I really thank God I escaped with just a bang on my back and a slight bump on my head. Both were very mild .I escaped some sprain or fracture but I do not know how. Of course there was this initial shock but I recovered soon and giggled and managed . I still cannot figure out how and why it suddenly happened. I was standing on the kitchen stool and trying to take something from the cupboard because there was some clutter and I wanted to reorganize a bit. So much for my reorganizing! Please share your own experiences- have you ever fell and felt like an idiot?

Oh my! I'm glad you are fine. I haven't fallen from a stool or ladder. Very very careful about such stuff and always have someone around when I climb up. But I've fallen on the road running for a bus when I was 17....and I felt like a complete idiot then esp. since a male cousin (who was with his gang of enggineering college friends) happened to witness the episode....and besides the hurt knee there was a bigger bruise to my ego :P

Gosh...escalators are dangerous too...and now they have the ones without steps too. Not only did my cousin go on and on about it....he informed the WHOLE family(we are part of a huge family) about how I fell. He didn't even come to my help and pretended he didn't even know me!!

Your cousin would have gone on and on for quite some time after that I guess.I was really lucky; strangely around that time my mother fell down an escalator[just one step] and at her age of 82 it is even more risky.Luckily she too escaped broken bones.

Kalaji The worst accident i faced was in 1986, it was scooter accident, my left hip bone was shatterd to several pieces, i lay on bed for 8 months wearing a plaster cast from chest to toe There was another in 1962, i was fixing a ceiling fan, the ceiling was 12 feet high, i kept a table and over it a stool, i was holding the fan with left hand, while putting the bolt in the rubber groove with right hand, there was slight imbalance, i fell not on floor but on the bed near by, it had 4" foam mattress, there was no frature, but pain lasted for a week Take some pain relievers if you really need Thanks for sharing Cheers. God bless you, have a nice day ahead. Professor ‘Bhuwan’. .

Thank GOD That mattress was nearby. But the impact would have been terrible and thta was the cause for the pain. THe first experience of yours is sucha nightmare ; that too happened when you were in service and it would have caused so much of your work to suffer. THanks Professor for dropping by. How is your health now?

I am really glad that you did not get hurt any worse. Stools can be very dangerous things to stand on because they are so small and easy to tip because of a redistribution of weight. If you say reached up a bit the stool may have slid and you fell so quickly you had not noticed it.

Thank you soemcowgirl for the kind response. My husband said precisely the same thing but with the added one of my getting fatter and that I need a real huge plank to distribute my weight on it.

I must have mentioned a couple of times here about the road accident I had a few years ago and by the time I got on my feet I realised I was losing my balance but physiotherapy put me back and in between this I did slip a couple of times but did not hurt myself much.

Now I remember. I sent you that article and I gave it the title 'Happy Moments' and yet you say that mine was a terrible experience!

Incidentally, you had sent me the article you had written for a magazine or so[If I remember right] but I am not aware of the title 'Happy moments'. I guess the happy moments are in hindsight ; your happines is obviously from the sense of gratitude and well being that have arisen from your strength of character and GOd's grace that made you withstand it all.I would definitely call it a terrible experience. I may have writtent he same to you too[normally I am consistent in my response to sucha situation].

At your age, these kind of falls could get serious. Please be more careful in future. And yes, I know what you are talking about. I have had such falls too and hoped that no one has noticed it. Most of the time, nobody did. so I was spared of the embarassment of having to explain to them. But now, I am extra careful because my daughter keeps spilling water or some other liquid on the floor and as it is hardly distinguishable on the floor, I have to always look down and walk.

Yes devi! Actually I did not think it was such a big ordeal to climb oo teh stool.I normally do it; I don't know what happended yesterday.I had plenty of things to do and must have been in a hurry.I would ahve lost attention I guess due to my preoccupation. But it was such a foolish thing to do.I thank GOd, I was lucky.

Oh my God!Is theer some blood clot on her feet? Ask her to give an icepack.I am not eyt 60 but I am past menopause [54 to be precise] and it is not good to fall .We stand a chance of getting broken bones easily. Does your sister stasy in teh same place as your parents then? SINCE she is going to work, the responsibility is your mother's I guess. Are you planning to go there for delivery and when is it?

My mom is 60 years old and she dropped the stone used for crushing ginger-garlic, on her toe yesterday and she was in a lot of pain. I was reminded of you and was thinking the same - thank god that nothing serious happened! She is in a hurry most of the time because she has to cook and then take care of my sister's daughter who is 1 1/2 years old.

I watch an old man falling down from a bike a week ago and pitiful no one help instead laughing at him. I don't understand why such incident was a joke to someone else. Think if their own father or mother fall down, how's their feel, are they still laughing?

Hi Kala! I am sorry to hear that you fell from the stool and I can imagine how painful and nerve wrecking it could be just after the fall. Hope you are better now and would soon replace the mischievious stool, who made you fall.. Once I was paining the kitchen door and to paint it from the top, I climbed on a wooden stool (which was not very strong) and as soon as I started paining I fell down and the entire paint came out of the container and my face also got painted through the painting brush. At that moment, I was much worried about the expensive paint rather than my own injury.. After that I made sure that if I am standing on a wooden stool either someone should be there to hold it or it should be strong enough to carry my weight. Have a nice day!

THe stool is one which I climb on to on a daily basis Deepak!I don't know how it happened.. Your experience is something I can understand. Once we know that no bones are broken or no serious injury has happened, we naturally curse ourselves for wasting the paint.

I am so glad you were not hurt. Well everyone feels embarrassed in taking a fall, but the truth is most people do fall down from time to time. So it is just a good thing when they are not injured.

THanks drannh! I am also very grateful I escaped with nothing.Later I came to know that my mother fell down an escalator around the same week. We all semmed to have attracted some odd thing. It is a very good thing that no serious injury was there. She is 82 and the risk is even greater.

I have had my share of tumbles, mainly ar work place as I am in construction industry. Work sites generally tend to be clutters and if one is not careful, it can be a disaster. The worst fall I took was at Dadar station in Mumbai, Rush hour crowds can be a killer for the non mumbai people. Fortunately the local train was stationary and I was dragged out of harm's way by ever co-operative people of Mumbai.

Yes I do it very often. I already have a problem in my knees. But I never visit the doctor t solve the problem. Other than that my shoes. I often have falls because of my shoes. Even on the roads. when I have falls I quickly get up and say to myself, "I am a mother of two children. I can't be sick or hospitalized. Every thing is OK to me". After tellint this to me I go away.

Hi kala, thank god you escaped with some minor shock and bump ! I have had several experiences where I slip in the garden over wet spots and limp around for a few days etc...But honestly, one needs to be careful because after a certain age we cannot carry on being the same as before and also we get bruised far more easily since we start becoming unsteady...Take care kala and how is Bombay( hope there are no shivsenas around )It is really warm here in mangalore..

This is what we call Accident(s).Last week I had to go in a house in the area and I asked the people whether the dog was in the dog house, they said YES,,it was normally in the dog house, but the smaller dog was outside,,nobody guessed that the small dog was equally dangerous. That small one grabbed my leg,(OUCH!!!) , I knew for sure I had been bitten,,Only once in the past I had a chance to play with the smally,so it did not recognize me,,Thank GOD it was not too bad,,but accidents ARE accidents,,TAKE CARE( I never know how much is enough CARE).

But, though not 14 I am sure you would definitely need an anti rabbies isn't it?
