I love checking on classic films. Some as as old or older than I am, some are from the 60s or the 70s. I often fing jewels, even in films that I have seen a long time ago. How many of you have seen Charlie Chapin´s movies? I mean the long ones. How many have seen the epic movies of all times, starting by "gone with the wind" but going through all the beautiful biblical movies of a great era? How many of you have cried with Casablanca? I am watching again mny of the oldies. Today I´ll see "The dirty dozen". It´s an action film and thriller of all times. Do you just see new releases or these movies mean something to you? Share!

I always watch old movies in one of the cable T.V. channels, I love "gone with the wind" but I also love movies like " how the west was won", " tarras bulba", the older version of " Helen of Troy", "Ben Hur", "Spartacus", anything Yul Brynner or Charlston Heston is great to me . I love comparing old and new versions and pretend I'm a movie critic

I saw all those movies when they were first released and those epic movies were great with the big screen. In my country there are some theaters that are always giving classic movies. There are still people enough interested in paying to see them.

I also remember when some SO innocent movies were banned from children in my country. We took our children a bit disguised and showing that we were their parents to some of them, when we thought they were important.

I remember when they first showed " how the west was won " I was still a small boy, they did not allow children my age in the movie house so my aunt talked our way in, it was the first time I saw technicolor. wow! American Indians and Cowboys, those days they even have double picture showing. Another movie I forgot to mention was " Beau Gest", great movie about the French foreign legion and that crazy Regimental Sargent Major or something

First of all , i want you to define "classic films".To my mind , "classic"means "good and meaningful ".And it seems that time has nothing to do with the quality of movies . "Forrest Gump ","The Shawshank "and "Inception"are all my list of classic movies. Even "Inception "is made last year ,i still regard it as classic for its plot and story .

You are right up to some point. I agree with you that some new films are as good as meaninful as some old ones. But as I have been a movie fan for decades, I have also seen that some movies that were good at a time, lose their magic with age. Those that used to be god, don´t make it to "classic" movies. Have you noticed that some movies that got all the Oscars at one time are never heard of again after a few years? Dustin Hoffman has starred in a lot of good films and so has Tom Hanks. But I don´t yet know which ones will make it to classic, as Gone with the wind did.

I just finished watching Solomon and Sheba - Yul Brynner and one of the most beautiful women of her times in the world - Gina Lollobrigida. (She still looks good!) I like watching movies by Cecil B DeMille, he's made some great like The Ten Commandments and The Greatest show on earth, as well as Cleopatra that you have mentioned. Incidentally, one of his earliest movies was 'The Squaw Man made in 1914. Among the modern magnum opus that have been released in the past few years, I think Troy and the Gladiator come close to Cecil B DeMille's creations. Like Cecil B DeMille in Hollywood, we had an actor, director and producer in India who classic Hindi movies and a whole generations image of History is based on his historical films. One of his best movies Sikandar (Alexander, the Greek Conqueror) was made long before I was born - a black and white movie that still moves a lot - the movie is based on Alexander and the stiff resistance that an Indian king Porus offered to his invasion.

Too many typos-why don't I ever learn to read and edit my comment before posting them? But, methinks that despite the errors, you get the picture? Oui?

Don´t worry about splling or even syntxis. Mylot is a site for people all around the world. English is not my native language and this keyboard I have should have been thrown away a long time ago. But about the great epic films by Cecil B. de Mille, we saw then so many incrdible films. I remember BenHur, one of the first ones. And I also remember Spartacuc, with Kirk Douglas. Unfortunatly I don´t have access to Hindi movies. My sister who travels a lot just brought me one but I have nt seen it yet.

