I love this city! We went there for the New Year recently. It was so cold but it is ok. I like walking around Taipei even when it is cold. On the first day, we just checked in at our hotel, the Sunworld Dynasty Hotel. It is quite old but very nice hotel. It is a good thing that the concierge are mostly Filipinos. So they were happy to assist us in anyway possible. On our first day, we just tried their MRT's to roam the city. And it was a pleasing experience. Then we proceed to the Taipei Flora International Exhibit. If you love flowers, you definitely have to go there. I think it is open until March 2011. You have to spend the whole day just to explore the whole expo. After that, I led my companions to a bizarre treat for dinner. We ate at the Modern Toilet Restaurant. It is a restaurant that has furnitures and utensils in the likeness of anything you see in the CR. It was so cool that is if you can stand eating on a toilet bowl. But surprisingly, the food was delicious. The following day we just had a city tour in the morning. We went to the Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall, Presidential Palace, Martyr's Shrine, National Museum and a souvenir shop. I like them all especially the National Museum. Too bad that we only have an hour and a half to tour the museum. They say that it is one of the best museums in the world. It would take you months before you finish to see all the artifacts. We went to Taipei 101 for lunch. We wanted to eat at the top of Taipei 101 to have a good view of the city. Unfortunately, it was closed since it was 2:30 already. Lunch closes at 2 pm. So we just decided to eat at the food court. hehehe... After lunch we just window shopped at the Taipei 101 mall and at 6 pm , we decided to go to the Shilin Night Market. By the way, we were waiting for the New Year Countdown at Taipei 101. But since it was too early, so we decided to go around first. After that, we had dinner at the Din Tai Fung restaurant, one of the best restaurants in Taipei if you want authentic Chinese food. You should make a reservation though because the line is always long. That is if you don't want to stand so long waiting. Then after that we watched the fireworks at the Taipei 101. It was beautiful. The whole tower was enveloped with fireworks. Amazing! The next day, off we went to Sun Moon Lake. A must see if you want a calming trip. Though you must stay there for a night or at Taichung to really appreciate it. By bus, it will take you 3 hours to go there. The lake was so clean and clear and the whole view was serene and majestic. I can stay there for a week just to destress. We also went to a pagoda on top of a hill to have a magnificent bird's eye view of the lake. And just in time for sunset. Awesome!!! After that we head for Taichung for the night and city tour the following morning. At first, I was thinking that Taichung was just a rural town. When we arrived there, I was shocked. It was as big as Makati and Ortigas combined complete with the malls and high rise buildings as offices and condos. Their roads are even wider and clean. It was so cool! As if I wanna work in that kind of environment. So peaceful and yet so progressive. The following day, we had the tour of Taichung before heading back to Taipei. For lunch, we had street food from the market. Yummy! In the afternoon, we decided to go straight to Beitou to have a taste of their famous hot springs. If you love hotsprings, go to Beitou. It is the nearest from Taipei. Will cut my story short. hehehe... I hope you got some ideas how beautiful Taipei is. As for Alishan, I was not able to go there but I am planning to go back for that. To check for affordable rooms, try booking.com or agoda.com. Even the cheap hotels in Taiwan are ok and clean. Try to find hotels in Songshan, Xinyi or Da an districts. So hope you enjoy your visit there!

I used to work in a travel agency. We sometimes use the site for our clients. So far, we didn't get any complains from our guests.

I am a Canadian who toured East Asia with family members in 2006. We flew from San Francisco to Taipei, and from there to Ho Chi Minh City. we spent 3 weeks on the tour, and enjoyed it very much. We were in Taiwan four days on the return trip. Taipei is a very busy and crowded city. The streets are clean but the air is very polluted. When the wind blows off the ocean the air is much easier to breathe. WE went shopping in an under ground shopping mall. We stayed in an apartment which belonged to the American Company where my son was employed. Taipei has much traffic, and many cars. Before you can buy a car in Taipei, you must have proof of paid parking.Taipei has many American restaurants, and the food there is good.
