Hello LOtters, Ever since I received that weird message and after i responded GET OUT, things went crazy on my PC. I don't know how long it is going to hold up before it crashes again but one thing is for sure, I might have to reformat my PC again and this is the fourth time in the last five years. Come to think of it, I am planning to buy a new Hard Drive for my setting up a new PC. I can't buy a new one exactly because it's too expensive, probably have to buy from parts to parts.I've been thinking of buying just the motherboard and Casing. but unfortunately I am still thinking about that.it may not be enough though, maybe I'll save more to get some parts. Some people told me in the past that reformatting could give serious damage to PC, either harddrives or motherboard I have no clue. I am sure it will give in some day..

Have you tried a program called advanced system care it has a option to scan the hard drive for errors and tries to fix them. Someone could of been in your computer and be messing it up. I don't know if that is possible but in today's world you never know. I know when i got my computer reformatted i found a whole bunch of old file they were labeled as .old files.

Hello Anderson, I don't know about that, i wouldn't want risking another kind of program that would cause problem for my pc crashed even more. i got some old files here that I haven't use it yet but probably I am reserving it so that I can install the sims 2 some day. thanks for response and have a nice day.

Hi there LK! If for 5 years and you have not replaced your HD, memory and motherboard, certainly they deteriorate. So, better yet upgrade or buy new one. At Gilmore, you can request them to set you up a CPU according to the specifications you need. Although, it is better to have a package deal than purchasing the CPU alone. However, when you buy the whole PC package, you can get a good desktop for P15,000.

Hello maean, I agree, this computer is very much old and I also needed to have some replacements. I have already check the specifications of the computers there and it sounds reasonable. but probably the best thing I need to do is save a lot of money to buy a new computer. though i thinki this one can still be useful but i wouldn't want to use this too much. have a nice day.

hi letran I have the same desktop pc I had when my son gave it to me when I was in myfiftiea and now am in my mid eighties. Now the motherboard, power su pply and most everything inside have been replaced several time. my computer now also has windows XP and I am thrilled,. myold windows 2000 was getting so obsolete it was hard to find parts for it. but truly my son is a computer expert and he did all the work installing all the parts and I venture to say mmy computer runs as well as a new costley one that I could not afford right now.I have a new casing and motherboard bout 2008 so its not that old even though I use my pc a lot and I mean a lot . lol hope you can do the same thing as if you know how to install the parts you save on labor costs.I even have a new hard drive and an external hard drive used for back up all my files.I am very fortunate to have a son who knows all about computer repair as he has saved me tons of money over the years. now my computer is as good as a lot of modern ones and it works so I am just very fortunate in all ways computerwise.

Hello Hatley, wow you're computer must have last long because of it. i have a windows xp before but for it was still vulnerable to viruses despite of it's capability to update new anti virus and malwares. from then on i decided to turn to linux which has been working for longer months now. have a nice day.

Five years is long enough for you to get your money's worth in your old PC. Not unless you're good at tinkering PCs all by yourself, I suggest you buy a new unit. If you buy a brand new unit, you're covered with warranty, I'm sure it's going to be faster and saves you a lot of headaches too.

Hello Ybong, This is why I should have known mylot back in 2006, with out knowing paypal i could have saved a lot of money and then buy a new pc later on. well, despite of the warranty I believe that it's going better if I have the new PC because its going to be more comfortable for me to at least use it with convenience. have a nice day.

Just one little thing to add. I have had similar crashes and had to reformat my hard drive several times. When you do a lot of online browsing or activity it is really only a matter of time before you get a serious problem requiring you to reinstall your operating system. But did you know, you can install a fresh copy of your operating system then install your drivers and software programs, even set up all your preferences and then save that image so you can copy it exactly like it is to a drive in the future if needed in only seconds. You can ghost an image of your hard drive to another spare drive (even a small drive, just big enough to hold the image) or even burn it onto a disc for copying later.

It's true constant reformatting can do damage, but that's only if you don't do it right. If you do it wrong it takes from memory and shrinks the hard drive. However, in fact it's actually recommended to reformatt your hard drive twice a year. Though the process is pain-staking long and annoying most wait years before doing it. I r recently (within the past month) actually reformatted mine. It's actually good for the system and cleans out files most software can't get to/creates that remains on your computer even if you think you've deleted all traceses of it. So yes, sounds to me like your pc may be replacing soon. In fact, it's cheeper then replacing it part by part.

Hello kaylachan, It's not me who's doing the reformatting but my brother would. I don't have the external dvd/cd rom drive because mine is actually too old and i've decided to remove my connection on my old DVD rom because it might also be causing some problems too. yes it does, probably sooner once i have gotten a bigger pay out. have a nice day.

Have you updated your anti-virus and spyware software? If you have you should run it in safe mode and run full scans on it. If that doesn't fix anything you should take it to a computer repair place and see if they can fix it because it's probably a virus or malware.

Hello ReviewMedia, I don't need to upload a anti-virus since am using a Linux type of Operating system. there's got to be some error or virus that got in here but it has not affected the whole systems. besides, the monitor is acting funny lately.have anice day.

Well, 4 times in 5 years is not a bad average of reformats, many computers need to be formated far more frequently because of uncaring users, and a few others are less because of overprotecting people. It's the very first time I heard of formatting could give damage to the PC. Let me say that it's FALSE. Formatting is a pure logical operation, which consist in overwriting the files on the hard disk with garbage so that they can't be no longer accessed, but doesn't has any secondary effect. In the worst case, you'll make a backup of your important files and forget something, and that data will be lost for good. But the hardware will be the same as before. Buying part by part seems a good option if you're short on money right now. Even though I guess that with correct caring your current PC can still survive a few more years, having it updated would be nice. Better start with the least important components like case, DVD drive, and maybe hard disk, and last buy memory, motherboard and CPU (which get quickly outdated, and the formers you can even use with your current one).

I guess I am not sure what happened. Is it just the harddisk? If it is the harddisk and the cd rom, those are relatively inexpensive to replace. Once you have replaced those you can easily re-install your Linux OS.

Hello LetranKnight25! It sounds like you have the same problem I did just a couple of weeks ago. I had to reset my computor to the orginal manufacturers date of creation and start from there. IT WORKED! I lost my stuff but I did not have much on it that I needed. I would try if you can, to copy your important stuff to a cd and then reset it. It does not hurt anything at all to do this just a pain. Now I can say that AVG is a wonderfull free program that can help prevent this, though it does give you problems if you have Norton. And remember to defrag you computor at least once a week, it keeps it going fast and from hiccups from happeneing. Good luck. Keep the computor if you can it is worth it. Even if you have to get a mother board it is worth it.
