Bathroom Breaks

I've been trying to drink alot of water and the warm up we've had really encourages this. However since I only work part time I usually stick with my water consumption on the days I am home. I do this because I can't always just excuse myself from my job to use the bathroom. It was a madhouse this weekend I couldn't do anything w/o there being another customer and another and another for my 8hr shift. I was grateful to get my breaks on time let alone think I was going to be able to duck out for an unscheduled bathroom break. Does your job allow you to take a bathroom break at your liesure? Or do you just go on your breaks only? Though legally if you have to go and you can't wait they can't stop you.

I can't imagine working where you have to punch out to pee, or only take a certain amount of allotted bathroom breaks! That seems cruel. Lately I have been drinking a LOT of water meaning I have to pee generally once every hour or two hours, which is kind of a pain. I normally just wait until I have help here with me, I work in a retail store by myself 7a-3:30p, and I CAN pee when no one else is helping me here, but usually as soon as I get out I have 2 customers+ waiting for me in the lobby. So I try to wait until someone else is here. They don't enforce the number of bathroom breaks you take at my job though...That seems silly!

Exactly, they'd wonder what was going on if I went potty every hour or whatever. That's why I inhale water on my days off. I can't picture doing the pee-pee dance with an endless line of customers and no one to cover me as those who'd cover me were up on register as well.

I try to take bathroom breaks when I can because I know that keeping it in is never healthy.

We can ususally go when we want....so that's not a problem though like you we have customers and sometimes I try to go before I meet with one of them.....LOL..not good to excuse yourself during a meeting.

I work as a cashier and sometimes it's hard to get off the register, but I dont' go that often to the bathroom. I did go thrice yesterday though, and they can't stop us, just get annoyed, though they usually don't. I try to hold it if I can until I just can't anymore, but like I said I normally don't have to go.

As a slave (Housekeeper) I tend to take advantage of using the vacant room bathrooms if I have to go. However I try not to go so much as we are timed per room, and have to bust our butts off for nothing!

I only work a couple of hours at a time so it's not usually a problem. My job mainly involves family play sessions which normally last about 2 hours so I'll normally go before the session or after it's finished (ie. in between session and clean-up). If I'm desperate to go, though, as long as I let someone else know and there are other staff about, we don't really have any restrictions. I imagine it would be a bit of a pain in your situation.

I can go if I have to but prefer not to until my break. I am very part time and really am responsible only to myself. I have a lot of sympathy though for not being able to go.

yes, luckily my work or job is not that very strict when it comes to bathroom breaks. We do get to go to the bathroom anytime there is a need for us to do so. he he when i was working for a call center, we have to have our bathroom breaks timed and well we cannot go for more than a certain number of minutes per month. it really depends on the work or job that you have.

hi 3snugglebunnies! how have you been? been awhile since i last posted in one of the discussions you've started. anyway, on to your discussion, where i work, bathroom breaks are allowed as often as an employee needs to. the employee only needs to seek permission first from a supervisor and there is always a supervisor around to grant the permission. if there is a lot of contact volume from clients that's the only time wherein we ask employees to stagger their bathroom breaks to ensure that there is always someone to attend to our clients. otherwise, everyone can go ahead and answer nature's call when they need to. do continue to have a great time mylotting. cheers!!!

I am lucky to go at leisure but there was a time when I was tied to a certain place and would have to call for someone to replace me while I stepped away. I was more aware of the break times and things I could do then to minimize the time I had to go. I hated being limited to breaks and would really try to wait until then to go but if you have to...you have to and your right about the laws that protect you if you do.

I remember on my first call center job we're only allowed one 5 minute toilet break in the whole 8 hour shift. It was hard especially on times when I have my period and I need to go to the bathroom to change and it will take me more than 5 minutes to do that or I need to change my pads every 4 hours. Eventually after 6 months working on that company I got UTI almost every month due to not peeing on time when I need to. The last company that I worked with is lax when it comes to bathroom break. If you need to go, then go. But come back as soon as you're finished.

To go to the comfort room, in an office is an employee's benefits. Provided, that when he/she goes to one, it would not be for a long time and not very frequent. When at times, that you are busy entertaining clients and you feel like going to the CR, you can always excuse yourself for 5 minutes. They will understand.
