist around us.

Little One sledding this year - Little one sledding this year in December. He had a blast.
Dorann- We had a blizzard here in Minnesota over the weekend so we didn't go out much. We've had windchill of -20 so it's not weather I want the little ones in. However, just before it hit we went sledding. We love to take them during the winter, and we also enjoy building snowmen. We typically only stay out about 30 minutes simply because the the little ones. Our daughter when born could not stay warm on her own so we have to be extra careful with her. Namaste-Anora

I'd say about an hour. But that's just because I don't ski or snow board. So, when I'm out in the snow or in the slopes, I could only do so much snowman-making or snow-ball throwing with the kids. I would have to get in after an hour, because I'd be bored, and not for getting sore.

Hi you know that is a good question. I would say about 30 minuts or so . no longer than 45. if you stay for a long time in cold you can get frostbite and that is not good when I was younger I did not stay outside in the cold for a long time because I usaly got sick. winter is not my time of the year, the summer months are . I am not realy a winter person ... brr just thinking about it makes me cold .... c'mon spring !
