5 Carpet Samples; Now I'm Even More Confused!

I've mentioned free carpet/wallpaper samples before and I'm afraid I'm a bit addicted in ordering them online so I guess it's a good thing that I'm not being charged! The other day I made the mistake of going on the Ryalux Carpets website (again). It's fabulous! My goal was to pick a carpet sample that would go with our new blinds that aren't even up yet (silver ones) and our chocolate brown, leather suite we've had about 5 years. So, I kinda narrowed down the colours to lighter blues and purples. John drove me up to the Royal Mail Depot to pick them up as the postman missed us yesterday. I opened the bag, looked at the square samples..and, well, I'm even more confused now about which colour goes with the brown. I know for a fact all colours will go with silver, which is the reasoning for picking those blinds..but BROWN? I've also got a bright red carpet sample that I adore and that seems to go with the leather suite as well. I placed them all side by side right up against the three-seater settee and I've rejected the dark purple and the darker blue..so now I have to choose between the red, a very light blue (nearly grey) and a tealy-coloured blue that I like because it's bright. It looks like I'll go down the metallic silver/light blue route in wallpaper too. I've got a silvery sample(!) that I really like but that's not for the feature walls. I need one to go with it and the other wallpapers in that range aren't as nice as the sample I've got, colour-wise. Are you now suitably confused? I know I am! http://www.wallpaperdirect.co.uk/ http://www.ryalux.com/Home

Oh Janey when it comes to samples to be able to pick certain items as you are doing. Don't give me too many choices because I take forever, as I tend to love too many at one time. lol I guess we know that we will be stuck with the option therefore, we want to make the right choices. I too would narrow them by matching them as you have but usually I get stuck with more then one I truly love, so by then I am going back and forth thinking one is better or wait the other one is. lol Good luck and hope you select the right one when the times comes to selecting the right one.

You sound like a Libran my friend! I'll be surprised if you're not! I know what you mean about having TOO MANY choices which is what has happened to me. At the moment I am looking at my ace coral-coloured top on the washing line (and it looks gorgeous with the sun shining on it) but realise such a colour would NOT go with my chocolate brown leather suite. Shame!!!

lol Janey you read me well. Yes, and what is worse, if we can call it worse, is that I am Libran and so is my boyfriend. lol His birthday is only 5 days after mine. Whoa, who makes the decisions here.

Sometime, more than one colour lets you be unable to decide which is good.I haven't much feeling for all kinds of colours, but I have known of warm tone such as red and yellow and cool colours( Take blue, green, purple as main colour). They have influence on people'mood.

orange, not quite red - I have lilies in a container. When they are done blooming I will move them.
I guess that is why I feel like the teal is better than a light blue. I think light blue is kind of frosty. I do have two shades of orange lilies blooming right now.

There are so many shades of colours too, aren't there, which makes a decision even harder. I do want it to be warm in here though, as we spend a lot of time in this room.

I like red very much and it is a warm and rich color and for that reason I think it would go well with the brown furniture. However the teal if it is rich and bright would probably be the one I would choose. I like the foresty feel I am imagining with it.

"Foresty" lol, I like it. Bring the outdoors in, I say. Nothing wrong with that as I love looking at my plants in the yard. My lilies will be out soon.

Hi Janey, I know what you mean. We have a chocolate brown leather suite and we had quite a job to find a carpet to go with it. A patterned carpet looked too fussy and old fashioned, but we found a light patterned carpet that was a dark creamy colour and it worked perfectly. Then we moved and had to leave the carpet. The carpet we have here though matches the suite perfectly. It is a cream carpet and really looks good when we had it cleaned. STrangely enough it doesn't show up the dirt too much as we expected it too. We have a carpet shampoo machine and used scotchgard and now just needs a vacuum clean, but will need another shampoo now after two years. We are still decorating, but only painting the walls in various off-white colours as anything goes with white. There was some wallpaper in some rooms, but I steamed it all over and the walls were good enough to just have paint on.. Much easier! Or perhaps I am a bit of a lazy decorator! _Derek

