reduced or eliminating soda from your diet

Another discussion got me thinking about this. That soda is one thing I have pretty much given up on drinking. Don't get me wrong I do have it as a treat when we go out to eat maybe once a month or so if finances allow. I do keep a small stash in my basement for when I work late shift as I am so used to going to bed at an earlier time it's hard for me to function for one rare night every couple weeks getting a late shift. But I have been good and have not even had one for that reason just sucked it up and did my best. I also don't have much soda around because it is addicting IMO; it becomes that go-to drink instead of water or milk. My kids behavior gets bad over it because if they know it's in the house they DEMAND it and put up a fuss I don't feel is necessary. And I was having some issues with pains in my chest area I thought was to an ill fitting bra or ??? and the Dr said to try eliminating caffine along w/ a new bra style. Plus I don't need the empty calories as I am just trying to keep it at a plateau or go down in weight/size. Has anyone else eliminated or reduced their consumption of soda? Was it for health reasons? empty calories? expense?

I quit drinking pop about ten years ago as part of a weight loss plan and I've not gone back to it. For one thing, it doesn't quench my thirst for long but makes me thirstier. For another, it takes a gallon of water to make up for the damage it does to your body. I drink water and occasionally a no-calorie iced tea mix. Water is the best!

That is true there's something about it that makes you thirstier and you don't even think about how much you are drinking and the empty calories.

My vote is for this one, limiting or eliminating soda from our diet is going to be beneficial to our health. As processed foods roll out the market and our fast phase way of life pressures us to indulge to them we get lesser and lesser life expectancy rate as per survey's result. Soda may be one contributing factor of diabetes and the diseases cases reported corresponding to high sugar diet continue to sky rocket a wake up call is needed for us to choose a healthier diet regiment.

That is another concern of mine too. Is that I have diabetes on atleast one side of the family and my kids have it on both sides. I know I hear them holler for it but unless it's a treat cause we're out and about they have water, 100% juice, or milk. And honestly if you look in your pantry anything that is processed usually contains some form of corn syrup.

I will admit that I have not been able to completely eliminate soda from my diet and I don't know that I will ever be able to do that because my parents allowed myself and my siblings to have soda when we were children, so I've been hooked for years. However, I have significantly reduced my consumption of soda. The reason that I've done this is because I am working on losing all of the extra baggage that I have on my body and this has been a great help in that direction.

Sadly corn syrup is in almost everything you buy now days. Hard to avoid especially if you can't afford to go organic or ????

It happened to me,I can not eat without it most especially when it is too hot. It is really addicting. As you eat you're burping thought you're full but truth is you have just taken so little food to actually satisfy your hunger pang. I stopped taking it when I quited my job and so got no more budget for it, but it took time for me to actually take it off my system. It was completely eliminated from me when I got pregnant and found out that my sugar level is not acceptable and if not monitored it may unbearably go up. Afraid of losing my life for a kid just coming out, I did quit.

Drinking soda was a huge luxury for me in the early years. We NEVER had it as a kid, we never went out to eat anywhere to order it and once in high school..that is where it was a luxury. Only had it on dates! I'll never forget, I offered to type a theme paper for my boy friend and told him I would charge him a case of Fanta Red soda! He worked at a gas station so they bought it all the time for there, so he bought me a case of it and I typed his paper! Talk about the Deal of the Century!! I thought I had made it! But later...soda was common. However, I did start drinking diet for the calories issue, but at the same time...no addicted to it. I am addicted to ice tea! always have been! So I don't really drink soda anymore because one..the calories...and two the acid and three, fills me up so fast, I end up not eating all my meal! I also didn't drink the regular cause it is just to sweet as opposed to the diet. Now...I hardly ever drink soda and even the diet is terribly sweet to where I can't hardly stand it! I am a tea drinker. No calories, some caffine but mostly water. Works for me!

Yeah soda is pretty much more harm then good, and yet It's such an addicting thing to drink I can't help picking it up and drinking it myself. In fact, guess what is sitting beside me? A sprite! I do like water and need to pick up flavored water packets so that I can have a bit of a different taste when I'm tired of the sam eold soda.

