Just a reefer...

The Boss has bought a new coat for Christmas only she waited until today to do it. She is a very reluctant clothes shopper for herself and sometimes I have to almost plead with her to buy something. This time my parents said that they wanted to buy her a coat for Christmas and she couldn't come up with a good enough excuse to say "no". Are you an avid clothes buyer or do you wait until you absolutely have to buy something? Oh, the coat is a reefer jacket style hence the discussion title.

I looked up that style and it's very smart! Good for her, it's always nice to have something new to start the new year in. I'm a reluctant shopper, as you probably know. I wait until what I have is completely worn out then I find another use for it. I'm not a miser, I just don't see the need to waste any of my resources. (Most men admire that in a woman but one can take it to extremes. I found out recently that my ex grew away from me in part because I did not want him to buy me anything and "waste" money. It made him feel unfulfilled not to be able to give. There are people out there like that so tell the Boss that she is denying you the pleasure you get when you give her things. It's rather cruel but I didn't realize it at the time.)

That's an interesting perspective and one that I have heard before. I always thought that it was because she bought clothes for our daughter (which is handy now as they are both the same size and she wears lots of daughter's clothes) and didn't like to splurge on herself as well. I think that for some women, especially those that stay home to bring up children, they have a sense of guilt becasue they don't bring money into the house themselves. This is understandable but in fact they are usually the person that holds the house and family together and contribute something far more important than money - themselves!

I do love to shop, when I can afford to that is. There are times that I simply buy because I want and feel I deserve to get. I rarely wait until I absolutely need, as I like to have things readily available. I do attend a great many events, with having an actor boyfriend so I like to make sure that if a last minute invite comes in that I have something fabulous ready to wear on hand.

Those Oscar gowns eh? Women often complain that they have to wear something different every time whereas msn can get away with just a suit or tux. On the other hand we like our ladies to look good. Happy shopping.

I hate shopping of any sort. I need a new coat and looked in 2 shops when I was in town, couldn't find what I wanted so gave up. I rarely buy myself new clothes unless it's really necessary. Anyway each time I look for clothes for me I see something that one be nice for one of the girls or one of the boys but never anything I really like for me. last time I went to get myself something Mr Croc ended up with new 'jamas.

I'm not much for clothes, either, and yet, I seem to have too many... how can that be?

Maybe you are a clothes magnet. They are attracted to you and just..... hop off the rack into bags and into your hand.

oh Pikey that should really be pretty on her as its a very stylish coat. I love to clothes shop myself sadly as I spend more than I should. my mom was like your boss, she would buy new coats for me and my younger sister but not for her self lol.wish i was a little more like my mom. I have more tops than I really need but love to have something new and stylish occasionally. Vanity thy name is woman I guess as at my age I still love to look good and feel good about myself too.I bet your wife really looked great in her new coat. That is one thing I have put off and with this winter so much colder than usual I re ally need something warmer than a sweater.lol.I think with me its the cost but feeling warm again might give me the needed nudge. lol

Like the majority of shopping, I detest clothes shopping. And the very worst sort is when you have something specific that you are searching for, a pair of black trousers for instance. In that case, nothing is right. They don´t fit, they´re too long, too short, too trendy, too dowdy ... I´m a very easy size and shape to buy clothes for, so I can´t imagine how difficult and frustrating it must be for someone who isn´t! Thankfully, I don´t have to wear anything smart day to day so can get buy with the scruffy old work clothes I have day after day. Warmth is more important than style at the moment and I have on layers and layers of horrid old jumpers donated by a neighbour! We don´t have charity shops or clothes donation bins around where I live and a couple of my neighbours have realised that I´m not at all embarrassed or offended by being offered their cast offs. Suits me :-) I´m worrying a little though. I´ve been asked to be a godmother in a month or so and will have to find something respectable to wear. Eek! I´m not actually sure that I own any decent shoes these days. Wellies, work boots, crocs or trainers. Which do you think would look better in church?

Ooh now you could have lots of fun. As it's a smart do you'd better the sweater with the least number of holes in as a skirt and another one as a top. Then I think that crocs are the answer. No peep toe but a little aerated. Warm and dry if it rains. I have a not too disreputable sweater that shrunk in the wash and a black skirt (not mine but the child's from one of her waitressing jobs) that I could send if you're really in need!

Don´t you worry. I´m unpicking and reknitting the sweaters into a tube dress and fluffy slippers.

I have never been an avid clothes shopper because I dislike it but these last dozen years I have needed to buy clothes because of my weight gain. The trouble is, I rarely go out, then only shopping or to meetings. I wear rags around the house basically so I'm always in a quandary. I have lots of nice new clothes that either don't fit me or I can't wear 'em cos I don't go anywhere.

no idea what a reefer jacket is... and when I want to buy something I will go shopping, but most of the time, I'm just not that into it I mean, how can I beat a PURPLE jacket? Really?

I used to be seriously into purple when I was a teenager. These days I'd just end up looking like a big blueberry! See Fjaril's response below if you want to see what a reefer jacket looks like.

Here we call that style a pea coat. I have one I don't know if it fits anymore though... I don't buy too much of anything unless I have to buy something because of a special occasion or I wrecked something in my wardrobe, OR it's a deal I couldn't walk away from you know something on clearance for a dollar or two that you'd wear.

It's so cold here that a smart and warm coat is essential. I haven't heard it described as a pea coat - another description for my lexicon.

Hm, well I don't go clothes shopping for no reason, but if I see something I like, I may buy it even though I don't need it.
