What will you when you see a purse with lots of money lying on the road?

India

Yesterday while I was walking to my home I saw a purse lying on the road side. When I go through the purse I saw about 700+ India rupee in it. When I go through it I saw a photo inside it. Might it will be the owners avatar. When I see the photo I could identify that it was my neighbors purse. So I want to my parents and I asked them to give this back. My parents gave it back to my neighbour and they was well thankful to me and to my parents. They appreciated me and gave me 200rs as reward. Should I need to buy that reward ? Is that reward a honest one ? It's their money and it's all my neighbor's should I buy it ? What will you do if you takes my role ?

Its true that you have really done a great job and i appreciate it. What should you do? if they have given it to you heartily, then you can take and its your wish what to do with that money. I would do the same like you... search for the address and if possible then return otherwise donate to my organization. Have a nice time.

I agree - you should do all you can to return it to the owner. If you can't, then you can either donate it or keep it.

If it's really your neighbor's purse and they give the money as reward to you then you just need to take it, save it or use it as you pleased. I am happy to hear you hand it back the purse to the owner. A good deed~ I will do the same like you but if I do not the owner I will just hand it to the police and let them handle it.(^^)

Hi Wonderboy, You did the right thing in returning it! If you didn't know who the owner was then the right thing would be to turn it in to the police because many people will check there to see if anyone turned in a lost item. As for the reward, I know how you feel. It does feel kind of wrong to get paid for being honest. I usually will refuse a reward for something like thata but they usually insist. The person is grateful and really wants to reward you so You should take it and say thankyou.

Yes. I would thank the person and accept it. I would never expect a reward for being honest and I usually don't get one other than I feel good about it. If one were offered though, I would probably try to refuse but it's happened before and most times they refuse so just say thank you and enjoy it.

Well, if i were on your shoes w ould have done the same too. As to the rewaard, well take it. It's a reward for your being honest. At least, the wallet was returned. It may not have much money, but i guess, the credit cards, ATMs and other IDs are what's most important.

I thank God , that i have never lost my purse even in my younger years. It would really be a big trouble because all my IDs , credit cards and reward cards are there. But as to money, i only put just enough money for my needs.

Hello thewonderboy, You proved it that honesty is still alive in the people. If i were in your place i also would have done the same thing but i feel i would not have taken the reward as its our duty and we should not take a reward for it. And what would you have done if there was no identity of the owner in the purse?.

Yes, this is something that has happened to me. There was lots of cash and some credit cards in a purse that I found. There was not identity in it at all, so I took it to the police station and turned it in there. They have the ability to find people through their credit card details, which is what they did. The next thing I know it that I had a letter from a lady thanking me greatly for turning in her purse and that it had contained wages that she had just got paid. I always try to think of how I would feel if I lost a lot of money and it was never returned. I would feel bad and have to struggle. This did happen to me when I left my wallet with all my wages in a dressing room when I worked at a musician. I went back the next day and it was gone - nobody knew where it had gone, and I struggled for several months... Some people will keep money if they find it.. But that was a long time ago, and I have learned to be very careful now! _Derek

Yes, I would do the same. If a reward is offered, then I would accept as it is polite to accept when someone offers and they may get offended if they are refused. _Derek

I think what you did is amazing because not everyone would have done it. I think that if the neighboor thought you should have the reward then you should take it. If I saw a purse on the streets and I was able to tell who it was from or if there was some sort of identification then I would return it. I think you played a good role in returning the money, you probably made your neighboors day a whole lot better after they lost their money.

I think so yeah, if the neighbor thinks you deserve it then take it. I don't like taking money, even if it's a reward from someone, because I feel weird but there are some people who want to rewards others for good and are very insistent on it. Take it and then turn around and do some good with it. Who knows after all the good that you did it may come back tenfold. Happy Mylotting!

I'd take it and keep it. Unless I am on real good grounds with my neighbor. I have been screwed over by people in the past before so in situations like this I won't be really honest.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and honesty. However, can you live with yourself knowing its your neighbor's money you used? You might have been screwed by others in the past but it does not mean you should do what those people did to you. Do unto those as you want them to do unto you.

Hey 02Alexander, My parents taught me many simple lessons in my childhood days and it is the one which was include in those lessons. So I just made it according to the lessons which I taught. What will you do if you have similar experience ? Will you take the purse or will you return it ?

Like yourself, I was raised by God fearing parents who taught us what is right from wrong. I would have done the same and return my neighbor's purse. Thou shall not steal....Its like stealing if you were to take what is not yours. I can not live with myself knowing that this family was counting on that money to by their food or pay their bills. I pray their are many people who think and feel as we do.

Hi wonderboy, Good that you have given back the purse. If you are not comfortable with the 200 rupees you got from them as their reward from you. Try to give it back to them. If they refuse to take it back and insisted you keep the money, then keep it. The purse might have important cards so they appreciated your good gesture.

First, I recommend you for what you deed. Infact, there are only few people who will find a purse with such money and give it to the owner. I think the 200rs reward that you were given, was genuine and honest. Something of sort also happened to me sometimes back, I was just walking along the street when suddenly, a man who seemed to be quite in hurry dropped some money just infront of me, I rushed towards him and give back his money. He did not reward me but he was very grateful. I think if you know the owner of the money, it is always good to him or her back.
@Mashnn (4501)

If i would take your role then certainly i will do the same as you did that is to return the purse, that is what i had been taught by my parents. As per the reward thing is concerned it is completely the wit and wish of the purse owner as i never asked or bargained for it.Its their wish and my reward for a good , noble deed which i did to them. So respecting their feelings i will accept it in a graticious manner.

If I was in your case I will also manage to return that found wallet to my neighbor, even if he/she is not my neighbor I will still have to return it, as long as some personal information or identification was provided in that wallet, It is for the sake of clear conscience and honesty! It's okay to accept good deed rewards that was given with willingness and voluntarily! But to prefer nothing to accept in return is more polite and gracious!

If there's information on who the owner is, I'd definitely would contact her and return the purse with money in it. I know how it feels to lose some belongings. If I'd be offered some gratuity for returning the purse, I think I'd turn it down. The problem however is if you don't know whom to return the purse to. I mean, what would you do with the purse and money?

Im very happy with your decision. Also because these people are your neighbours. Things could change if you dont know who the purse belongs to. Maybe if there isnt a name or card with a name in it. But if you find a purse with a name then always give it back to the owner of it. They will be thankfull and you will have a good feeling aswell. A reward is to be hold. Its their money and they choose either to give or keep it.
