a pinch of salt

I was reading a pinch of salt will heighten the flavor in ones coffee. Does it improve the flavor as it does in other foods? I would think most people would stick with something along the lines of sugar, milk, and flavored creamers. I'm not a fan too much of coffee but I do have a rare cappicino from the gas station ;0)

I've heard of putting a pinch of salt into the grounds in the coffee maker, but I don't know if it does anything ... I wouldn't want to taste salt in my coffee for sure. I love my coffee but I don't drink it every day. When I drink I usually drink a pot full of it and then I'm done for a few days. I drink decaf now because I don't like the heart palpitations I get from getting too much caffeine.

I suppose it should work, I put a pinch of salt in a lot of cake recipes to give it that little flavour, but it should depend on the person. I know people who put cinnamon/nutmeg/pepper in their coffee and they seem to like it. I suppose as long as you don't have high blood pressure it should be fine. I don't see myself trying it though, but who knows.

Never tried it myself, I do like cinnamon though, or chocolate, making a mokacoffee.

I couldn't imagine adding pepper to coffee. I can hardly stand it w/o tons of creamer, sugar, and milk.

I don't use salt in my coffee. I use cream, and maybe some sugar.

Hard to believe that salt can make a better coffee. This is my first time to hear that. I remember when I was little, my grandma would put a little salt to the watermelon. She said it would make the watermelon much more delicious and it was also healthier. I love China

I think people get enough salt in their diet, they don't need to add more. Besides if one buys a good ground, then they won't need to "flavor" it, it should already be good..:)

That is true too many of us have too much salt in our diet already from all the processed foods one consumes.

I am reading some thing like this for the first time but may be its true. But then it depends from person to person as we all have different tastes. I would definitely try it to see the difference.

hi 3SnuggleBunnies my husband used to say that but I noticed he did not put salt in his coffee and as I had high blood sugare I sure did not put it in mine. Let someone else taste that, yuck sounds horrid. I am a black coffee drinker,I do not want anything in my coffee but lately have been putting milk in it. the milk seems to help me to sleep better at night. I think I probably should not have coffee at dinner as I have a lot of sleepless nights lately. But I h ave learned to like the taste of milky coffee.

You may indeed need to decrease your coffee consumption or have your last coffee with your noon meal. I know I notice how caffine affects me if I have it too late in the day. SO I stick to caffine free soda if I want one. Otherwise I only have a pepsi if I'm scheduled late or in the morning when I was scheduled late or didn't sleep well but I won't have one later though then I will not sleep as well.

Can't imagine myself ever trying salt in my coffee. Besides, I add so much sugar and cream to dull down the flavor of the coffee, why would I add salt to enhance it?

I'm 62 years old & I've only ever had 3 cups of coffee in my life, so I'm probably not the one to answer your question as I really don't care for coffee!!! However, when has that ever stopped me from voicing my opinion??? I do believe a pinch of salt makes everything taste a bit better...a little more fresh so to speak. I have no reason to think coffee will be any different!!! I'd say try it & if you like it, continue on. If you don't care for it, you don't have to do it again!!! The thought of adding a pinch of sugar to my spaghetti sauce sounded gross. In reality, it did enhance the flavor!!! Another weird one is...adding a dash of crushed red peppers to a baked potato. The pepper flake on your tongue awakens the taste buds just before the potato flavor thereby giving you the ultimate in potato enhancement!! The best part if you do it properly is that you never know when the flake will awaken the taste bud!!!

Most people use salt to their coffee to neutralize the bitterness of the coffee though they like coffee in a way they like its stimulating effect and good aroma. Some uses salt when they put too much coffee in their cups which is already impossible to add more sugar to be sweetened as it induces the bitterness of the coffee. Like they accidentally put more than half of a tablespoon like you are about to make a coffee syrup, using salt is the only way to neutralize the unpleasant bitterness of the coffee.

It's exciting to try new things and don't just settle down for the usual. Put a little spice on one's life.:)
