I was absent from my lot since last 3 days and I went to attend a program of Radhakrishnaji Maharaj. Near about 7000 members are there last day when Maharaj was going everybody walking behind him for Darshan. A man takes my mobile on my hand and run I also run behind him and catch him. I started beating, pulling hair and telling why you take my mobile again beating and then leave it. But when he gone some womens came and told me ohhhhhh bhabhi why you leave him some Mangalsutru (Gold) is also lost. If you are there then you should also beat him or not.

Surekha: What you did -- namely beating him is correct. In fact you lost a cell phone a few months back and if this is also lost son-in-law will get angry. Are you watching cricket in TV. India needs 6 runs only two wickets on hand?

You have been lucky... or you are very strong : if I need a bodyguard someday, I know who I will ask. When I found a burglar at home, I have not been able to stop him when he decided to run on me. He was twice my weight : I want a small one that I can beat easily next time.

when going to such crowded places ,we should not wear costly things or jewellery becox we can not predict anything that might happen .It is needed a high security when such programmes go on and people who attend the programmes shoud be alert all the time ,its very nice that u ran after him and caught him.Feel sad that gold is lost and the thief ran off with that gold.

I don't know if I can beat that person if he stole something from me as it has not happened to me before. Maybe it was a sudden reaction from you. Lucky you manage to chase after him and got back your mobile. But you are one woman that nobody should ever mess with.

I am reassured : I thought a moment that all women in this discussion were superheroes when they are only talkative heroes.

I guess that it is a primal human response to beat a person who steal from us, it is very understandable. Yet, I think that you put yourself in danger doing this, since this kind of people are usually armed, I am happy that nothing bad happened to you. I think that the beatings will, maybe, help a lesson, and keep him from doing things like this in the future, but I am not so sure of people taking law into their hands, it can lead to really bad things.

If I was there, I would ask for help, to the men, to bind the thief, and then I called the police.

That is a difficult question to answer, especially since we never really know what we are going to do until we are actually faced with the situation and have to make a decision. It is dangerous to chase down a criminal, because you do not know whether or not they are armed, and you could get seriously injured rather than only lose some material things. On the other hand, adrenaline takes over, and sometimes we just react without thinking about the potential consequences of our actions.

I think she was rather alert..if somebody were to do that, I would be stunned first before starting the chase..and screaming. But out here, no thief operates independently. They have a group. The first one snatches, and passes it to the second one who may appear to be just a passer by, and from there the object changes two or three hands more. They share the spoils. We would end up chasing the first one. And when we find nothing on him, we would appear as fools.

I am too frail physically to beat a youngster. But I would definitely scold and may be resort to some abusive words.

Surekha you are lucky that you got your mobile back unlike me as mine was taken out from my shirt's pocket in a bus and i did not find my mobile back or the thief but that's for sure the instant behavior would have been like you if i had caught the thief red handed on spot. You did absolutely right as he should have got a lesson that ladies are not always the soft target they too can be heavy at times.

That was a dangerous move you took. Good that the man is unarmed. You were able to fight with him physically. If he was armed, what would have happened to you. You are a brave woman. If I was in your shoes, I could not do that. I am not as brave and strong as you.

I don't know what I would do on your place but I think after beating him you should call the police. IF you have let him go he will steal from someone else and go unpunished. I wish you all the best my friend.

That was quite a brave thing to do. If it was me, then, I would also beat that guy. Some people don't just give respect to the property of others. I salute your guts of beating that man! :)

I think that this is a natural reaction and I am almost sure that I would do this. However, it is also potentially dangerous as one can never know if the thief has a knife or some other sort of lethal weapon. There have been cases in the UK of people getting seriously injured or killed by tackling such a mugger. I think though that when something precious is stolen, the reaction would be automatic with me. As a Zen practitioner, I feel though that I should be able to just let it go and not be attached, but that's the way I am at present, and more than likely my journey will take me to total detachment. It is not easy, for what if somebody esle could be hurt because they cannot contact me on my moblie phone? These are not easy questions to answer, I guess. _Derek

Not only beat him, my friend. I just call the police to put him in jail. They are simple criminals and should be punish in what crimes they committed... If no one will trying to put that person in jail. I think he always doing such kind of snatching cellphone to other too...
27 Nov 11
I perhaps do the same thing when somebody stole from me especially on the street, but lucky you because the man didn't fought back and you got mobile phone back.

You did a great job on chasing him and beating him. I cannot do that at all even if I wanted to. My cell phone was snatched a couple of years ago, and I was totally frozen. I did not shout, I did not chased after him, I did not do anything at all. I guess I was too scared to do anything. You were very brave to do that. And it was totally the right thing, it was a good lesson for those thieves to think twice before snatching a cell phone.

sometime, if i met a thief that catched by mass, i paricipated to beat the thief. i think they appropriated to get that. they took which one is not belong to them. but i think, i will not beat the tief too much, after i beat once the, i will take the thief to the police office, i will not let the thief go away, they should responsible for what they have done. that is the justice, crime must be stopped, i just dont want, other people become theisr next victims. so if they have been jailed, i hope they will change. that is my way. cheers.

Oh yes, I won't mind pulling up his d....k or ears. I just don't like thieves or robbers. They get other people hard earned things or cash without pity.
