Today's Supreme Court ruling another blow to the Bush administration

Not the health care ruling, the Stolen Valor ruling. While republicans would say that the Obama administration has walked all over the constitution, the Bush administration is being beaten down by a conservative Supreme Court. I am sure that few heard today that the Stolen Valor law was found to be unconstitutional by the majority republican Supreme Court. While many right wingers feel that Bush was a great president, the Supreme Court has a different opinion of him. This is just one of many laws that the court has found unconstitutional from the administration, and these weren't even that bad. I do have to laugh at a law written by representatives who the vast majority of us don't trust, questioning the honesty of others. I am sure there were some representatives out there that were happy to hear that the constitution protects lying. At least that is one less crime we will be able to charge them with!!! http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/supreme-court-strikes-stolen-valor-lie-military-service/story?id=16669096#.T-ztRNkbJHI

I understand the ruling, we do still have the freedom to say such stupid things. I don't really see that this is "beating down" Bush. In my opinion, lying about your military service is reprehensible, but I do not see how the court could have ruled otherwise. I believe that we as a society should shun people that do this. We may not be able to have a law that says it is wrong, but hopefully we have values that say it is wrong.

Laglen, I agree that it is wrong to lie about military service. The question is: Did Bush even wonder if it was constitutional? My point is that Bush and the far right wingers over stepped their power so much that many of the laws they passed are being thrown out by a court that is about as far right as any in the history of this country.

Thanks to Justice Roberts, maybe they could be taxed for lying about their military service.

I think your conclusions are a bit wild and unsupported. The ruling was about whether the First Amendment protects your right to lie as part of free speech. So basically, although it is despicable to lie about military service and claim to have earned medals you never earned, technically it cannot be a crime (although that kind of lie on a job application or resume may get you fired and there's no protection for that). Your conclusion is that somehow the Supreme Court thinks Bush was a bad president. That's really way out there. This whole Bush obsession runs pretty deep, huh? I mean, no one on the left ever stops talking about Bush. I cannot imagine why you would laugh at the indignation of veterans who earned those medals and did their service when they see others lie about it. It's perhaps not possible to make it a crime, but it is reprehensible. Real veterans paid that price. Someone tried to make it right, the SCOTUS said you can't do that. I just don't see the funny bit here.

The men who wrote and passed this bill were Democrats, you know that right? You ask how many of them were indicted or went to jail - well, how many? You tell me. And why do you think the two Democrats who wrote and sponsored the bill were Bush operatives in Congress? You know that the bill passed the Senate unanimously, right? All the things you think are funny just aren't true. So, I fail to see any humor here at all. Just some people trying to make it a crime to pretend to be heroes when there are real heroes who are going unemployed and homeless and not being rewarded or celebrated.

Even though this bill was introduced by democrats, it isn't the first time they did. It was finally passed during the Bush administration, but did they even question if it was legal? Did they waste time voting on a bill that was unconstitutional just to score brownie points with it's base? That is what it looks like here.

I am not saying that the Supreme Court is saying his was a bad president, what I am saying is that they justified my accusation that Bush walked all over the constitution every chance he got. I find it funny how you right wingers want to get all constitutional on Obama, yet ignore the fact that Bush ignored it on almost a daily bases, and you all just supported him every chance you got. So next time you want to talk about the constitution, look at all of these laws that Bush and his right wing moral majority passed, and are now being over turned by the Supreme Court. I think it is funny that people that lie for a living, especially the men who wrote, and passed this law in 2006, (how many of them were indicted, had their employees go to jail, or went to jail themselves for some sort of lie?) would pass a law outlawing lying. Please show me where I said that it is funny that people lie about being hero's?

Color me confused. Since you love to blame the Bush administration for what is wrong with President Obama, then this is clearly a blow to the Obama administration as well. The bottom line is expect to pay more taxes and more to the insurance company. This one is a triple whammy household budget hit. Still the only President to run on a more taxes platform.

I think have responded to the wrong post. This is all of the laws that Bush and the right pushed through while he was president that are now being considered unconstitutional. This has NOTHING to do with health care. The funny part of this is actually people believe that you will get more competition in insurance because they now have competition, and that competition doesn't need to make a profit. So the private insurance companies will actually have to lower their prices, and give better customer service instead of just neglecting customers knowing they have no other option.

The real SAD truth in what happened today is that Obama and his socialist agenda won and America, her citizens and constitution lost.

Rodney, what did Obama have to do with a law that was passed in 2006 by Bush and republicans?

So let me get this straight... Just to be clear... You are saying that you think it's great that the Supreme Court is defending someones right to lying about being in the military? So they are defending lying.... And Bush was defending truth.... And you think this support of lying... makes Bush look bad? Do you realize how this post makes... *YOU* look to everyone on this forum? LOL!!!!! WOW!!!!! I wish EVERY leftist scum bag was this *honest* about how DISHONEST they all are! You are admiting that you yourself are 100% fully in support of lying, deceit, mendacious, corruption and falsehood. There is no possible way a leftist could ever have give Bush a better compliment than this! It's posts like this, this thread by thegreatdebator right here, that make me PROUD to have voted for George W Bush. In fact, if Bush were to run again, I'd likely vote for him a third time, just because it pisses off the scummy left like this poster. What better way to rub the nose of a leftist in his own filth, than to vote for the guy who stands up for truth over evil like this. Thanks scum. You made my whole day ^_^

Andy, do you actually have a high school education? I am NOT saying that this a good ruling, or bad. My point is that is ANOTHER Bush law that has been over turned by a CONSERVATIVE Supreme Court. It is you idiot right wingers who supported EVERY UNCONSTITUTIONAL law this IDIOT put out there, and you all did it in LOCK STEP!!!! Now, all of these laws are being shot down, and the only thing you idiots can do is say how great Bush was. How many republican representatives that voted yes on this bill were investigated, indicted, or went to jail since this vote? Would you like a list? Pardon me for shining light on the hypocrisy of your right wingers.

I would like a list. Again, as I have pointed out, the bill was written and introduced by Democrats in both the House and Senate. It wasn't a Republican bill or a right wing bill. It passed unanimously in the Senate. It was a bipartisan bill. You really need to stop reading the Daily Kos.

It is you idiot right wingers who supported EVERY UNCONSTITUTIONAL law this IDIOT put out there, and you all did it in LOCK STEP!!!! How do you feel about the 'penalty' that became a 'tax' when the Constitution so very clearly says that any revenue bill MUST originate IN THE HOUSE? How do you feel about that Left wing idiot in the White House that promised so much and delivered squat? Like NO TAXES on the middle class? LOL debater, go find help. I'm really beginning to worry about you.

LOL He lied debater, he told us it wasn't a tax and now it is a tax. (I knew you'd find a way to not talk about that...blame Bush!) "'The organizer's first job is to create the issues or problems,' and 'organizations must be based on many issues.' The organizer 'must first rub raw the resentments of the people of the community; fan the latent hostilities of many of the people to the point of overt expression. He must search out controversy and issues, rather than avoid them, for unless there is controversy people are not concerned enough to act. . . . An organizer must stir up dissatisfaction and discontent.'" "One acts decisively only in the conviction that all the angels are on one side and all the devils on the other."

Of course, all his assertions are incorrect. The bill was introduced in both the House and the Senate by Democrats.
