What age do you think is really old?

When I was a kid at the age of 10yrs old I thought that my parents were really old. Now that I am past the age of fourty (and a grandmother to boot), I still feel like I'm 40...in my mind perhaps, but not in body. I like doing all kinds of things that I did back then...but how old do you look upon old, as being "too" old? cd

Hello to you! I don`t think it has to be a specific age to think that it is old. It depends on the way that you feel at that age. I am 24, and sometimes i feel i am so old, because i am getting sad and sick of this routine. But if you have a life full of activities, and you are an energic person, you can feel young when you are 70 too. It depends on the way that we feel, in my opinion. I don`t think the way we look it has to have so much importance.

Depends on how old you feel in your mind. You can be 90, for example, but if you're healthy and willing to live, you can never feel old and continue doing what you like to do when you were 20 or 40, or even 60. You can even fall in love at that age, no matter how weird it sounds. It's all in our minds and as long as we are feeling young, we may never feel old, which is very important if we cherish our life and need to leave a legacy behind.

I sincerely wish it to you, crazydaisy! I've always admired people who feel young and act according to this feeling, and do not care what people think. As long as you're happy this way, you should keep feeling it! Have a long and happy life!

Ive used to wonder about this subject myself. When i was younger i used to think like you that people in their 30-40 was old. Until i reached that age. Now at 55 i just think the different stages in life we go throught are just different than before. Grandma is better than being mom. Im not a great grandma yet but it may be even better than grandma. My oldest granddaughter is 16 so hopfully it wont be for at least 5 more years or more. Im not saying that because of me but for her. Its hard to have kids so young. Of coarse when i was 20 i thought it was perfectly fine. Now i believe age to be a thing of the mind. I live near the mountians and seen 87yr olds sking. Something i would not do coz i hate snow.

You look like one of those youthful chick-a-dees they talk about. I think 40 is the beginning of getting old. But you are only as old as you feel. Used to be we didn't live as long as we do now so age was different then. I think that 60 is todays 4o and 80 can be today's 60. So if someone is 20 and acts 10 they can still get away with it. Hehehe

Hi cd, Age is just a number to me and YES, my bith citificate lies (or am I really that old!). I adapt my life to the company I am in, realising that when I am with my parents I have to do the things that they can at their age. But, when with my nieces and the younger set, then it is time to go out on the town, dance the night away and party. I am lucky to still have pretty good health on my side and try to live life to the full (but not be a burden on the youngsters). As my mother always says, "Son, I don't think you will ever grow up!" But what actually is growing up...at a certain age giving up on living and letting life pass one by. For me, no thanks!

Yeah, if we keep showing the youngster how fit we are and game for anything, they will be less likely to fear old age themselves. Peer pressure can make people feel old too, as they surround themselves with friends of the same age r older they forget to have fun and live. Life is for living and as yet, there is nowhere that I have read that says at 50 I should have stopped living, laid down and given up. Keep living it up with your eternl spirit!!

Hello crazydaisy. I like you as a kid thought my parents and grandparent were old and didn't know any thing. When i got into my twenties old had move about 20 years and I found out they did know a few things after all. Entering my 40s I noticed that %0 didn't seem as old as it used to. Now in my 60 even 80 doesn't seem as old as it used to. 80 use to seem ancient but the closer I get the younger it seems. Some how as I age old keeps changing.

I'm 66 and some days are really hard because I also have RA and have been dealing with it for over 30 years. Getting old really sneaks up on you. It seems like you can move easily and nothing can stop you. Then one day it is harder to get out of bed or to open a simple jar or bottle. Then you look in the mirror and sudden you see a stranger looking back at you.

I just thought about your question and realized that at this point in my life, I have a seventeen year old--at the same age, my mom had two children aged five or younger! It's hard to wrap my head around some days when I think about my baby growing up and getting ready to start HER life!

One's perceptions and ideas change as they get older. People of different ages will have different ideas. I don't think in terms of "old" anymore because the connotation is "decrepit" or "used up". I like to think more in terms of "aged". Once I thought someone around 100 was very old but now I think of them as "aged". My dad is going to be 98 in June. He is becoming frail and yes, he's aged but he's my dad.

Age is merely a concept of the mind. It is natural for a child to think of their parents as being old. Like you, I thought the same. Now that have OUT-LIVED my parents...I feel younger, though at times, it does give me pause. I'm not ashamed to admit it. A person is only as old as they WANT to be...not necessarily, as they are. Also...it is OK for an adult to behave in a manner that is "child-like"...just as long as it doesn't develop into something, "child-ish". cdrxo

You've "hit the nail on the head", with your first statement. Knowing, and understanding the DIFFERENCE between these two behavior patterns, is paramount! If you're not sure of how to tell them apart, then perhaps it's time to get out your Transactional Analysis book, and read it over again. ...just a suggestion, you understand... cdrxo

That is really a hard question to answer to be truthful with you. Being old is merely something that is decided by the mind. Therefore if you think that an age is old, then you are really old. The mind tends to distort a lot of things about perception and it really allows you to determine your own capabilities based off of age. Therefore, really who is to know what being old? I think that if a person has really not been able to do many of the things that they are able do and are pretty much confined to a bed or barely able to move, then that could very well be considered to be old. However, if you are like ninety or so for example and are still active(and able to be), then you are young as you want to be. Therefore age depends on the person.

DEFY your age. No offense to you, when I look at seniors, I feel so sad. Don't feel like going further. I responded to a thread that has to do with age. Age is just a number that lots of time any individuals have been judged and stereotyped. For example, if you are 60 and a teenager would say "Eww, you're old". It's not wrong to say that nor it is really disrespectful. It's just how many people tend to think of age and how it is supposed to be. In the future, you can call 18 year olds 'kids'. You can do it nowadays. If you just turn 20, don't call yourself an adult. Call them teenagers. 30s and 40s are and will be the new 20 somethings. Hey, I am not predicting. It seems like things are evolving and so are people.

You are as old as you feel! So in saying that, I don't consider any age to be old unless that's the age you really feel. I may be 46 years old but doesn't mean I think like a 46 year old. I can still clown around like a fool or do some things that I did when I was a kid and love it. I'll never grow up in my mind. Maybe in my body but never in my mind.

I feel the same. I think you are as old as you want to be. Sometimes my body feels quite old but my mind does not. Maybe the mind is fully mature at 40 and just keeps growing rather than ageing. We might get sick and forget things but we know longer think of ourselves as old just as whatever we want to be.

Age is only a number on a birth certificate. 30 is the new 40 - 40 is the new 50 and so on... If you take care of yourself, both physically and mentally, age matters not a jot. I know people in their 60s who are studying full time, those in their 70s who run marathons. My mom is 57 and looks much year than she is through keeping fit and eating well. She stills wears her bikini on the beach and has good attitude towards life.
