I want to grow my hair long again

I really miss my long hair. I used to have hair down my back. It was beautiful, and I could wear it in so many ways. I listened to my daughter last year and cut it all off. She said I was too old to have long hair. I have a picture of me with medium long hair. My drivers license picture doesn’t look good with long hair, but it was the angle in which the picture was taken. It did make me look older. But I have also looked really okay in other photos. My mom always said a woman who was over 35 shouldn’t have long hair. I don’t think this is so. I feel that this is a sterotype that long hair makes older women look older. I’m really working to grow my hair out again. It should be long again in 2 years. Do you feel that older women must have short hair to look good? Or do you feel that it is an individual choice and some women can look good with long hair? Your thoughts?

I think what matters is finding what is more comfortable and stylish to you. I have seen some young people with short hair, looking so good and older people pretty good with long hair. Finding a style that fits you best is the most important thing, whether is short or long.

Good answer! Haaa! Yes, finding a style that fits the face and personality is important, I think. When it gets long enough I will get it cut into a bob again. I had a bob and it grew out really long down my back… I loved it. I really miss it.

I love bob but unfortunately, my head is small, so I would end up looking smaller. It is good to try many style until you find that suits your best.

women in south india they have long hair. This is the way they dress themselves. women who do not have long long hair --they feel bad. I think in usa conditions short crisp and well maintained hair is advisable.

There are others who really look good with their long hair. I have seen a lot of 35+ woman who are like that. And I think you look good having that medium long hair with you....similar with the photo. I couldn't imagine what your hair looks like now...maybe a boyish cut?? I think, just my thoughts, you look good having that long hair so you should definitely grow it out. ^^

Thank you. It's already starting to grow. Talk about boy cut! It was awful. I have a scar near my temple where there is a bald spot. When I got my hair cut into a pixie that hair dresser cut into that scar. I was mortified. It has grown out now to look more feminine.

i don't think so that older women must have short hair.coz long hair may look more charming.i like curl hair, coz i have a square face and the short hair not fit me which can make me looking like a man,i dont like it.so,i think wearing a long curl hair is attractive

First of all..you are beautiful! I think you should grow your hair out. If you wantnyournhair that way, then don't let others influence your choice. In some cases longer hair can make you look older but I think if you get it regularly trimmed and taken care of then it won't make you look older. Try it out and see if you like it! You can always cut it and it will always grow back.

Good for you, I'm glad you're doing what you really want. I think that long hair looks good when it's taken care of and well maintained. Long hair shouldn't just be for young people, it should be for anyone that wants to have long hair.

Hank you Courtknee. I think my hair will be about that long again by June. It will be close anyway. My daughter said again today that I'm too old for long hair. I'm sick if it and growing it out again.

I think having long or short hair depends on what really fits well on you. Some faces are made for very short hair while other not.It depends on what really fits well to your personality and lifestyling as well as your taste and it is not a matter of age.But i must admit, from the photo you uploaded ,that short hair looks great on you!I really like them.

:D actually i am discussing with my mom because she is lazy sometimes and she wants to cut her hair because a short one is more easy to keep.i like the way she looks with long hair, and i always tell her to keep it this way. longer hair makes her look younger. it doesn't matter what age you have.it matters if long hair fits you or not.i belive that the older you get you should have a good colour and perfect haircut.getting older doesn't mean you are good only to bake cookies and raise grandchildren. :)

I think we are about the same age.My hair now comes to my shoulders or a little beyond. MY mom always said that a woman over twenty five should either cut her hair or wear it up. It is much the same societal stereotype. My one grandmother kept her hair cut and permed. My other grandmother had long hair that was always up. My first husband's grandmother had hair so long that if you took it down, it hung almost to the floor from her wheel chair. I saw a gorgeous lady in the lobby of a store a few years back. She had long curly hair that she wore down. It was gray and she had a jeweled clip on one side. She had on a jewel toned "windsuit" as well. I told myself I wanted to be her when I was older. Bold, and beautiful.

Bold and Beautiful! That’s what I want to be. I hope to lose 60 pounds by my birthday in June and that is what I want to be with longer hair! Those women sound beautiful. I don’t know why I let anyone talk me into cutting my hair. I miss it so much!

ive always loved long hair. young or old. ive seldom cut mine. it takes so long for it to grow out. at least when its long you can pull it back or braid it or whatever and make it look different and youthfull. cant do that when its cut. i like your pic. you look good. arent you one of my FB friends? hugs, bon

We probably are friends on facebook.. If you recognize my picture, it is the same one on facebook. My hair does grow fairly fast, so that is a good thing. I also love doing French and Grecian braids on my hair. I miss that so much. When I grow long again, I want to learn other kinds of braids. There is a braid that uses 4 strands of hair… but I don’t know what it is called or how to do it.

