Help Wanted

Overnight tonight we are forecast to have a considerable fall of snow - maybe as much as 10" over the weekend. Some of you may know that I am recovering from illness and have started to exercise as a way of getting fit and losing weight. I thought that maybe shovelling snow tomorrow might be a good way to get build up a sweat. However, my exercise book states that men over the age of 45 (I am 52) must not shovel snow as our hearts may not be able to take the exertion. If we do have snow I will need somebody to clear my drive and car please. I promise to watch and shout encouragement from the warmth of the house with a steaming mug of coffee in hand. Any takers? Form an orderly queue please.

Sorry to hear of the severe snow fall you will be having. Unfortunately I am way too far away to go over and help. I have heard about people, exertion and heart failures, especially if they are high risks of heart conditions. So I will be in my cozy living room wishing you all the best. LOL...

Maybe the wind could blow you over? Chicago is the windy city I think! LOL.

hi pikey oh my gosh I thought when I read that first sentence about shoveling snow as exercise oh pikey dont do that, you will get a heart attack,so was relieved to hear you say what you followed up withl I grew up in south Dakota and saw older men collapse so know its not wise as thats a lot of exertion indeed. I would offet to help but I have only one problem I am across the pond from you besides I walk with a quad cane so cannot see me shoveling snow with my left arm that incidentally does not lift up more than half way whild holding onto my quad cane with the right hand.lol. but the thought is there. hope you do get some able bdied person or people to come shovel you out, it is raining here, just pouring and grey and gloomy and chilly too;good day to be inside by a warm fire.

I'll come and keep you company Hatley. Nothing that I like more than curling up beside the fire.

You know, I paid a young man to shovel once last winter, the rest of the time it just sat there and melted, as hubby tends to hurt his back and I had foot surgery and was not supposed to be out doing it. I know that they say that shoveling snow causes a lot of heart trouble.

We have not had any snow yet this year. No need to hire anyone.

Then get your purse out and pay him again. Better that than ending up in the ER!

you are just a young pup of 52... well, then I guess 57 means I'm out of the queue... I'll stand with you, but I'll have hot tea or chocolate instead.

I enjoy any work and can watch it all day. I have to say that if it involves big machines, even BETTER!

I know someone who is moving from California to Arizona simply because Northern California is too cold! LOL. Well a couple of other reasons too.

I am pretty good at shovelling, but I have not shovelled snow for over 12 years, so you may just have to show ME how it is done. If you pay for my travel expenses, I will gladly come and shovel your snow for you.

I can swim pretty good of course as I am an Aussie. We are all fantastic swimmers because we go to the beach everyday! but I do not do cold water, so I would probably get half way and then have to turn around!

Well, I'd happily shovel your snow for you..............as long as I could shovel it into piles and play in it and make snow creatures............I think I'd need to get there by air though, as obviously travel by rail or road is out of the question when there's snow. ;)

Best not to clear the snow. Apparently, if you leave it and someone slips on your drive it's an 'act of god', if you clear the drive and someone slips, you can be sued. That's my excuse for leaving it anyway. Housework is supposed to be good exercise, especially if,like me,you forget to take the stuff you need for cleaning upstairs and spend time running up and down stairs to get it. Take care. Hugs to you.

this is a good remainder. I am 35 this year, hubby is 10 yrs older. I will start helping him shoveling snow and pouring salt from now on. I used to let him do that alone but I think it's time I help, after all if he can't do it anymore it will have to be myself.

You buy my ticket and I'll come over and shovel your snow! Seriously, I could not do it. I'll be seeing a cardiologist soon for my abnormal EKG and was told not to shovel snow. Wouldn't you know, it snowed here and I didn't know what I was going to do then my neighbor brought his snowblower and did his house, mine and our other neighbor's walks! Have you thought of getting a snowblower? Some people call it a snow thrower. You just walk behind it and get some exercise while it does all the work! They're a bit pricey but they last for ten years or more and you won't strain your heart. Stay warm!

In a heartbeat and I'd not expect you to shovel snow either. I have seen snow blowers here but they tend not to be available for the domestic market. I am pleased that you are getting yourself checked over. Actually I am delighted. Take care. I wish you were here so that we could work together. That's not a cheesy chat up line either! LOL.

LOL. In the last heavy snow I saw that some streets got together and moved the snow. Very community bonding apparently.

That wasnt my street then, last year my house and my nextdoor neighbours cleared most of the street to make it easier for us all to drive, one of our neighbours came out, helped for 5 minutes then rubbed his hands together and said he was cold so going in for a cuppa! It actually made us laugh because we had all been out there for a while and he was cold after 5 minutes!

The snow is ice now Gabs. The book says nothing about women at all in this respect. I have a shovel but you might prefer to sit in the warm with me and sup something equally warming! Merry Christmas. XXXX

We get 1-2 inches every 2-5 years. No one shovels it. It's play time. The whole town has a ball. No school for the kids. I'll make a snow ball. I know how. Will that help?

Sorry, I don't do snow. That's one reason I live in Florida. It has been cold here too, but we don't get snow. By the way, I'm 62 and had a stroke last year, so shoveling snow isn't for me. Hope you got thrugh it okay.
