I have been taking a writing course in college this year and we were required to write a short story for children. I thought that it would be fairly easy, but it turned out to be kind of hard. I found it difficult to try and make sentences that only children would understand. I was so used to internet lingo and writing essays. I think it was a great change. I learned a lot from this short story. I chose to write about 2 dogs that are sisters and they went to the dog park. Sounds sappy but it turned out cute. Do you think you could write a childrens story?

In order to write children's book, I guess you have to be one. Maybe you should take some time to spend with little children and then you would start to think likethem and know what's on their mind. That should help.

I thought of writing a children's book too before. And then I realize that there are other things to it aside from a simple story. Like it has have a moral lesson somewhere, and simple enough for children to understand. And it being simple, it would be difficult to make it different from all the books that's already out there.

I'm hoping to do so one day. I've always wanted to write children's books, because I still love reading them. I used to write them. Never published or anything, just did it because I liked to. But, lately writer's block and other factors seem to have dried up my ability. Still, I'm hoping to kick start it so I can get back in the groove. One thing I know, it's not easy. Not if I want to write something good. Even a simple story deserves the best effort.

Personally, I don't think that I could write one. It's not so much that I might not want to, or anything like that. I think that it's more that I don't have many ideas for a children' book, and I'm not even sure how I might approach it.

it is indeed hard. one has to have a deeper understanding of what children will listen to or take interest in. the mechanics maybe simpler to learn but it is how to get the children's attention. very different actually from what we adults see. good luck to you!

A couple of years ago I took a course on writing for children. I feel that I could write children's stories if I really sat down and just did it. For me its usually making the time. Cause I have started many stories. In the course I took it covered writing for the beginning reader to the young adult. She suggested reading in the children's genre you would like to write for, to get an idea of how stories flows. To get an idea of how they are structured.

I don't think so. You'd really need to think like a child and to understand what children today like and I honestly have no clue about that. I suppose also that it depends on which age group you are writing for and I'd agree with you that it'd certainly be challenging.

Hmm.. I am too violent I don't think I could write a children's book. I tend to agree with all the responses, is not only challenging but you have to think like a kid and make sure that other kids would understand your story. I think is even harder to write a children's book than to write a romance novel or horror. I guess I would have to spend some time reading children's book in order to figure out if I really can, somehow, I doubt it.

I think I can if given the opportunity. I also took up a course regarding children's lietrature and I was really challenged by the whole subject. More specifically, I was kinda both excited and challenged. The most difficult thing I encountered was when I was considering my audience and how would the book appeal to them. It is hard to 'read' children' nowadays as they become more sophisticated and recognized as consumers in society. I finished my story and my teacher told me that I need to improve it a little more to get it right. Anyway, I might publish the story if I have free time.
