airline cancellation...no assistance offered by the airlines...

I saw this post from a friend of mine that her friends are stuck in Coron because their flight was cancelled by the airlines. Based from the post, the low cost carrier only offered a packed lunch and a renumeration of PHP150 for their travel from the town to the airport. The next available flight out would be on Tuesday as advised to them by the airline personnel. And still no help or assistance from the low cost airline is assured. This is unacceptable!!! Have you been stuck in a place due to cancelled flight? Were you given some assistance by the airlines in rebooking your flight and your additional stay in that place?

Right now I am in Buenos Aires in Chile. We had a great flight here via Madrid. We are going on a bus over towards Chile and I am really looking forward to seeing my friend there. I remember having an airline cancel our tickets at the last minute. They did this because the travel firm went out of business. We then booked to fly to Vancouver. It just made us a fantastic trip so it worked out for the best. Another time at the last minute a hurricane stopped me going to Mexico so I booked a flight to the Maldives. Airlines are not very helpful sometimes.

It is way too common for those air travellers stuck in the airport due to flight cancellation getting no help from airline nowsaday. I am not too optimistic about this situation is going to change in near future; let alone improve for air travellers in general. Looking at the expansion of several folds in the air travel industry and the air traffic over the decade, one can hardly imagine assistance is coming the way, it is quite obvious this bad situation is going to become worse before it can get better, airlines around the world is going to tell you find a way to help your own self, it is not their responsibility to provide you personal attention once you are stranded in the airport, it is a very common opening line for most of the air travellers got stranded in the airport everytime they asked the airline counter clerk for assistance, not just those low cost airlines per se.

It is not that common if the cause of delay or cancellation was on the part of the airline. If it some other causes, then I have heard many times that the airlines doesn't offer even any help. But when the cancellation or disruption was caused by the airlines based from my experiences ever since I worked with the travel agency, the airlines generally accommodates the passengers by giving them food, accommodations and help them rebook their flight even if they have to book them to another airlines if they have to. This is the first time I have heard that an airline didn't do anything but offer them food for that time and their travel cost from the town to the airport...

Yes, it happened to me a couple of years ago at Reus airport in Spain. I had a flight scheduled for 7-30 PM and had already gone through customs when a delay was announced. Shortly afterwards they announced a second delay, which was followed by the flight being cancelled. I fail to see how they could claim a delay when the aircraft was apparently still in England. When I arrived back at the ticket desk I was offered a flight at 7-30 PM on the Saturday, which was a 2 day delay. Like all the other passengers I was offered no compensation whatsoever. In my case I was rather fortunate. I always take extra money when on holiday, so I caught a bus to Reus town and booked in a hotel for the 2 nights. It must have been a total nightmare for passengers who had spent up during their holiday. Imagine spending 2 days at the airport with no money or food, I consider this to be totally unacceptable.

I am lucky that each time when I travel by plane, the plane always takes off and lands on time. So I am happy that I don't have that kind of problem of airline cancellation. There was one time when I was at the airport, there were quite a few airline that were delayed due to the bad weather. But mine has no problem at all because mine was flying all the way to the south instead of flying to the north or northwest where it was foggy back to then.

Oh my!!! What a bummer!!! Let is out, is this Airphil??? Why was it cancelled??? Anyway, what happened to my friend was not really a cancellation. a booking was overlooked and they inquired who would be willing to delay their flight the following day. My friend's troop offered to delay the flight so that the foreigner tourists can swap with them instead. The airline gave them a very decent offer. They had them booked in a plush hotel for another day with free dinner and lunch for their whole stay plus service for the transportation from hotel to the airport. This is Cebu Pacific.

I won't mention the airline first. hahaha... What happened to your friend is somehow quite a standard procedure for airlines if they happened to overbook the flight.

I never encountered such situation before, but I had heard many complaints from other online member about the airline they been use just treat them irresponsible. If they cancel the flight, it is their responsibility to seek for another flight for their passengers instead of let them stuck in the airport at some strange place. They should do whatever they can to provide the necessary customer service to their valuable customers, or they will lose their business.

Well back in July when we took Amtrak from Seattle to Chicago our train ended up being like 8 hers late. So we had to loose one day car rental and night in a hotel and ended up paying almost as much for our hotel room for 2 nights as the booked 3 and paid, more for our car rental. Do you think Amtrak did much about it? Nope... only gave us a room at the Hilton. So I think sometimes due to the economy no one really wants to help out anyone anymore.

This is horrible. Imagine having to come up with extra money to pay for your extended stay at one place and it is not of your own choice. I haven't been stuck at one place where I had no options of getting back home. This year I am planning on traveling outside of our country and I hope that what happened to your friend never happens to me because I will be traveling alone. What was the reason given by the airline? It is summer after all here in our country and the most common reason that airlines cancel their flights is because of a storm. I do hope that your friend will be able to get another flight home as soon as possible.

I haven't experience this yet. But if this happens to me for sure I rant all the employees over the counter and I will make a scene that they will never ever forget. I will also make a documentation video on that scenario and upload it on youtube.

Sorry about your head aches and I pray that your weather gets back to what you are accustomed to. I have a friend who has a similar condition and I don’t think he knows about the mentholated oil. Thanks for the tip.
