last night i read a book by John Wyndham, "the day of the triffids". As Asimov, i know he is one of the few science fiction writers to become hugely popular with people who never normally read science fiction. It is a book in which there are real people, and the science issues simply pushed the real people into dramatic circumstances.

That was a very good book. Have you seen the movie? It's an old movie made in the 60's, I think, and it scared me back then! Right now I'm reading Orson Scott Card's "Ender in Exile". I started the Ender series with "Ender's Game" and it was really, really good. Card is a good author and very versatile--I read his series Women of Genesis and they were very good, too.

Asimov was one of the first SF writers I was exposed to, way back in elementary school in the 60's. I loved his books although I haven't read them all. I read almost exclusively SF and fantasy all through elementary and high school and I'm just now renewing my interest in it. I also like Dean Koontz, Stephen King, John Sandford, James Patterson, Tess Gerritson...I will read nearly anything but romance books and thoroughly enjoy the experience.

hi dragon oddly I am about half way through a novel by Tess Gerritson called The Surgeon and wow it keeps me reading but I think perhaps its not a good one to read before sleeping as I had a night mare last night. lol. She is a great writer as are all the others you mentioned. I think only John Sandford I am not too familiar with all the others are also my favorite authors. even tho I am a woman I detest sappy romance books. Stephen kIng is one of my very favorites followed by Koonz and Patterson.

I just looked up this book on Wikipedia. I will read this book because I'm really interested in books that feature people with disabilities. I'm also, of late, interested in post apocalyptic fiction. This book seems right up my alley.

hi wmaths I need to read that as I saw the movie and it was okay but I bet the book is really better Asimov is one of my favorites authors as he makes science fiction readable with his own style of writing and the movie was fun but knowing how he writes I would love to read the book.

I read Day of the Triffids years ago. It was made into a movie by Hammer films in England. The movie was pretty decent fo the -60's. Wyndham also wrote the Midwich Cuckoos which was used as the basis for the Village of the Damned Movies.
