Something to think about

I was sitting here thinking there are 365 days in a year, so if you put away a dollar for 365 days at the end of the year you would have $365.00!! I think I am going to do it!!! Have you ever thought about that? Well I am going to do it starting Today since today is the first but I would have to add $31.00 to put away because I missed January the start of the new year!! What do you think? Will you do this too? Do you think it is a good ideal?

Now that is so simple and so obvious that it has to be worth a try! I am going to do one better and put away one €uro every day so that at the end of the year I will have €365 - which is more than you will have They will come in useful for next years gifts or for the end of year sales

Yes we can use it for Christmas next year!!! Where are you are you in the U.K.? I know the money is different over there but when I worked in this call center before they shut down we had to sell things to the U.K. and I always got confused because they would have to keep explaining to me what $500 euros were and I could never understand it!

No, I am in Italy and here we use €uros. In UK they don't use them (yet). They still use pounds sterling (£). Both are worth more than dollars. I think the best way to understand another currency is to go there and use it. The same as learning another language I suppose.

I've heard of people doing this before.. but no, I've never done it before. I don't really need to anymore since I don't really use my money and it goes to my savings anyway. But let us know how it goes for you! You can spend it for Christmas or New Years next year. Good luck.

I had a math teacher in high school who said start on day one and save a penny and double the number each day saving that amount and you would end up a millionaire when done. I do not recall the length but it was a relatively short amount of time and quite a nice way to retire. Namaste-Anora

I would also add to your saving a dollar a day to stick that dollar in a money interest account and then see what you have at the end of the year.

As they say, you cant create a million if you don't have a cent. So keep on saving until you achieve that million dollar goal. hahaha...

Hello mate What a great saving idea, if you can afford it then it is a great way to do the savings. But what even better for you could be would be to go down to your bank and open a savings account where you store the money. Because then you also gain the interest... Just having the nice money in the pot at home will not gain you extra :D Back when I was still working, what I did was to put away $1 for every hour I worked. This $1 was then once a month when my paycheck came put on my personal retirement fund... So if you work 8 hours 5 days a week it would be $40 every week towards your pension :D

That's actually a pretty good idea. It's really clever. I'm not sure why I didn't think about doing. It's always worth a shot for you to try.

Hiya JH, Good idea that one. It is worth a try and if you put your mind to it you can do it and more if you really want to try. But I am spending it on myself this time. As I always spend it on everyone else before myself. This Year it´s going to be all for me. Good luck with yours it´s just a matter of putting the Money away and not being tempted to take any out of it or "borrowing" from it either. There are ways around that to stop you dipping into your "savings". Try 1.50 a Day and see how that one works out for you. All the best.

This is a very good idea and it's not new to me. Years ago we used to put coins in a jar. You can save some money and you think that you can use them to make yourself a present. But you have to stick to your decision and sometimes it's not easy to do it. I've started this in the past but every time I was forced to use the money for something urgent and before to accumulate the desired sum.

It is a good idea, but I'm not doing this. The temptation to use something that is available is always there. So I better make sure that it is beyond my reach. This is a good practice we can do for our kids to learn savings. Maybe we can entice them to put some loose coins from their allowances in a piggy bank. You can match what they have at the end of the year so they can buy something for themselves at Christmas. Or better yet open them a junior savings account. You can also coordinate with your local bank account, if they have this auto-savings facility. Where a portion of your monthly salary is being transferred to a savings account. So you are at least saving without actually noticing it.

You have a good point jahernandezrivas about saving up a dollar every day for 365 days. From where I come from 365 pesos at the end of the year is way too small. But I am still saving up but not this way. Thank you for posting.

Well I know what pesos are and maybe you could put more than that away?

I've been practicing that for quite some time already. Setting aside a fixed amount daily. But I do it on a monthly basis. At the end of month, I deposit the amount in my savings account. Then I start over again. It's really a good way of saving money.

Of course, I think it is a great idea. However, come Christmas time I might would be getting my stash out earlier, because that would tremendously help. I had never thought about this. I have thought about building a Christmas fund, but to actually put back a dollar each day faithfully makes that fund more do-able

good idea. i was thinking about this too in jaunary i going to do it but its hard for a person like me whos 20 years old to get a dollar a day. Also think about the same thing execept putting 1 cent each day you would end up with $3.56

Oh I always say that to myself every new year and to date i haven't really started doing it.It sure is a good idea but I do not know the reason why I can't do it. :)
