Wake Up

Like most of the world, I have good dreams and I have bad dreams. In a lot of the bad dreams I'm totally aware that I'm asleep. And in the dreams I'll tell myself to wake up. I'll yell at myself that I can end the "badness" if I just wake up. And it's like in my dream I'm willing myself to open my eyes and get back to the real world. Do you usually realize your bad dreams are indeed dreams? Are you able to wake yourself up from them when you realize it?

I usually realize that I'm dreaming right before I wake up, and most of these instances were nightmares. There's this thing called "Lucid Dreaming" and I'm really interested on looking up, and trying this thing. It's about controlling your dream.

I too have dreams every night, good, bad and meaningless ones most of the time.A few days back i had a bad dream in which i saw my best friend, who passed away last year, sitting beside me. I spoke to him and he turned to face me and then he got up and started to strangle my throat.I cried out in surprise and i could see the murderous look in his eyes. When he was alive he really loved me till the very end, thats why i could not understand why he was trying to kill me.I suddenly woke up and i could still feel his fingers around my throat and i was still choking.Rarely do i get a bad dream and most of them are garbled and confusing which i can`t remember on waking.even good dreams are rare which i can remember on waking.

If I remember dreams at all they are usually the weird kind. I will often find myself acting as the narrator, or stage manager, and I will be watching the dream, like it is more of a show. I will talk to myself about how it will be when I wake up from the dream.

Yes, I do get to know that I'm in a dream whenever I'm in a bad dream... But most of the time, those bad dreams become quite good where the demons that are after me gets defeated by me too. They may be vampires, zombies or ghosts or demons but all I had to do was find my weapon against them and fight them. I think what those dreams tell me is that, the monsters in my dreams are problems that can be solved by me if I just take the time to look for my "weapons" to bring them down. It's quite entertaining too really. Because my dreams tend to me tell stories that I've never heard of before. As a result, whenever I get up, I write them down to remind me of what lessons I've learned in those stories. Instead of waking up from those dreams...which is the same as escaping for me, I'd rather find the strength in me to find something that would lighten up those nightmares I had...unless if you're talking about SUDS, that's another story...

Hey you gorgeous thing, The really scary ones are when you think you've woken up, and can see and hear stuff around you, but you're still asleep! Sort of like Nightmare on Elm Street... Anyway, I guess I used to have dreams like you describe, but I don't any more. At least, nothing scary. Mostly stuff I need to do, or reminiscing about life circumstances - undercurrents about the way I actually feel about things and people and situations. Interesting, sometimes even enlightening, but definitely not scary. I do recall a few scary dreams in the distant past. Nominally, they were dreams, because I was sleeping at the time - maybe the sleeping state provides a point of entry to our psyche, or maybe it permits sense of a larger reality - but in truth, they weren't strictly dreams but encounters. Very scary - terrifying is a better word - because the danger appeared quite real. I did indeed seek to promptly exit from those situations. And once awake, I was petrified of drifting back to sleep. It's a fairly comfortable feeling to be in the company of Me, Myself & I, but quite a different sensation when there's someone else in the room.

Not usually, no. I usually wake up feeling like the dream was real and it takes me awhile to calm down. Some bad dreams stay with me for awhile too.

Sometimes I do and sometimes I am just dreaming. I hate the ones where I wake up but when I go back to sleep they pick up where they left off. Those are the worst. I have willed myself to wake up before. I used to have quite a bit more bad dreams than I do now.

I have had dreams of many sorts can be a bit too vivid for my comfort level. That does include any number of bad dreams, nightmares, whatever you may call it. There have been times where I have such a bad dream, of an absolute worse case scenario, that I could almost smell, taste, feel, hear, and touch each horrific element. The lines between fantasy and reality can be a blurred one for sure. And times it is too vivid, way too vivid. There have been times where I have woken up with a start and slowly closed both eyes, opening them every few seconds until I calmed down. Dreams of any sort could be paranoid delusions, memories of things past, or perhaps a hint of things to come, depending on what school you would believe. and if it is vivid, where you can experience all kinds of sensory sensations, it really is going to throw you for a loop. At least I'm able to wake up but no less freaked out than I might be.

Ya, i will do the same. If Bad dreams cameup i am trying to say my mind on that time it's a dream, and i will endup the dream by wakeup me. But some times i can't able to wakeup from the Bad dreams, but most of the time i wakeup before the dream comes to an end.

Hi Amber, I usually don’t remember my dreams. I can’t remember the last time I had a bad dream. I really don’t know I’m dreaming when I’m dreaming… what I mean is.. I don’t know I’ve dreamed UNTIL I wake up, then I remember it. I don’t usually experience the dream in real time. Mostly I don’t even recall any dream but sometimes I do. There have been times when I experienced my dreams like when I went flying with my dad in my dream… but I can’t remember the last time that I actually experienced dreaming. It might be due to the meds I’m on or something.

yes a lot of the time. if someones trying to kill me i just think to myself, "if i let them kill me i'll wake up".so i do and i wake up. when i was younger i remember having a dream that i was walking through town with my sister and i said to her "this isnt real, im just dreaming". i havnt actually come across anyone else who is able to wake themselves up though (apart from you). it doesnt seem to be a common thing.

No....I think I sleep through the whole thing whether it be good or bad...I know sometimes I wake up during a good dream and try to get back to sleep and back into it....but a bad dream usually plays out and I can only remember parts of it in the morning.

I only realized that I dreamed when I woke up. I don't know during the occurence of my dream that I dreamed. So that I can't wake myself up during my dream.

hi dear Ambie, sorry to hear bad dreams are pestering you. I have some bad dreams coping with my past obviously but when I wake up I realize it only was a horror dream if I remember the contents clearly at all and then I am twice as happy knowing that the past really is the past and things like in my dreams wont happen.....

Im not able to realize what sort of dream it is but just before waking up sometimes i know it's a dream but can't open my eyes for some reason. It feels kinda weird though I manage to open my eyes after a minute.