I only drink soda once in a while when we are out dining in fast food chains but at home I always prefer fruit juices. When I was in college, I used to drink around two 500 ml. of soda drinks and my waist line was more than 30 inches so I decided to trim down my soda consumption.

I used to work as an overnight staff in a residential treatment facility for about 7 years. I also picked up extra shifts to 50 to 60 working hours on average week. For sometime for how long exactly, I came in to shifts with different types of energy drink. I was thinking that I'm not going to be healthy or I would be ruining my health working in this job on and on. Then back to about couple years ago, I started feeling discomfort around my tooth, something told me that I need to drop energy drinks. So, I switched to Coke, LOL. A 20 oz bottle lasted me two shifts (10 hours each). I'm no longer at the job and I haven't touched any energy drinks for about two to three years now, but I still drink soda few times a week as a treat. Taking soda consumption in the US, I don't know the statistics, but many people are not living healthily. There are certain amount of population who drink Coke or any soda everyday, even if a person is not working any graveyard shifts. It shows on TV, movies and media portrayals: I've seen a moment like this. "I'm thirsty, can I get a soda (coke)?" The lady is about to drive away and he offered the attendant, "I'm getting a Coke, do you want any?" (This is a moment where a lady has her car checked at a mechanic. She could instead get a bottle of water.) We are constantly being influenced, fed, encouraged to consume (hint: soda commercials, vending machines, etc) It seems like when people are thirsty, some people tend to look for flavored drinks/beverages. They don't care about water, while it is cheap and necessary for everyone. I wonder if kids nowadays are being taught the importance of drinking water both at schools and through their parents. I prefer to have soda with pizza and when I eat at restaurants. I don't need to indulge in it everyday, just few times a week as a treat or on the weekends.

I don't use soda. When I was in school or college, I think I have used just like that as there was a soda making factory nearby the college and the workers used to give it for free of cost. But I don't like the taste and only what I enjoyed was to extract the gas after the gulp of soda water. However, I don't like the taste and I think I have not used it for the last 13-15 years. Thank-s

I use to drink a lot of soda not because I like how it taste but because it was like the normal thing that we order back in high school. It was almost like a routine. Buy pizza and buy a soda with it. There was a time though that I did not drink any soda at all for months and when I tasted it the first time it was almost too acidic. I don't know but it was uncomfortable to drink it. I realized that I did not like soda to begin with. I think you should do that. First limit your self to it then slowly eliminate it totally. It is better for you to get rid of it in the long run.

What I've done is just cut down on soda, instead of driving it all the time I only drink a few glasses of diet coke a day. I can't seem to even force myself to drink water unless I'm exersizing. I can only drink milk in my cereal or if I'm eating chocolate cake or oreos lol. I also drink coffee, so mainly coffee and diet coke throughout the day. But I'm not too heavy on the diet coke, I've cut down and I do feel better about it. My doctor told me I shouldn't drink so much, oh and I do drink orange juice, with my vodka ha.

That's how I used to be about drinking water. But after having my kids and being pregnant a few times... one doesn't want to drink all that soda it's not good for you or something you'd want to give a baby. So then I was in a big milk kick for a long time being pg and all; it has kinds stuck ever since.

well, I've only drunk diet soda for years, but I've cut way back, in part because of the cost and also because I've been drinking more water, with Crystal Light in it I get my caffeine, but I've cut way back on sodas

I don't drink it much. Used to drink diet Coke, but I found when I stopped that I didn't have as many cravings. And regular soda has too much sugar.

I do not drink as much pop as I used to. knowing how much sugar is in it drives me crazy. I don't drink when we go to McD's or some such place either....I usually order ice tea or a bottle of water. My kids would drink it constantly, if I didn't watch them and limit it.

We only drink sodas on special occasions. But on a regular basis, no we don't drink it. We know that it is not good for our health so we try to reduce consumption of it. In lieu of sodas, we drink coconut water or fruit juices instead. It is more nutritious than sodas.
