I'm basically unemployed...

As my friends know, I've been Maggiepie's helper for several years now, almost 5 actually. Well, Maggie is in the hospital, so I can't work, that means I'm not getting paid... However, my brother has given me some work to do to help him (and me) out so I'm not completely poor and I do still have my state retirement check to help. Still, I have things that I need to do for Maggie, because I'm her friend before I'm her helper, including checking on her lonely cat. I'm hoping that I can find something else I can do until I can pick up working for her again - or until I actually have to find a "real" job... I won't worry too much until after the new year tho, I've got plenty to do around the house before then!

I worry that if I get a job that I'll not really feel comfortable quitting to go back to work for Maggie... That's part of why I want to wait, to see if they are going to be able to get her out pretty quickly... if not... well, then its back to looking for jobs...

Ok. I understand. You can just give it sometimes, if by that time she won't be back, just consider looking for another job.

That's good news! I think I'll survive, even if I just have to hang around the house and not do too many trips in the car and not spend money... I think we'll make it.

I know a lot of people who clean houses for a side job, so you could look into that. They say it's pretty easy and usually just something they do on the weekends or a few times a month. But yes, worry about it in the New Year and enjoy the holidays now :)

Ah I see :) I understand completely as I'm not much of a housekeeper either. I actually think I'd be better at cleaning other people's houses then my own! I didn't know what type of work you were looking for so that's why I suggested it. Since you like to type, have you ever considered looking for work online? There are lots of companies that pay people to enter data or write.

I'm kind of wary about online stuff, there are so many scam sites out there...

I'm not much of a housekeeper... I think I'd be a lousy one for other people even. I'd rather find a job working at typing or something, that's more my speed... I say this in part because of my fibromyalgia, and my bad feet, makes any kind of prolonged standing painful.

Wait and see what they say about Maggie. Like you said, your brother is helping you, and you have your retirement check, so you can wait awhile to see what is going to happen. With any luck, she'll be home before the holidays and then you won't have to worry about it. I guess you won't be spending a lot for Christmas this year!

I've already hit my jewelry stash for gifts, so the only thing I spent was to make a birthstone charm bracelet for the roomie's mom and a little box for my brother's gift - that was a whole $1.00!

Well, about retiring, Texas has, or at least had, a formula where you take your age and add the number of years you have worked for the State (this being a State Government job) and if it adds up to 70, you can retire, not at the same rate you had when you were working, but about 3/4 of it - so I was making a little over $1500 a month and now net about $1200. And the new boss hates white people and men, and had made it her mission to get rid of me - well, she succeeded.

Oh, I worked 25 years for the state, bought a little time and retired early, because it was retire or kill my new boss... I've been retired for nearly 7 years now, and honestly, my health at the time of my retirement was not good, and the toxic office and the toxic people I worked with didn't help. I honestly don't know if I could work full time anymore - I'm tired after 5 hours a day part time, and I really don't work that hard most of those days. Used to be that I would put in over 7 hours on Wednesdays, between working and going to my mom's and then come home and do the cat boxes, and I was completely beat on those days. And Maggiepie has been very ill. She went into the hospital in early November for an infected cat bite. Then she had a fall in her home and spent a night on the floor before I got there. The following weekend she was again in the hospital for another infection, they discovered her heart rate was too slow and put in a pacemaker and then they sent her home really unprepared, she should've gone to a rehab hospital at that point, so she was back before the end of the week. Now she's spent 2 weeks in the hospital, most of that time in ICU with a tube down her throat. They finally went with a trachea tube so they could wake her up. They found air in her chest where it didn't belong and had to operate on that too. in other words, she's been very sick!

I am sorry to know that your cat got seriously ill.I don't know what it means that "it was retire or kill my new boss".Isn't the "kill my new boss"a sort of online game?As to retirement, according to relevant regulations the males are retired at the age of 60.

what do I like to do? sleep... but I can do data entry and office work - Maggiepie doesn't pay me, Girling actually employs me, I'm a home health aide and they get their money from the government, because the government has discovered that its cheaper to keep people in their own homes than warehousing them in nursing homes if possible, including paying for helpers and having doctors come to them!

I will survive, the roomie doesn't mind being more of the support for a while. I really hope that Maggie will be all right, I know she'd HATE it if they make her go into a nursing home, and her cat would HATE it here!

I do too, tho I expect she'll be in there until after the first of the year. The roomie doesn't think she'll be coming home, but I know she's determined... so we'll see.

That sucks! I hope Maggie Pie gets better soon and you can go back to helping her out again! At least you have some money coming in from else were and you can stay busy for now! If it was me I would be scared! Very scared! I would hate to look for a different job at my age and the way the economy is! It would be terrible!

I would be a lot more worried if I didn't have my retirement. I think by the first we'll have a better idea of when Maggie might get out. I don't really want another job, but at least I have some skills, that's more than the other roommate who hates her job, isn't really looking and wants to quit! go figure...

It's good that your brother is helping you out while you wait for your friend/boss to get out of the hospital. It might be tough there for a little while, but things will work out. I always look at it this way, as long as I have food on my table, clothes on my back, & a roof over my head then I'm doing good.

I'm good for the clothes and the roof... since I have the money for the property taxes and the insurance is paid for a year... have to get the car covered again after the first... and if push comes to shove, I can make do on beans and rice, at least for a while... the roomie actually buys most of the food, I get the cat food, but if I get it all the first of the month with my retirement check, I just need to worry about gas for the car...

yeah, the retirement check keeps the bills paid, but the other one is what buys gas and cat food... I'm sure I can drive less and use less gas, and get cat food all at the first of the month and eat more frugally, but it still will be tight without the extra... I hope she gets better too.

I'll work for my brother as long as he needs me, but if I have to commute there long, it will be expensive I'll do the job while he has work for me, and spend the rest of the time quietly crafting or doing other stuff in the sheds.

I hope she's going to be OK. I just talked to my Grandma today, and heard that my grandfather is in the hospital (no one calls to tell me things, I have to call them!!). Anyway, in the meantime, have fun earning on line. If you want some sure-fire ways to make money on line, send me a private message, and I'll message you back with some links that would get this response deleted, so I won't post them here. I made about $50 this month!

hi ElicBxn so Maggiepie is still in the hospital and that leaves you without work, thats tough I know. but I am glad your brother is'helping you out some. Of course as a friend you would have things to do for MaggiePie, poor lonely cat of hers. I also hope you can find something to fill in until Maggiepie's out of the hospital anyway.Jobs here are still pretty scarce.I am sure you will find something after January first.just trust your intuition.

Yeah... her cat's pretty lonely and bored, not that she's the most active cat in the world... but... Maggie's been moved to a rehab hospital on Friday, I need to get over and see her, got her a little fake (very fake) tree for her. I suspect that I can hit temp agencies after the first if I have to...

I thought mturk, frelancer, odesk, and even myLot offer some monies. On mturk there are jobs that pay better to people from English speaking countries. I have received monies from that site. So I can say it is a genuine one. On myLot, you could try earning from Sharon Buck's tasks. Even though the monies that trickle in may not be much, they would help. Right?

I have looked at those tasks and I just can't get into them... go figure... I'm going to spend the rest of the month crafting I think, since I've had so little time lately to do it. I'll worry about a "job" if it looks like Maggie won't be going home anytime soon....