You should be on the "60 Minute Makeover" team, they do stuff like that all the time! Bet it looks gorgeous though, Derek.

hi janey red sounds good but I wou ld really really love the teal carpet with brown just sounds so pretty and sort of tranquil too. tranquil sounds good when one is stressed from every day hubbub of life. I think I would like red with black but not brown and I do not know why really. I once painted a bedroom with three deep green walls and one a soft red paint. they really looked so good and unfortunately we had to sell that house. Living in apartments is a real bu mmer

Hiya Hatley! D'you know something? You have mentioned there EXACTLY what I was thinking about the red. It really DOES go with black better than brown and I don't know why either! When we got the leather suite it was the only one that had a higher back with brilliant lumbar support, it's so well-made. We did sit on black, "cubed" versions but they weren't the same so the brown one is what we chose. Not regretted it but I do so wish it'd been black lol. You're also right about blue being a tranquil colour, along with the brown. Imagine the silver blinds and I can see all this coming together already! I'm sorry about the apartment situation. If John wins the Euromillions on Friday night I'll make sure you're on my list...only you must invite me over for a celebratory hug..that OK with you? Excellent!

I wish I could help you pick the right one, but Im not a fan of the color BROWN. Dont know why but I have nothing brown in my house. I have hardwood floors here and I love it. Would never go back to carpets. I used to have pale grey carpets in a previous house and I vowed to never do that again. It changes color and gets dirty really fast. So if you get a pale grey, make sure you dont walk on it with shoes. Oh sure its protected so it wont get dirty too fast, but eventually it will. I like red....Its a happy color. But whatever you choose, Im sure you'll be happy with it.

I'm not a big fan of brown either. The thing is, the leather suite was the best in the shop (and we did try a whole load of others) so it was bought. If I could spray it black I would lol.

That happens when I go to home depot. I did some remodeling and looking at doors...and counter tops! Well I wish there weren't so many choices! Even toilets. They had about 20 toilets to chose from! I was totally confused!

Oh I do sympathise. It's worse for Librans (Mum is a Gemini with Libran in there somewhere) and if you get her in front of a whole load of stuff in a shop it takes her ages to pick something. Fortunately, she's very good with colour though as she learned a lot at Art School before I came along in the 60s! The internet makes is too easy to look at all the different decor ideas that are out there. Unfortunately, it's not so easy actually CHOOSING something as it's a major decision and (wallpaper especially) is on for a long time, so getting that wrong is a no-no for me! I only hope I don't go for the "safe" option but that won't include beige, I know that for a fact!

I"m no good at that stuff unless I have all the pieces in front of my face and can see them all together.

Well, I thought I was like that with the samples but I'm more confused than ever although I have learned that some colours are way too dark for this room..so I'm getting there, albeit slowly!

Don't worry, you aren't addicted. You're just an avid collector :D When I was little I use to take the little squares they have that represent paint colors and make things out of them. So maybe we all go through random phases like that. To answer your question, nearly anything goes with brown, so you don't have to worry. I don't know about red carpet though, seems pretty out there. I'm not even a fan of carpet. I like wood or tile. Maybe you should try those, easier to clean too :D

I guess I like to keep the UK Carpet Manufacturers in work, softie that I am lol. Red is a bit out there, I agree. The shade I have, though, is very bright..like a pillar-box red, if you're familiar with that colour. I'm not a big fan of dark red as the brighter red would look really good with white furniture, for example. Or even clear glass. If I ever get that far! I do like that cornflower blue colour and I bet I'll order some greens next!! I used to get really cross with my brother if he moved my felt-tip pens about in my storage box they came in. On the front were the colours of the corresponding pens and he used to delight in mixing them all up..oh, and leave the tops off them so they'd dry up!
