I mean, I know it's 'passwords and verification-codes etc,' but why do they offer college-major's in it? Isn't college basically 'to prove you can sit and study for a long time'?

hi mythociate. wow I did not know that offered that as a major in college now? I suppose this is more than just passwords as I have a hunch this is something to do with large companies that need someone computer literate and trained in cyber security to check their computer systems. mind you I am just' taking a wild guess but somehow it does make sense.oh yes college proves you can sit and study for long periods of time so imagine how hard it was for me when I decided at age 54 that I wou ld go back and take the junior and senior yearand get my BA in English. Sitting still at that age and studying was an interesting study in sticktoitiveness for sure. wow I was 56 when I got my degree and the youngsters all clapped when I was next in line to be handed my degree. I was surprised at how welcoming the kids 'were to the middle aged lady in their midst.lol

Sorry if this has nothing to do with the current discussion, but... Wow Hatley..you are inspiration! I am a fresh graduate, and like everyone else I find college boring sitting in long hours. But after I was able to graduate, the feeling was so good that I couldn't even understand how I made it through. Now that I read your post, I think I'm more than inspired to take another course and continue my studies further.

"Cyber-Security" would have to do with a variety of factors when it comes to the world and the net. It has to do with securing personal data, let it be for company data information, consumer personal information and or patient related information. In a day like today where all records and files are not really paper any longer Cyber security and or Hippaa as it is called in the medical field needs to be protected. There are a lot of factors involved and encryption is one of the major aspects. My assumptions that college majors are offered this because anyone dealing with personal and private information needs to learn to be discreet and know all the facets of private viewing and sending information. College for those that are not serious and determined to advance in a career it is about learning and advancing. For goofs that think going to college and it is all about fun and cramming the night before are the ones who translate that into sit and study for a long time. I earned my Masters in Business and Administration in Healthcare Field by studying and learning.

This is a better college major than: Humanities Ethnic Studies Conflict Resolution Womens Studies Peace Studies Gender Studies Individualized Designed Major With such a major you might become a very good hacker and earn a great living selling personal information.