Grow it loooooooooong! Women with long hair, yum. I've never understood the short-hair stereotype. Age is irrelevant to hair length, in my opinion. My lady's just turned 37 (shhhh, don't mention her age!) and she has long hair. It looks lovely.

Thanks Spike! I loved it long. I have a slight down curve to my hair when it is long. It’s not stick straight, and not curly… just curves easily around my hand without even doing anything to it.

Of course it's an option but we should not avoid those comments coming... Those comments may give us motivation to either cut it or beautify it as it is. It can also be a challenge for us to look our best. In your case, I've seen your pics and I find you adorable. I think whether short or long haired, we can make our aura blooming by adding positive outlook/attitude in life! Stay happy and blooming PointlessQ! Age doesn't matter, but our actions towards our age!

I don't think older women need short hair to look good. In fact, i was planning to keep my hair long when i am old next time. It just depends on the way you put your hair. I think older women with long, wavy hair look good and elegant. It just gives them a certain poise. Look at madonna, jennifer lopez, their wavy hair all makes them look elegant and sexy at the same time. I believe you can do it too! Just keep whatever hairstyles you like, not base on what people say. Its the confidence that make you shine. =) imagine you have long nice hair with confidence, what would ppl say? haha. and besides, you see yourself in the mirror everyday, u know what is best for yourself. =) you go girl!! haha

Thanks! I really want it long again. I am so upset still that I cut it. I am going to let it keep growing until June and then get it shaped into the bob cut that I want. I want a layered bob so that my face is framed well.

Hii PointlessQuestion. You look great with that medium long hair. But in my case, how long your hair is not a matter. You will always look fresh and younger when you can keep it healthy and know how to wear it. You may dye to get a new look :). And I think it is an individual choice, don't force yourself to be what others want (except your husband) if you don't feel comfortable with it.

Thankfully, I’m no longer married, so no husband will influence me either way. It is my family that says I should cut my hair all the time… and I don’t want to. I want to look the way I used to with long hair. I will probably color my hair again.

To me it should be absolutely one's personal choice. There is no such thumb rule which says that short hairs dont get you look old.To me i think that long hairs really look graceful on the older ones.. and if they have done their hairs with a good lock ahhh... it looks so nice..

According to me size of hair depends on individual's choice.I have seen teenagers with short hair, while middle aged and old people with long hair.So I think hair size should on the style that suits better.

hi pointlessquestions I let my best friend talk me into a haircut for my birthday and now my hair looks horrid as I do not look good in short hair so am letting it grow out. okay I am 85 and I had long beautiful white silver hair . I do not think long hair makes us look old or that all older people must wear short hair. yuck.I look awful as it makes me face look huge while long hair makes it look slimmer. everyone here liked my long hair but my best friend. lolyou can do so much more with long hair and wear it in different styles too. I want my long hair back again. lol I know I look better in long hair.

I started growing my hair out in my 50's. I had long hair for years and then I decided to get perms and have my hair shorter. It was nice, but I always had to do something with it in order for it to look nice. With my long hair I could tie it up, have a pony tail, braid it, pull it back, etc. I find the older I get the less I want to play around with my hair. I enjoy it long as I can pull it out of my face when it is windy out, etc. But with menopause my hair keeps falling out, so I am thinking of cutting it short again. If you feel you look good in long hair and you enjoy it, then go for it. After all it is your hair and it makes you feel good about yourself.

I hate being in the wind wirh short hair. Perms just break by hair off so I can't have them. My hair is fine but looks thicker than it is. I use a volumizer. I hope my hair is long enough to pull back by the summer. I'm in the process of losing 60 pounds (that's my goal for summer). I lost 13 pounds in the last week and a half. I want to make a total transformation.

I am seeing the discussion now after two months. I see you as a person with not so long hair. that will fit in well with the climatic conditions of your place and the way majority people keep their hair. Yes you are 60+_ and it is true the way we present ourselves is important on some occasion. good day.

I'm growing it out now... I can bring it back into a pony tail now.. a short one but it's getting there. I'll get it shaped into a bob in June... that should be enough time to have it the length that I want it.

hi dear PQ why not let your hair grow. I think its an individual choice. I have very fine and thin hair and got to wash it daily but I started to let it grow years ago. My mother forced me to have my hair cut short and I hated it though it was practical. Many people will think that this long hair does not look too good as its thin but I like my hair long and it stays long. My mother did everything to talk me out of letting it grow but I did so nevertheless. BTW my heart mom had beautiful long hair.....

Yes I know your heart mom did have beautiful hair. I have a picture of her in my album. She was a beautiful lady! That is how I feel too RitterSport. My hair is my business. I'm letting it grow. I plan on getting it shaped in June when it is much longer.

the only thing I still got to get used to is the fact that longer hair takes a little longer to gently blow dry so I need to put that into consideration when washing hair.
