PayPal is causing headache again

Today I received this in email: Dear PayPal Customer, You have added Matthew xxxxxx as a new email address for your Paypal account. If you did not authorize this change, check with family members and others who may have access to your account first. If you still feel that an unauthorized person has changed your email, submit the form attached to your email in order to keep your original email and restore your Paypal account. NOTE: The form needs to be opened in a modern browser which has javascript enabled (ex: Internet Explorer 7, Firefox 3, Safari 3, Opera 9) Please understand that this is a security measure intended to help protect you and your account. We apologize for any inconvenience. If you choose to ignore our request, you leave us no choice but to temporary suspend your account. Sincerely, PayPal Account Review Department It is really strange, I never added Matthew as my new email address. Last month the money sent from mylot couldn’t be credited to my account; it went back to mylot, again reflected in my account. I know it is safe there. My account is still limited, though I have added purpose code and PAN CARD details, it says this is not valid PAN!!! What a headache? I have replied back, the correspondence is going on for last 3 months, it is really sad, I never expected this from PayPal. Advise me what to do? Is anyone else facing such harassment? Please respond and share your valued opinion. Thanks in advance. Professor ‘Bhuwan’. . Cheers have a lucky day ahead. 06/01/2012

Beware Bhuwan, that may not be a true PayPal security email. Go to your PayPal account and contact them. I use a key code on my account. PayPal mails the device to you and when you go to see your account you use the number generated at that time by it in addition to your email address and password. It adds another layer of protection and helps keep hackers out of your PayPal. You might see if PayPal will issue one for you in India. I have had false emails that say they are from PayPal security and they are not. Just beware please! Be very careful entering your information to PayPal because if it isn't exactly the same as required, PayPal rejects it and you have to start over again. Sorry you are having so many problems with it.

Profsaheb, could it be that your paypal account has been hacked by someone?I have not faced any problem from them upto now.If possible and if there are no funds in it then the best thing to do is to close the ac and open another one and when it is done then change and update your id with mylot.

At the point of receiving the email, the PayPal account has not been hacked. IF the Professor opens the attached form and does what the email says, his account will CERTAINLY be hacked! This is quite definitely a hoax mail. PayPal ALWAYS address their customers by NAME in communications like this. Anything else should be IGNORED and deleted immediately. If there is ANY doubt, log into PayPal by typing the proper URL into the address bar. If there are no similar messages in your message box at PayPal, you know that the email is a hoax.

Personally this sounds like some type of SCAM more than something of real concern. Are you still able to open your account in Paypal, and your money is there? I know Paypal is becoming quite a pain for a lot of people out there. Let's hope somehow this nonsense can stop as well.

Well, it certainly does sound like the security of your paypal account might have been limited. For that reason alone, I believe that I would start a new paypal account and see if that will work better for you. When you start a new paypal account, I would immediately verify it with a credit card or your checking account. Also, I would make sure that the password that you are using for your account is not something that could be easily figured out. Best of luck to you with this.

It sounds like a spam email and I would ignore it. I received one three months ago and I had called and sent paypal the email and paypal confirmed that it was spam. Pay pal would say Dear Mary Smith (or whatever your name is) not dear paypal customer. Send a copy of the email to paypal and let them check.

What i will advice you is that just find out the customer care phone number from their website and give them a call. Let them know about all the mishaps. Are you accessing the paypal from some public network or computer? Actually i also faced numerous problems with paypal but then i gave them a call and sorted out everything. They will surely help you out professor.

This sounds like a phishing scam to me. I've never had a problem with Paypal before.

Unless you get a letter from Paypal, using the name you gave them, that email is a spam. It is from someone who wanted tp get your password and info so they can steal your money. What you should do or should have done is to forward the email to Paypal using their spoof email addrsss. spoof@paypal.com. They would never use dear Paypal customer.

It is nothing but a hoax mail. Once I also received such mail, but my protection warned me when I opened the mail. I deleted that and opened my paypal a/c, verified my profile and every thing was perfect. So, I am suggesting you to follow the same procedure as I have done.

Why do you feel you are being harrased by Paypal. They are doing a very good job to keep your account secure. I've never had a problem with Paypal. And when I have gotten scam mail supposedly from paypal they were very good about taking care of it. I hope you get this straightened out. Change your password to a stronger one and all that.

I never have email from PayPal without my real name. Don't even open directly from your email, if it was not true from PayPal the link will inject some hijack to get your PayPal information from your computer.

Maybe someone is trying to access your account since you have a problem accessing your paypal account. This also is happening to my hubby's account, not the phishing or claiming somebody to be authorized, but what the pain in the neck is that every time he inputs a PAN card account is invalid, no matter how many times he tried to contact Paypal about it. I don't even know what to do about this since yours is Indian Paypal and mine is not. What I am really crazy is that they wanted to ask for a new PAN card, is that possible when all your life you were issued only one PANCARD.

Unless PayPal address you by NAME in emails like this, the email is NOT genuine! This is a phishing mail and you should NOT do what it says or reply to it. If you do, you will be sending your PayPal ID and password to a criminal. The attached form is NOT from PayPal and will open a page which LOOKS like an official PayPal page but will send the data somewhere else.

I heard about paypal issue for Indian customers, How could it happen ? You were never put Matthew name as your new email, or maybe it was hijacked. And now, do you can access your paypal account ?
