American workers keep making less & less.

I read an article today http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_thelookout/20110614/bs_yblog_thelookout/workers-share-of-national-income-plummets-to-record-low ( not a referal link ) about how American workers are getting paid less & less each year. Frankly I'm not suprised. When our goverment stoped taxing imports the American economy was doomed. We opened ourselves up to the world economy & they don't play by the same rules we do. Before then American companies actually MADE things & could compete with products made overseas because the taxes boosted the price of those products. Companies stayed here & so did the jobs plus the goverment made a profit from any that chose to import stuff. Now everything is outsoursed. The American worker is forced to compete with foreign workers who are paid far less. If you go to the store you see ( MADE IN CHINA ) or ( MADE IN MEXICO ) on everything. HOW CAN OUR ECONOMY DO ANY GOOD IF WE'RE SENDING ALL OUR MONEY OVERSEAS? Personally I think we need to put the import taxes back in so American products can compete again. What do you say?

You do know that the US is still the #1 manufacturer in the world, right?

OF WHAT? Go down to your local store & start checking labels. See how long it takes before you find a ( MADE IN THE USA )& see if you can still say that. Our COMPANIES produce but they're doing it in factories overseas.

It's just a simple fact uath. We are number 1 in manufacturing plain and simple. Our manufacturing has consistently increased each year. China's manufacturing is increasing much more quickly, but they are still well behind us. Our real problem is that we aren't exporting enough compared to our imports.

It's a matter of how you look at it. In 2009 the U.S. produced $2.15 trillion in products while China produced $1.48 trillion. Yes, that's less than half but compare factor in our size & population compared to theirs into the equasion & you can see the problem.

If it can comfort you, you are not alone, and Europe is suffering of the same problem today. Economically the situation is the same, and maybe worst for western Europe : we are integrating in the Euro zone today many countries from Eastern Europe where the salaries are still very low. There is no more customs with these countries and many companies are creating new jobs only in Central and Eastern Europe. It is good for them, but people living in old Europe like me are losing a part of their purchasing power each year, and it will stop only when the new countries in the Euro zone will have reached our level of life : at least 10 or 20 years...

It's going to get to the point where somebody's going to have to establish a GLOBAL currency , minimum wage & employment laws . Right now the people in control are playing one area against the other to line their pockets while the rest of us suffer. Oh well, we only have until October before we're all raptured anyways right???

I agree that a global currency is not enough, but I don't think that we will see tomorrow a global minimum wage...

Of course is seems that we have defaulted on some of our payments so we soon may have to learn Mandarin. Heaven help us all.

I agree. That's the one thing Trump said that I could totally agree with. I would much rather buy things made here, I think we'll get more quality that way. We also need to waive the taxes on repatriated money coming back here after we reduce taxes and regulations to make it easier for businesses to thrive.

Exactly, give a tax cut to the businesses & people that are HERE, tax the hell out of the ones that aren't.

I don't work in manufacturing. I work in food service. I continue to make more, kid of! I do it get raises. Every year until the last few years! I work in a college kitchen. We were affected by the bad economy. So now we are lucky if we get a raise every two years! When we do it is less then the cost of living has gone up! It sucks! Along the line I get more bills! I lost my part-time job! My full-time job is at the college! The most money I make the less I have! It really bites!
