Where do you find your personal space?

finding your personal space - personal space online

I think that with all of the things going on around us, we always struggle to find our own personal space. There would be bosses hovering around us, or tasks hanging on our heads that it sometimes we would find it hard to breath, or express our feelings. Or it would be family, or kids tugging at you all the time that we'd be going at it at different directions. Now comes the internet... I just read an article saying that more and more people are trying to establish their personal space online. They create virtual personas that could be away from all of the people and things that they find annoying. How about you? How much do you value your personal space? Do you find yourself always fighting for it? Or are you part of the few that are virtually parked online with a lot of personal space? And I guess as a follow up questions, what do you fill your space with?

I am so lucky. My job is set up soo that my boss has to find me to hover and she Knows I Know what I am doing so she doesn't have to babysit me. At home I have my own room, my sanctuary. It is my space . I have my T.V. , my VCR, DVD player and my laptop.Online I'm Sarah Ruth Beth, the name I wish I were born with. I'm more myself as Sarah than I could ever be under my legal name. That's what I do with my space, Be My true self.

In a way, my job is like yours. When I go travelling, I don't have any boss hovering. But I can't go travelling all the time. A perfect job would be where I wouldn't see the boss! In a few years, if everything holds up, I hope to be as lucky as you Ms. Sarah Ruth Beth!

I actually find that the only personal space that I have in the entire house is my desk in the office. I can't say that I am away from all of the hustle and bustle of life, but it is my space. It is the one place in the house that everyone else knows that they are not to touch. It is my space and mine alone and if anyone ever touches something on my desk, I will literally go off on them because I don't ask for too much but my little three foot cube in the world.

I think that is the best way to claim personal space. To assign a physical space for it. And if it requires a desk, then all the more visual. And it helps other people respect that space. Thanks for the response!

I find my personal space in my bedroom. I do all sorts of thing there, things which I like. For instance surfing the internet and reading articles related to latest technology advancements, blogs, mylot and lots of other things. And while doing all this I'm constantly listening to my favourite songs. It is actually a golden reprieve from the hectic and closely monitored office day.

Hello kingatul. It is great that you can find time to be alone in your room to do the things that you like, and away from any distractions. Thanks.

I have a huge seperation when it comes to business and my personal space. I think that my facebook is my closet "mix" of the two. I am still very careful to monitor what I put in as a status or even my personal info...pics and such. I like the seperation. I see others that mix it up and deal with a lot of of stuff that could have easily been avoided.

In this day of virtual worlds, I think it takes a great amount of talent to separate the two worlds. And if you're successful, then good on you. Work is just work. And it need not go in to you own personal world, or space. Thanks Jen.

I very much value my personal space because it's the only way that I can escape stress from work and other problems. I think my personal space, as well as my "me" time, are the times when I go home from work. I walk at the walkway connecting four malls near my workplace. So I guess these malls, plus the cafes scattered around the city, serve as my personal space. Sometimes, before I go home, I stop by at one of the coffee shops and take a sip of my comfort drink--a hot Mocha flavored coffee. Or grab a doughnut at Krispy Kremes, or try something new at a cafe or restaurant I haven't tried before. I don't think much whenever I am at my personal space, I just enjoy the feeling of loving and pampering myself. :)

Ahhh! I think I know those four malls you mentioned. And I think I like walking in that area too. I could definitely picture myself in one of the restaurants there! And just having a good time after work. That would be a good personal space for me too!

I did in the past but the this is the beauty of having the kiddos grown.. where as now in my home it is my boyfriend and I. We share a great deal of quality time together but each of us does need our own personal space. We each have own desk and computers, so when one is on the PC we know not to bug the other too much. However, I can be the one to call upon him a great deal, LOL.. as this girl requires a great deal of attention. We do not really have personal spaces per say, as we do a great many outdoor sharing interests. However we are each free to do so if we preferred. Which is the beauty of our relationship that we think as one but value one another enough to know that we wanted to do something we immediately could if we wanted.

Although the father in me would like to have the kids always by my side, I also couldn't wait for them to grow up and have a life of their own. Then they would also appreciate having their own personal space. And then I find myself a relationship like yours!

If you are able to command your own time, and designate your bedroom as your own space, that is great! Specially if nobody dares to bother you, even your hubby. Thanks.

Hello Hatley. To each his/her own. We find our personal space wherever we can. Although a lot go through the internet way, and establish virtual personas, one can also simply make his or her own space through headphones and a favorite music. Just as you did. Happy new year Hatley! Hope you and your son find 2011 a prosperous year.

Hello ebuscat. I understand that personal space is somewhere you don't have to answer to anybody. Just wondering why it doesn't have to include your husband. Thanks.

Hello mahto1000. I think that we can't make space in the real world, we all just resort to a virtual world on the net. Happy new year to you.

hi bounce, being plugged into my ipod and listening to my favourite tunes whilst doing work and stuff provides a lot of ME time. Besides that, delving into a good book and being totally immersed into a different world provides that personaly space too. Yup, being online provides that space too unless I have my nephew looking over my shoulder and watching what i do, haha.

It makes me think that personal space is just in the mind. Even if you're in the same place, as long as you're plugged in, your mind makes the personal space for you. And it is up to you if you fill it with tunes or a good story. Of course, the virtual world does this too. Thanks.
