Would you pay for someone to clean up your pc?

February 24, 2012 7:25am CST
I have seen an ad in my local newspaper titled 'pc servicing'. I thought what an idea, I'm not sure whether this guy has got a lot of work from this ad but its not something you see often so my question is would you pay someone to clean up your pc for example virus check and removal and even clean the inside of your computer! This was some of the things he was offering, it was quite a list. What are your thoughts? And no the 'Guy' isn't me, computers + me = Disaster! Thanks

Hey! Lol at the last part of the question, but I personally wouldn't pay someone to do anything if i can just as easily do it myself. One time, my mom hired a guy to get rid of some viruses on her computer for Windows xp, and the guy for $50 ended up reinstalling windows after wiping the drive. It seemed such a simple but harsh solution. Ever since then, I was always researching about how to do regular maintenance on computers to the point where I actually FIX computers myself, for my friends and family for free. So it depends on your desire to learn and how comfortable you are with doing the task yourself. You can always call up a family member or friend to help you with this, lol, only if you're not confident enough to get your desired results. Hope this helps! Enjoy the rest of your day!

I am good in repairing pc so I don't need anyone to fix any problem with my computer. There's a lot of trouble in pc when it is getting old it was a year being past this due to weak maintenance...or irresponsible used of pc

i am pretty familiar with computers and i have fixed one or 2 in the past, but only my own, replacing a screen on my laptop and replacing a new fan and heat sink, i also clean mine and do what needs to be done, i know it doesn't take much to run a virus scan and other things like that, some people charge a lot to people who know nothing about computers, but if someone asked me if i wanted my computer cleaning i would say no because i know how to do it myself, i woud also do my families computers for free, but if i could make money out of doing this to other peoples computers i would do it, but i wouldn't charge as much as the computer people charge

I won't pay someone just to clean my computer. I know how to install applications and antivirus softwares to get rid of viruses. I also know how to clean the hardware from dust. It's better that we have an idea of the basics of maintaining our computers to avoid spending much of our hard earned money for repair. Sometimes Mr. Technician will demand for a higher pay even the defects of the computer is only minor. If my crazy little mind doesn't want to function anymore and my hands can no longer afford to handle the vacuum cleaner then maybe I will consider hiring a technician.

I would say that this would depend on whether or not you know computers well or not. I have always cleaned my own machines. Regarding the software, I uninstall any unwanted programs that I may have installed and don't use any more. I will do a defrag and full virus scan. I then take the cover off my machine and clean the dust from the inside. I have the machine switched off first of course. I don't touch anything in there by use a can of compressed air to blow the dust away. It is surprising how much dust collects around the fans, and it can effect the machine. It is worth hiring a guy if you don't know how to do this though. _Derek

I would pay for it, and I have done in the past. When I was a little younger, I would pay for somebody to clean out my computer every year because the amount of school work that I ended up with on it was just silly and I was able to run my computer so much faster when all of that work had been cleared off it again. The person who I got to do it only used to charge me $10 a time as it would take him around ten minutes and he was a friend of the family, so it was very good value and I would certainly recommend it to anybody.

If its just dusting off the inside of your CPU, then I will ask my brother for that but pay him so that I can be of help to him at least. But in terms of removing virus and such, I leave that to my hubby since he is the expert when it comes to this. Although we haven't paid anyone else's service for our pc since hubby is constantly cleaning and keeping our computer.

Whether to pay someone to clean up the PC depends entirely on the fact as to whether or not the problem that the PC has can be resolved without the need of a technician. Sometimes the PC has got a simple problem that which can be solved without the need and help of a tech person, but then there are certain times when the problem that the PC has is of a serious nature, at such times the need of the hour is to have an individual, who knows about hardware and can solve the problem which is there with the PC, so that work can be carried out smoothly, without any further delay or interruption.

I'm not quite sure about what you meant by cleaning up your pc. Do you mean cleaning it up like cleaning all the dust off or do you mean cleaning up whats inside? I think generally pc servicing do both things but i think the main focus of cleaning up the pc is to clean up the content of your computer to remove all the viruses for it to run smoothly. I know quite a few things on how to maintain my pc although im not really that good like the professional IT's that you see around and i also have brothers who are good at it and they could fix almost anything when there is something wrong with a pc that is why i don'y have the trouble of going to any service centers just to have my pc fixed.

There are many guys who do this around here and I have no doubt they make a good money with it. Not everyone has technician friends or know people who would help. Like older people and mostly women who don't know much about computers and are afraid that they will do something wrong if they try to fix the problems themselves.

No, I would not. PC servicing would be good for old people that can't manage to do that stuff correctly and it's already a miracle they can turn a pc on. Or for people that just began to use a computer and have nobody else to rely on but they have money to spend. But in general, Considering we're living in 2012 and the future is based on technology, if you're young you should start learning how to manage that stuff because it's pretty much basic. Even if you're a "beginner" in the internet there are TONS of tutorials to do fix any computer problem and as many ways to clean your computer in different ways.

I personally know enough about computers that I would not pay someone to clean up my computer. If my computer crashed though I cannot fix it on my own and would have to take it to someone to have it fixed. This happened once before and for $150 the guy restored my computer and got all my information such as thousands of photos back that would have been impossible to replace.

I don't go to this kind of people. I DON'T TRUST THEM. I would do it for myself, and if I can't I usually call a friend well a technician friend. Lucky me :P

in my opinion, most of the people won't need this kind of service. however, there are people who won't be able to deal with viruses and stuff. these people are probably the clients of this guy.
