Why single that one out? Why are MOST movies made? They are stupid, dumb, ridiculous, idiotic, useless entertainment! Back in the day, movies were fun, entertaining, made sense, had a point, had a message, were decent, heartfelt, emotional and honest. These days... they are so far out of reality..I really don't see how the actors make so much money for what little they do...after side effects, doubles, and technological alterations!

I don't think it was made to scare people. I think it's pure entertainment. With the Mayan prediction and others, people are more keen to knowing if the world will really end this year. This movie, I think, tells us to prepare the worst case scenario to save humanity, whatever it takes.

Are you asking why the movie, 2012 was made? It's because there's a big scare on it being the end of the world, anyways, so hollywood people wanted to make money of it... and of course it's a fictional film! So is every single movie that's not a documentary, and even loads of documentaries are loaded with fiction. And, the movie 2012, made hundreds of millions of dollars... and you're asking why it was made....

Of course it's fictional, it's a movie. Most movies are fictional. As for why it was made, well to make money. 2012 did make money, lots of it. Even though almost everyone who's seen it thinks it was a bad movie. Almost everyone. Lots of people tell stories about the end of the world as we know it, it's not new or exclusive to the whole Mayan calendar thing. A huge global disaster is a fascinating baseline for a story. The Mayan calendar is just a new excuse to have a movie take place in an ending world.

it's just a movie and people like these kinds of movies. Any rational person would know that it is fiction. It's not the first movie to be made like this nor the last, I'm sure. There have been other "end of the world" movies. I don't think that most people would get that scared.

It was not made to scare people but rather to sell blockbuster tickets and make millions out of peoples curiosity. Why would anyone in their right minds want to scare anybody? That's unreasonable. Anyways the movie is fictional and it does not represent any event in the past of future to come, truth is, it would be very interesting wathing the movie 2012 next year 2013, don't you think it would be?

i am also starting to suspect that movie was made to bug and scare people just like y2k virus,i think this kind of things keep on coming up in our lives,so we have to be alert and weed out them.i dont think 2012 phenomenon is about to happen,its just yet another work of fiction

Maybe this movie is fake,but it also reminds us a lot of things we may ignored before.Actually I think the world may be destroyed by us human beings someday if the awareness of protecting the planet keeps as weak as it is nowadays in the future.When I was seeing the movie,what I am considering more is how they would build a new home after a catastrophe like that,even though they survived.It's a hard process to recover what we have destroyed.In fact,sometimes it's not possible to do that at all.The movie scares people,but also with some other purposes.Fiction movies are so fascinating,because so many things are included.Let's cherish what we have!

Only fact remains Mayan calender ends at 2012, there is no proof that it's written in Mayan culture that the world will end in 2012. The movie is just a theory of the writer and director, the movie is also quiet boring ... 2012 did make it to the news so big that it made some good profit, the movie did make people worry about nothing ...

I don't believe the world will end in December either. Like you said I'm for science theories if they are proven. This 2012 movie is based on some Mayan predictions which is not validated by anybody. The movie was made just to cash in on the hype. And it is there for all to see. Look at movie's collections!!!!!

hehe.. i listed this as a movie u must watch before it expires 2013..ehhe after that this movie will not interest anyone nor..will be very suspenseful afterthat date.. ;) imagine if youre watching this movie in the year 2015..lol..u will go through the movie keep constanly saying.."nah this didnt take place..lol"

Well, they made it so they could earn a great amount of money...but the rumor about 2012 was from the Aztec calendar. I haven't watched the movie 'coz it really don't appeal to me. It's just like any other End-of-the-world to me.