I love old movies, even some of the silent movies. I adore Charlie Chaplin, Laurel and Hardy, The Marx Brothers, Abbott and Costello, all the old comedians. There is something about them that you do not find in most of the newer movies, most likely it's that you are forced to use your imagination a lot more often than wth the newer movies. It seems that, today, everything has to be instantaneous, immedate and bombard the viewers with action. It's funny, my husband complains about "today's youth" in that they need this immediate and intense stimulation in viewing movies and tv shows, while he won't watch the older, slower movies or gets bored with them and doesn't watch most of any movie. He is guilty of the very thing he complains about the younger generation. Idiot. If I had to choose between an older or newer movie, I'd choose the older one every time.

I think that some of Chaplin´s movies are so profound that they will never be outdated. There are many old films that can be seen by people who like action films and they will not find them slow.

well, lets say that they have to be pretty old to pre-date me these days. I have certainly enjoyed movies from before I was born, but I don't watch many movies these days because I don't watch much TV. I used to watch lots of old movies from the 30's, 40's and 50's when I was a child.

I love classic movies. I tend to prefer them over new (American) releases. Many of my favorite classic movies are films noir, including "The Maltese Falcon" and "Sunset Boulevard" (which I first saw with my boyfriend, so it holds a special place in my heart). Despite being a fan of classic movies (pre-1970s, and mostly pre-1960s), I've never seen any of Charlie Chaplin's work beyond maybe one short piece. I'm not quite certain how it happened, but that's how it has worked out.

Because of what I do I watch anywhere from 14 to 20 movies a week and I would say that over half of those are movies from long before I was born in the 70s. For me older movies have always been more impressive than modern movies, they had great storylines and even when they weren’t great storylines they were still the driving force rather than in modern movies when it’s all about big effects and star names. I’ve now got to the point that I look for old movies on TV, not just classics but ones I have never heard of from the 30s and 40s and rarely end up disappointed.

What kind of work do you do as to have that interesting job? I´d love to be a movie critic, for instance, and I bet I could do it fairly well because I´ve been a literary critic in my native tongue and there are similarities. Although I like some big effects once in a whikle, I think a good movie has to go way beynd that.

I love the old movies. A few years ago a friend and I used to go to a particular picture theatre in the city that used just show the old classics. Many were still in black and white. I recall seeing Casablanca, Gone with the Wind, A Streetcar Named Desire just to name a few. We used to go every Wednesday after work and I used to look forward to it a lot. I don’t remember any of the Charlie Chaplin films although my Dad and I used to watch those on Sundays when we lived in Italy and they used to be shown on television. Nothing like the golden oldies...

I've watched loads of older movies but to be honest i have been spoilt by modern special effects so i'd rather watch newer ones. I still love older musical movies though like summer holiday, grease, fame and flashdance. I thought the new fame was terrible!

I've seen a number of classic films, but I'm not terribly fond of them. I know I love the old sci-fi/horror movie Them! and lots of old comedies like Bringing Up Baby, Father Goose, and The Court Jester. I also love the old Biblical dramas The Ten Commandments and Ben-Hur. I'm not fond of Casablanca, in fact I might hate it just a little bit. lol

There aree films for all tastes, new and old. I never liked Titanic and it seemed at one time that I was the only one in the world who did not love the movie. I like Casablanca, but I do think love stories age worse than action movies or Biblical movies. There are some war movies I love, like The Bridge on the River Kwai. It´s a mayor film, worth seeing it. Check it at the web and you might be interested in seeing it.

Though I don't watch older movies on a regular basis, there are times that I do want to watch some of the older movies. I really must admit that I didn't care too much for them when I was younger but then when I was in college I had a professor that made movies a very important part of his class and because of that I really started to enjoy those movies. We watched some really interesting classic movies for his class.

Ther are lots of classic action films that could be in the thriller category. And about horror movies, check Hitckcock movies. They have that kind of psychological horror that is far more spell bounding.

I was taken to see that movie by my mother when I was a girl. Since then, I have taken my children and grandchildren to see it. Although I am not from the US, I feel it is a good way to understand the country. In the US, they should have it as part of school curricullum.
