It will be the 100th Anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic in a few weeks and my country, Canada, will be issuing 5 new stamps in honour of that date. Canada has a special connection because after the sinking, there was a ship (the Mackay Bennet)out of Halifax (Nova Scotia) that went out to retrieve bodies and several of the Titanic's ill-fated passengers are buried in one of three cemetaries, a Jewish one, a Catholic one and just a regular cemetary. Do you know if your country is doing anything? Here is a link to the article in the Vancouver Sun about the stamps: http://www.vancouversun.com/news/Titanic+anniversary+Canada+Post+issues+stamps+mark+1912+nautical+disaster/6329578/story.html

I didn't know that about Canada, that is very interesting. I am sure the country will commemorate it in some way. I know that they are re-releasing the movie in theaters very soon. Also I know Life Time books just put out a one of their big huge books that is all about he Titanic. The story fascinates me very much. I even wrote an article about what happened after the Titanic sank about some of the passengers and such. I wrote that a couple of years ago though. I wish I had known about Canada's contribution to the resolution.

if you are lucky enough to be part of a library system, there are quite a number of other books on the sinking. there is even a book about the Canadians on it.

I have not heard of anything special that the US is doing, but it is quite interesting that it is now 100 yrs. I know this is an important event that has stirred a lot of controversy over the yrs. way before the movie, but I think it is Cool Canada is doing stamps like this, and I am sure they will be considered good Collectors items for sure.

I really don't know....what I do know that it is one of my favorite subjects from the time I was little. My mom and dad had a book on the sinking of the Titanic...it was so interesting....love the movies too.....such a sadness that so many were lost!

I dont know why we dont honor it here in USA. but i will say its very sad and talked about somewhat. it could be because it was English ship right? since that movie was made with Dicapprio and Winslet, its more known about it. here. some here feel its their favorite movie.

i also watched a pbs special about the Titanic and they had one on the discovery channel too. my grandfather was on the Atlantic the night the ship sunk (there were about 100 various ships on the sea that night). he was a young teenager sailing with a British shipping company.

Do you mean to say they have been dating for over 4 years and he doesn’t feel a thing for her? How does such a relationship work? I agree, he will dump her one sweet day and as your friend you should warn her. She will come crying to you when she gets her heart broken by this guy who will obviously go for the woman whom he has real feelings for.

I don't know that I ever really thought about ships going back for the bodies. At least you know they didn't decay. Man, that must have been awful. There are a lot of specials that will be on TV because of the anniversary. And of course they are rereleasing Titanic in 3D for the occasion. I've never seen the movie and never want to. It's just a really sad event.

Hi cher, I grew up hearing stories about the Titanic and many people had a picture of the ship in their houses as well. I didn't know about the cemeteries in Halifax however, so I've learned something new today. Blessings.

That's pretty cool. I hadn't realized that it's been 100 years! Wow! I'm a Titanic fan because I was born on the anniversary of the day it hit the iceburg. I know probably more than most about that ship because of my birthday. (Abraham Lincoln was also shot on April 14th, just another disaster associated with that historic day.) Something else I hadn't thought of, though, is that probably most of the survivors of the Titanic were still alive when I was born. I would have loved to have met at least one person who was on that fateful voyage. Not that I'd want them to dredge up the horrible, terrifying memories of that day but just because they survived such an historic disaster.

WOW! It's been a century since it happened. I watched the movie when I was still 8 years old! It was a very historical event in the world.
