I was doing my freekibble clicks this morning and it had about the pets on the Tiianic that survived. only 3 small dogs out of around 12 or so. I was imagining if Coco had been there with me, I would be like the poor lady with the Great Dane. Because its been a long time since I could hide Coco. shes not only grown longer, but a lot fatter!! this dog is pretty heavy for a little Chihuahua/Papilion mix. I try to figure ways where people wont treat her or feed her things but shes insistant. Anyway, I just found this extremely interesting and dont know how many of you have read about it. So here. http://www.mnn.com/family/pets/blogs/remembering-the-dogs-of-the-titanic NOT A REFERRAL link. What about you? would you go down with your pet? btw, it says one cat removed her kittens to the dock and stayed before take off. I love that part about the cat knowing.

That was a really interesting, but sad, link. Just goes to show...when you get too old to listen to your mother, you should listen to your cat. With 11 of them, I just have to hope that they aren't all saying something different.

There were 13 dogs, of all different sizes and breeds on the Titanic. As you said, only 3 survived. There isn't much that has been written about the dogs that were on board. So, not sure if they were allowed to stay in the cabins with their owners, or if the larger breeds were kept somewhere else on the ship. If it had been a small breed, I'm sure I would have taken it with me onto the lifeboat. And from what I have read, the dogs, for the most part belonged to the first class passengers, so the odds were they were on a lifeboat.

didnt my link work? it tells whats known about them. yes, when i told my daughter about the dogs and how i would stay with coco she said if she had been there rich or what not. she would have stayed with them poor little children that was below and not put on the few life boats because they werent rich like the few that was put in boats. she gets mad every time she thinks of it.

the link did work, however, there is one mistake, in saying that no other museum has addressed the dogs on board. The reason I knew about the dogs on board is because of the exhibit in the Titanic Museum in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. I visited it in March, and there is where I first became aware of the dogs on board. The sister museum in Branson, Missouri has 2 dogs as living 'mascots' representing the dogs on board, you can see them on the website.

When you personalize history, it gets so very real. Sometimes very sad. I do not know if the cat knew that something bad would happen or if she just did not want to be around all those people.

I just saw a peice on Martha Stewart with a vet and she has a life preserver on her dog talking about swimming accidents and overheating in the summertime. I had never thought about life presevers for dogs. And I wasn't aware that not all dogs swam either. Bull dogs do not. Sad about the dogs on the Titanic. People don't think or prepare.

One of the cable stations has had some docs on the Titanic lately. I thought maybe you had been watching those.

This is new, i didn't know about dogs being on the Titanic. Me and Jeff ( hubby) was waiting for the Natgeo's episode on Titanic. We are interested with her and how she went down..anyways, i really didn't know there were dogs in there.. it is really sad... i am not really a dog lover but then if i am in that situation, i would not also leave my dog behind.. but dogs are pretty good swimmers so i think they really could swim but then given the temperature of the water at that time, i do not think they would also survive

yes they can swim pretty well better then humans but the water was quite impossible. so i would have stayed and drowned with my little doggy girl.

I live my little dog very much and would be devastated to lose her under any circumstances. I would have done my best to get her. I have always heard that cats have a sixth sense about things. That is amazing.

me to and i guess the really small ones were allowed to be carried by their owners. coco is a bit larger then most chihuahuas. shes part papilion and a little on the heavy side

The cold Would have killed them. I do think my life would be more Valuable then a cat and my cat would have a better chance of surving having four paws and. One lives.

well that may be true but if you seen the movie and studied it it was a pure shock anyone survived. although my son says lots of dogs have swam for people and saved them but you are right about one thing. it was deathly cold.

hi bu nnybon oh thats right she went down with her dog.if I had had my dog I would probably have had to do the same thing. A classmate of mine back some years in a writing class we took made his fame on his first nove about the titanic.W ish I had been that good a writerl lol. any way I had never thought about the pets aboard the Titanic so this is really interesting to me too. I wish I could afford a small dog as they are allowed here but you have topost a fifty or hundred dollar bond then pay extra rent which I cannot afford. my best friend Nelda dislikes pet dogs and cats which I find so unusual as she loves people and is so sweet and kind to everone but she is my friend and I still love her any way . I am a nut when it comes to dogs and cats. Y ou know I think Cats are very intelligent when it comes right down to it. that cat knew, smart kitty.

I visited the link that you mentioned and it was interesting to read about the dogs on Titanic. We don't usually hear much about that side of the story, and I didn't even know that there were any dogs on Titanic. If I had been there I wouldn't have been able to take my rescue my dog. We have a golden retriever, and it wouldn't have been possible to hide him, because he is much too big. I also liked the part about the cat a lot, it must have been a kind of premonition.

yes i was just so surprised this morn when i went to the free kibble site and they were talking about the dogs. i learn a lot at freekibble. i read all the trivia and such. anyway, like you, i had never thought about the pets on there. it only makes sense though as most rich people especially take their pets with them.
